I think customers should stick together, refuse to purchase at this price point, and force Sony to drop the price. Sony needs to be humbled.
@ChrisM-yq2pq6 күн бұрын
Sony sells same price points as other brands. You’d have to also do same for other brands. If anything Sony has better pricing than Nikon since they make their own sensor and camera. No one will do this anyways because it’s not about pricing. It’s being more advanced than other photographers. Photography is competitive. If you aren’t getting the shots then you aren’t being hired or paid. Price doesn’t matter if you keep getting jobs and getting paid.
@6gwilliams5 күн бұрын
@edwardcollins3560, after nearly four years of inflation, Sony gives you a much improved performing camera at the exact same price as in Jan. 2021, and you think that is unfair, LOL. If you dont need it, dont buy it at any price. This longtime pro and loads of other pros and hobbyists will buy it at the list price, use it and be happy. There wont be a price boycott, and Sony will be reducing the list price on new current A1, so that will be an excellent alternative choice ,as well as the countless used A1 that are already coming on the used market. Cheers and best to you.
@edwardcollins35605 күн бұрын
@6gwilliams Cheers and best to you, yet you are offended at my opinion. Be real next time, okay. It's over priced for the modicum of updates they provided. A few KZbinrs already compared the AF to the Canon and Canon prevailed. They can't justify the price and you can't either.
@edwardcollins35605 күн бұрын
@ChrisM-yq2pq are you high or mental? Their offering which stands in competition with the R5M2 is 2k more and the R5 M2 AF is better. They gave you a flippy screen and precapture with subpar video. Knock yourself out. Overpay.

I love my A1. I do - the two things that really have me tempted to upgrade: #1 Burst mode - often for street photography I'll be shooting at 5 fps - but then out of no where something amazing fills the frame and I wished I was at 30 fps. The new button could really help capture that movement. #2 Pre-capture - similar reasoning as prior -sometimes its hard to anticipate what someone nis going to do and its only after they do it that you notice. The better display and IBIS don't hurt to.

Both features you've just mentioned can be done via a software update for the A1...Sony hasn't surprised everyone much with the supposed hardware upgrades with the A1ii.
@HezuFoto7 күн бұрын
@@aetheraviationmediaBut we are still at Sony's mercy whether or not these would appear in potential future A1 firmware updates. And there might be some hardware limitations, although with burst mode that is just the lack of the new C5 button, but the viability of precapture may be limited by the smaller buffer size in A1.
@aetheraviationmedia7 күн бұрын
@@HezuFoto The C5 button is just an additional custom button which can be programmed to other custom buttons found on the A1. So yes, I agree that the custom FPS burst mode function is deployable on the A1. As for the Pre-Capture, I understand your concerns of the small buffer size of the A1 being the limiting factor for this feature's deployment. If we look into this closer, this issue can be resolved by either limiting the duration of Pre-Capture or the output recorded RAW size for Pre-Capture to be enabled on the A1. Another method is to create a small partition on the CF Express Type A card to act as random read and write memory, as to RAM on a computer, for temporarily recording 1 second Pre-Capture RAW files in a loop. With the combination of both strategies and optimising the parameters, Sony definitely can achieve Pre-Capture, even at the medium level for the A1.

Global shutter is a literal game changer from the A9III. Other than that, these high end bodies are just gonna keep getting more expensive but less practical. There’s very little here that a working photographer can’t get from the A7IV for A7RV.
@kingghidorah81069 күн бұрын
global shutter is easily achievable by using a ccd sensor. Also, CCD have 16 bit jpegs and 20 bit raw files, better color and overall don't wear out like CMOS sensors. Much like the "safety coverings" new car engines have so that you can't access them to repair, the change to CMOS is just a way to accelerate a camera's ageing.

As an A1 owner, I am disgusted with every release since the 50 1.2 GM. They refuse to provide firmware support for the A1, while providing cutting edge firmware to the a7C (animal/bird eye AF in Video 12/21) They waited 2.5 years to provide us with focus breathing comp, and we still don't have focus bracketing or focus stacking in body. a7IV still has superior 4K30 over the a1ii, with oversampled 7K at 4K30 while the Z8 has 8.3K oversampled at 4K30. No Gen 4 CF-Express Type A support, and the C5 button does nothing, because I already have a button assigned to go into full AF-C burst instantly on the A1, and the A1ii offers no extra burst over the A1. Nikon never announced Pre-Capture with the debut of the Z9, yet they provided firmware support later on and added this cutting edge feature. The A1 has the hardware to do 0.5s Pre-Capture JPEG, but Sony wanted to troll all of us A1 owners buy withholding firmware to keep pace with Nikon. Plus the grip of the a9iii is too big, whereas the a1 grip is perfect. If I wanted a fat grip, I would purchase Canon or Nikon. Everything Sony has done since the 50 1.2 GM release has been going the wrong direction. As someone with $16,000 invested, and as a Sony Pro Member, I am ready to get rid of everything the moment the Z8ii drops.

In my view, the bottom line is this. If you already have an A1, there isn’t really a need to upgrade unless you need things like pre-capture/ the tilted screen/ AI chip. I can't believe that 4K recording is still subsampled or line skipped and not 8K oversampled like in the Nikon Z8 (8.3K oversampled 4K60p) or in the R5 (4K Fine oversampled from 8K up to 30p). The only oversampled 4K mode in the a1 II is the cropped APS-C mode. A flagship should be able to record full-width 8K oversampled 4K60p or at the very least 30p!

Really the only worthy upgrades that matter most in this new camera are the pre capture and subject detection in video mode. The biggest of those is the pre capture. As we all know the a7 prosumer line tends to get those new pro features I n their next release so I'm waiting to see what the new a7V gets loaded with. If it gets pre capture it will set the world on fire and I'll buy it. But I just can't justify buying the a1ii knowing there's gonna be a soon coming global sensor war between Sony and Nikon. Nikon IMHO will begin the global sensor war and Sony will answer in the next a1 release and that's what I'm waiting to spend my money on.

The average house in South Africa costs R1,400,000, while the camera costs around R120,000. In other words it costs about a tenth of what an average house costs. EVF still drops rez while focusing(according to Gordon). NO top plate LCD. LCD still super low rez from 2020. NO Zebra or False color for video. Still using super slow/expensive Type A cf card(no gen4 support). Menu system still convoluted to navigate. Body ergonomics still meant for guys with super “tiny” hands. Rebadged 2020 sensor. Still the same limited AF area coverage and AF points vs R5ii. NO eye AF. A1ii overheats sooner than R5ii. NO cooling grip option. Over $2400 vs R5ii but only matching 85% of R5ii’s capabilities. Canon AF is still Sony’s benchmark.

only negative to Nikon's Z line up is they lack the customization of Sony cameras. I'm looking to switch from Medium Format to Full Frame at the moment and have been testing all of the Flagships out against one another. My 0.2c if Nikon wants a higher customer conversion rate, they have to give up on the "shoot DSLR" style they are forcing to gain users who have been shooting mirrorless for over a decade w/ the competition. Also if you like clickable apertures, Sony/Canon are the only way to go as the Function feature on Z lenses is really a joke IMO, the throw is so short it's not realistic to use in fast paced situations. Otherwise I think the Z system is top notch, just lacks in terms of shooting experience and options on how to configure the camera [ even if it's Nikon most configurable camera to date].

So long as Sony users keep shelling out the 7k, Z8 or other competition won't drive Sony's price down. And the truth is, if you're invested in a system the way someone is that owns an A1 you aren't going to jump ship and learn a whole new system that only delivers the same feature as your current [w/ exception of shooting RAW w/o Crop on z8 of course]. Most users getting A1ii IMO are likely selling off their A1 and using that to fund the difference. They are likely pros who are constantly saving some $ over the years in case their camera fails or they feel the need to upgrade. So they are prepared financially and have a camera that sells for thousands on used market to make up the difference.
