I feel exactly the same, if they released this first and then Christmas Truce my first listen for this song would have probably been a lot different. The song has definitely slowly but steadily grown on me.

I feel like Sabaton solos are getting more technical, like you were mentioning. Perhaps not the riffs, but the solos it feels like I'm definitely noticing a progression in Tommy and Chris's technical skills and writing talent. The solo for Great War's title track was one of my favorites of their entire catalog.
