As an early alpha release, this does take me back to the early days of SE1, but seemingly with more potential. I'd argue it is more functional than SE1 at first release, which also did not have functioning doors or weapons, I might add. Didn't even have a working conveyor system. So, in short, with the state SE2 is in right now, I believe we are seeing the beginnings of something truly magnificent. We just need to wait for it to blossom.

Okay people. I performed several tests on the heavy armor cubes, both in 2.5 sizes and in 0.5 sizes. And the results are as follows; to destroy a single 2.5 heavy cube with the dev gun, it can withstand 46 hits. The 0.5 cube can only withstand 2 hits from the dev gun. However, building a 2.5 cube with 0.5 cubes (125 cubes in all) will require 250 hits to completely destroy the 2.5 cube of 0.5 cubes. Simply put, armoring a capital ship out of 0.5 cubes could protect the ship from splash damage as the enemy would have to slowly chip away at the many meters of heavy armor. But it won’t stop piercing weapons like a gatling or a railgun. Although we won’t know for certain until Keen adds more weapons to the roster. In other words, big armor cubes for the core structure, small armor cubes for the exterior.

A lot of people are mad at the fact that it's not fully completed, you have to understand the time and effort it takes to make a game, the main reason they're probably launching it early is due to funding. If they can't pay their developers that are working on the game, then there won't be a game anyway. That's why they release DLC's, as they need to pay wages and bills. It may look bad from the perspective of the consumer, but they really have no choice. If they want to continue working on the game, and make a living while doing so, they have to release DLC's or in this case for SE2's development, an early access. I can 100% say that they probably didn't want to release an early access due to the amount of cool things they have shown when they were working on VRage3, like the water physics and stuff, but they didn't release them as they know that if they released them unfinished, people would complain. Like others are saying, buy it when YOU think it's ready. No one is forcing you to buy it. And price-wise, I still think that SE2 is still much more valuable than other space games. For me personally, I always disliked the difference of large-grids and small-grids, and I was so glad to see that it is all one grid in SE2. But, I won't be buying it right now until they add survival and multiplayer. No need to hate on the devs, they're just doing what they can to keep development running and to keep a roof under their heads.

The only feature i care about atm is the key rebinding, because of my country defaults keyboard layout it makes it Incredibly difficuilt to play to the point that its not worth it, so frustrating can't wait to play it :D

All i need to know is whether we will be able to click and drag build in survival, I don't see it as a hard thing to implement. It's most likely more about, "should a survival player be able to build this way." For the longest I've liked every part of the space engineers grind expect for knowing how much you want to place but only being able to place block by block while creative had this feature the whole time. It's painstakingly annoying especially for large bases. If this does because a feature it should go something like this: Naturally the total blocks you place down would take the necessary amount of resources from the players inventory(this also goes for the blueprint building, though it should require some system to be able to use blueprints) and once you go past the amount your recourses could build then the preview simply turns red to show you don't have enough resources. If this does become a thing i hope they don't go the route of just not building some of the things you drag build if you run out of recourses. That could heavily mess up measurements if someone doesn't notice. I also want to know if one of the goals with this game is to be more optimized than the previous, even though the SE 1 is insanely well optimized, so much so my extremely old PC had zero issues running it, some larger creative creations could get laggy. PS: I could be sounding stupid if you already mentioned one of these things in the video, sry if you did.

I supported SE1 since alpha as well, while now we may not be able to do much I am very excited to see what the future holds and how the modding community does with this game.

With all the handheld buzz im a little surprised at the lack of basic controller support. They mentioned Steamdeck support on the shelf for later. What i hope doesnt happen is that the controller support feels tacked on top and janky because it wasnt a priority early enough. Also i wish people understood that Joystick Gremlin and Joy 2 Key are NOT real solutions. Flight controls that were binary button presses before are still treated as binary button presses when on the joystick axis. this solves nothing. For me this was the one feature i wanted and IMO if its not added soon then they aren't going to add HOTAS support at all. It will just be the minimum viable implementation for a console/handheld release to avoid breaking things. just like last time.

I haven't had time to play that much, but I think the blue ship and the red ship are so much more detailed. of course I crash them against each other, so awesome. I long for rotor end piston so we can make, small ship gone wild :)

I really like the new skybox/background for space. Sure it's still grey, but it has a lot of neat details. One thing that I hope will be coming in the future is greater engineer customization / space suit customization. I love the shape of the suit as shown in SE2, but I'd like to have the ability to have a darker visor to block out the engineer inside. Nothing wrong with the model, it's just personal preference. As well, a wider variety of suit cosmetics for SE1 would be a welcome addition. With the new unified building system, I'm curious how they'll handle "large grid" and "small grid" weapon sizes all on the same grid. With the idea that subgrids could return, I'd like to see how player-made turrets will turn out if they do the large 2.5m and small .5m weapon sizes. Although a .25m weapon system would be comical, I'd like to think you could really get away with adding crazy levels of detail for such a turret. Like a planetary defense turret re-imagined with it's own PD turrets or even smaller player-made missiles!

I have over 700 hours in SE1, mostly played around 2015. I want a game that has a fun survival mode, performs well (seeing a PCU cap does not spark joy) and does not feel like it's milking the player for cash (15 DLCs?!?). I'll give SE2 a lot more time to mature, because it has a _big_ roadmap ahead of it and I highly doubt that development will play out exactly as planned.

I am so hyped for SE2, but I'll wait. I have a philosophy regarding EA games. Its simple, they should be priced at an amount that reflects the amount of features they provide at the moment, not promises of features that would come in the future IF the development is on track. Right now, the game is priced at 30$ US, only for barebone content. We should not treat players as investments to keep the project going. Investors should take the risk, not players. One could reflect on KSP2 and how they treated EA as an investment opportunity to get the project going. Obviously the KSP team has been done dirty by their publisher, but my point is that nobody is immune to unexpected events. With that in mind, if you really want to support Keen Software for SE2, then you can do it! Just my opinion.
@atlas75088 күн бұрын
The issue with charging less than the $30 that they value the full game at is that they'd have to raise the price at 1.0 launch, leaving those that didn't buy in early angry because they have to pay more than those that did. Say they charged $10 instead, buy now, pay $10, buy at 1.0, pay $30, now the dev's have lost potential money to those that bought early and players that bought later are angry at the devs for the price increase. I suppose the devs could charge $10 for the base game and sell features like survival and multiplayer as "DLC" later but that would come with its own PR nightmare. They're better off selling it for full price now to those who trust them to follow through on their promises, and if you're not one of those then thats fine, simply buy in when the game reaches a point where you're happy with the value offered. I'd argue that SE2 has the the edge over KSP2 in so far that we've seen these devs are willing to continue to add value to the game over time as they did with SE1 through its development so some might see the risk of early access to be a lot less risky.
@vincent-danielgirard48737 күн бұрын
@@atlas7508 I get your point. I think it's somewhat valid, but sadly in that case it wouldn't apply because the SE team already annouced that they would be progressively increasing the price as more content is added in. I'm not against increasing the price of the game as more content is added in. One great example of successful game that had this scheme implemented is Minecraft. The Alpha version was about 5$, the beta, about 12$, and now its about 25$ (quick maths since im in Canada). I believe its fair and representative of the game's content while also respecting the player. I think you're right that SE2 has the edge over KSP2 though, and I'm happy people are recognizing that!
@atlas75086 күн бұрын
@vincent-danielgirard4873 I'll admit I wasn't aware that they said they were going to be raising the price of the game as development goes, so I will concede that $30 is probably a bit of a steep price to start. I still think its worth it to some people, those that primarily enjoy creative in SE1 especially with the new unified grid sizes for detailing, it'll be worth the price to them. All said I'm also waiting for a while before buying as survival is where I have the most fun, so I guess I'm in the same boat. But I haven't seen any reason SE2 will end up like KSP2 so I'll simply wait until the time is right and watch their progress eagerly!

I got burned by the stomping land so I don't buy early access very often. So I will keep an eye on it if they make it to vs2 with planets and survival, a bit disappointing that its the big release but there is no point in playing it. Lets hope they didn't rush it out because they are running out of money.

AT THE MOMENT, I’m probably going to hold off. I understand every disclaimer, and accept them. However, I’m somewhat disappointed by the small selection of blocks with which to build. SE1 has such a large selection of unique designs, and it sucks not seeing at least the full set of basics (such as the other two tools and conveyer tubes). I’m sure I’m not the only one that wanted to prepare vehicles for Survival. Maybe I’ll pick it up during VS1.5 or the Survival update.

On a Space Engineers Facebook group, it's already happened, someone asking why multiplayer is grayed out on the home screen. I replied that I sincerely hope that post is just a troll post. I tried some collisions, and they didn't seem to work. I tried ramming the mining ship into the big blue ship, and it would just bounce off with no damage.

I don't mind supporting Keen, but for $30 I would definitely hope there would be more features. Right now the best thing it has going for it is that it looks pretty. I'm not sure if I should return it now and get it when more stuff is added (and get my fix from se1 and content on youtube), or hold onto it and see like I did with ksp2.
