In a way, Tom's reactions in the whole spider-eating thing was so beautiful and correct and accurate to how Peter Parker/Spiderman would react since he got his powers from a spider, his father dedicated most of his life studying spiders, he calls himself Spiderman, his suit, logos, powers, abilities, designs, inventions, are all based on spiders. The ending isn’t very nice, if someone isn’t comfortable with something and is obviously in stress (clicking pens, turning away and tensing up as seen in the end) people should know when to stop. I know sometimes it’s funny for a joke but only if it’s mild humour and not making someone uncomfortable. Maybe take this as a thing to learn from?
