Guys, the track is fantastic! I think the tunnel is a brilliant addition. There is nothing like that humming sound of the 1/24 cars running on the hard Carrera track. I’ve got a large digital Carrera set up, as well as a digital Scalextric track and an older Ninco N digital track, and you just don’t get that sound from anything like Carrera. The ability to run 1/24 and 1/32 cars on Carrera give it such an edge. Keep up the awesome videos and really dig that you guys are club racing. Cheers from Michigan!

I made the opening clip!!!! YES!!! The Flying Chevelle was badass! Thanks again for the invite guys. It was work the 8 hour drive to come back home and race with the boys. The track layout was a blast to run on even though I came home with a baggie full of spoilers & mirrors. The tunnel was way cooler than I thought it was going to be at first. My favorite part is that there are some technical parts, but also some areas where you can run wide open. Any plans for another video with more of the footage we shot? Let me know when the next event is. My bags will be in the car a week ahead of time.

I think if you guys come together and build a layout that everyone is happy with, people's criticism shouldn't matter. I bought a small Scalextric set for my grandson for Christmas. I am just getting interested in this and I am considering building a larger layout. I've been looking at as many different videos as I can to gather as much information about layouts as possible. The more I look into the slot-car hobby, the more overwhelmed I become. It can be quite complex trying to decide where to start. It's quite exciting though. Great videos. Thank you for sharing.

It's always good to hear that someone is getting into the hobby. And yes, it can be overwhelming when you are first getting started. If you have questions, be sure to ask in the comment section of any of our videos, even if it's not related to that video. BTW, we have no complaints from the club members about the layouts, just the occasional YT viewer who tells what they don't like about our track, and we ignore them.

Very nice track, hope you have enough elbow room for marshalling. I have been experimenting with a 2-lane pit entry. Instead of having the 2nd entry selectable it alternates the lanes. Just move the sensor to after the switch instead of in-front. That may give time for the cars to square up also. It's good to see stock Carrera becoming popular with it's kinky bits and things you actually have to slow down for rather than the flat-out smooth wood tracks where you can't actually see the cars racing without time-lapse photography.

@johnniehobby2 жыл бұрын
We made the highway signs. They are 3d prints with stickers run through the inkjet for green background and text. We've made a lot of extras for this track -- many of the guardrails, the construction equipment shown in a couple of places, the fencing next to the tunnel at 9:25, the large JH logo in the middle of the track. Needless to say, my 3d printer is running a lot.

Awesome Track.. which runs best 124 or 132 for the new member to the slot car hobby.
@johnniehobby Жыл бұрын
We like both although we have many more 1/32 than 1/24. The 1/32 are much quicker and for the most part higher top speeds. You need to be real quick on the throttle and brakes. 1/24 run more realistic. More sluggish, drift much more in the turns, and top speeds not as high. They are more challenging on a track like ours, where you need to really nail your corners in order to keep up. If you fall behind it's harder to catch up. I can't say which I like better as they are very different driving experiences. I suppose it comes down to whether you prefer high speed and extreme handling where you need or lower speed, more realistic handling and don't require such a quick reaction time.

@johnniehobby2 жыл бұрын
We mention it in our series on Starting a Slot Car Club. Basically, we all run stock Carrera cars. Stock motor. Stock magnets. No removing interior to make the car lighter. No hardening of the front tires. No silicone tires. Urethane tires are okay because the Carrera tires don't last and they are darn near impossible to find stock replacements. As far as doing mods, we don't have a video on that because we don't modify the cars at all. Maybe someday we'll have a mod class.

When you race as a group, is there a caution function ? We are trying to figure out if we need to stop everyone on a crash or the others just keep going when someone crashes.
@johnniehobby Жыл бұрын
Stopping the race when there is a crash is referred to as a 'track call.' Because we have a couple of ill-disciplined drivers, we don't use track calls during normal club races, otherwise we'd be stopping the race just about every lap. Keeping the race going like that only works if you have dedicated marshals that aren't racing to re-slot the cars. Sometimes we'll use track calls if there are maybe 2, 3 or 4 of us and nobody to marshal and in those instances those driving are the more experienced racers that do a good job of staying on the track. The Carrera control unit (CU) does have a caution function that can be pressed when there's a crash and the safety car will come out (if so equipped). All drivers line up behind the safety car and when ready to run pushing the button again will cause the safety car to return to its pit and everybody returns to racing. Also, there is a way to add a track call button I believe where it will actually cut power to the track so all cars stop and then re-energized when the track call button is pushed again. These can even be placed in several areas around the track so any driver can activate it.

The track layout is available for download on our webpage here: subhumanracing.net/carrera-layouts/ The build file can be opened in Ultimate Racer 3.0 track planner. If you don't have that software, you can save the .jpg of the track plan as a reference, although you won't have details on the specific track pieces. If you need it, I can post a full inventory of the track components.

Just got my digital wireless dtm set, my question is, can I use my evolution track with this new digital track as filler track to extend running length? Thanks!
@johnniehobby Жыл бұрын
Yes. Regular pieces like standard two-lane straights and turns can be used on either analog or digital. The only part, I believe can't be used is the power supply/controller track from the analog set. Is your Evolution track the current 3-tab or older 4-tab?

@@johnniehobby i figured it out after looking at extension pack boxes, the new digital set had mentioned not mixing pieces so I was doing some checking first. Thanks for the response and I always enjoy the content!

Track is good enough to make me jealous for I probably don't have much more than 120 ft² in which to design a track layout currently. I don't plan on moving again, so unless I either get a pile of money dumped in my lap where I can pay other people to move everything for me (but then they would surely break only the items that possessed value, be it financial or sentimental), or I want to tackle the all of the issues with attempting to build a layout table in my garage that can be lowered, and then raised out of the way that my garage will still function as a typical garage (i.e. - accommodate vehicles for parking/storage). If I went that route, it should provide me with at least 300 ft² easily . . . . that is if a table can be designed, and constructed properly. I don't see anything wrong with bridges, in fact, I prefer a track with bridges than one having none at all. Also, the sublevel (Lower Wacker Dr) of the track is an element I definitely appreciate, and I believe it is a good thing that you kept the "invisible" portion of the track straight, and also placing that bank turn right after exiting the lower level, so as you had stated, there would be no immediate obstacle/feature that would require special driving to successfully traverse, giving the racers ample time to catch sight of their respective car. Somebody needs to make some tweeks to that track designer software though. If you plan on keeping those turns as is with the gap in between, perhaps you could fill said gap with black. Sure, all your club members, and other racers will know the gap is there, but it would just make it appear more aesthetically pleasing. Anyway, great job on the track, it looks like it should provide countless hours of high-speed enjoyment!!!

Funny that me and Slater often refer to that tunnel as Lower Wacker Drive.
