This is my wife’s account but I gotta share this. After watching Eric Glesser flipping the Siren closed during the BladeHQ interview. I tried closing my Endura the way he did and it literally bit me too. Still love my Endura but it was kind of funny to see Eric get bit too. Thanks for your awesome knives Eric and thanks David for keeping that part in the video. Lol

If Spyderco would make a kitchen knife set in LC200N in a wooden block I would buy that for sure. You know it will be plenty of money, but it will be something to pass on to future generations and become a family piece. I just love that steel.

I like Spyderco knives they are my favorite folding knives especially the Sprint runs and exclusives. I like how Spyderco tries new steels on their knives and handles no other knife maker does that as much as Spyderco they are the best . I am looking forward to the orange CPM REX 45 Native Chief , I wish they made one in the Green handle like the Paramiltary 2 and 3 with the CPM45 VN which I would also like to buy. Erik, in case you read these comments, please no more sprint runs. If you promise to keep making your knives in these new steels, many of us will buy our favorite models in every steel type. For example, I want a Manix 2 and a Shaman in Rex 45, SPY27, and S45VN. But if these are sprints only, I’m not buying any.
@jonasv328
@jonasv328 5 жыл бұрын
But why do you refuse to buy a sprint run knife? I don't think there will be a market to make every knife with all the steels all the time. Way too expensive and cumbersome for logistics and dealers.
@oscarmedina1597
@oscarmedina1597 5 жыл бұрын
Jonas V, I’ve explained this in other knife review videos. A good knife is not cheap; we, as collectors, have to plan ahead which ones we will buy and when. A sprint run disrupts this planning and results in a bigger expense down the line. Also, a sprint run creates an artificial high-demand, low-supply effect on the market. This is used by the manufacturers as justification for keeping their regular runs at high prices.
@jonasv328
@jonasv328 5 жыл бұрын
@@oscarmedina1597 Yes, from your perspective it is understandable. But there is another problem: Each year a lot of unique knives are discontinued because demand is low and there is no capacity to produce hundreds of different models in parallel and have them all in stock at dealers all over the world. If they are not able to continue production of e.g. a Sage 2 which is really a unique knife, why should they continue the production of 20 different variants of PM2, 20 different variants of Shaman, ... Native, and so on. There are so many reasons why mass production for exotic steels is not feasible.
@oscarmedina1597
@oscarmedina1597 5 жыл бұрын
Jonas V, then “a lot of unique knives” shouldn’t be made. If a design can’t hold the attention of the market, then it goes. If a knife is a staple, then it should be made in different steels and configurations- maybe not tens of thousands at a time, but certainly on an on-going basis.
@oscarmedina1597
@oscarmedina1597 5 жыл бұрын
By definition, a sprint is one and done. What we want is for the designs that are popular to be manufactured again until the demand is met.

Leave the kitchen knives to the experts like Wusthof, and Zwilling J. A. Henckels. Just because a knife “looks”:good doesn’t mean it will perform well. It’s more than just good steel and good looks, it’s about how it feels and how it performs. Spyderco makes EXCELLENT pocket knives but those Germans have been making knives since the 1700’s and 1800’s. I carry a PM2 in my pocket and have Wusthof’s in my kitchen. It’s just like driving a car.. know your abilities and stay in your lane.

I'll write the same thing I did in the blade HQ vid: Buyers: we hate these sprint runs because we can never experience something we know we would enjoy KZbinrs: sprint runs are the devil and need to die. It leads to more people being unhappy than happy. It uses fear tactics to drive sales. Spyderco: wait till you see all the Sprint runs we have in store this year! We know it's what you wanted! And if that doesn't sound extreme enough, we are also going to do flash batches. Get the parts, one and done and you got none! In order to fund all of these sprint runs and steel experiments you guys keep begging us for we of course need to raise our prices.

Why not use h1 steel in your kitchen knives. Sharpens about same as bd1 and def not much harder then you -cr13mov etc,,(-=blank, fill in ur number) h1 will give you the best corrosion resist for sitting in a kitchen sick with who knows what on it for how long at times..and it’s def not harder to sharpen then the super steels like m390 etc.. sharpens maybe between the 8cr13mov to vg10 ability so even your novice sharpener can sharpen it. Been waiting for that blade steel in spyderco kitchen knives and if they put lc200n steel into their kitchen knives. I’m def 100% buying it but then u do have to deal with the people who can’t even sharpen steel like s30v.. but sure a lot more spyderco fans would buy a kitchen knife with that lc200n in it. Granted I have no clue if you can get that supper fine edge like can needed with kitchen knives like they do with that -cr13mov steel crap. Only reason I haven’t gotten a spyderco kitchen knife yet.. Although I’m sure they know much better then me..maybe the lower cr13mov steels holds a sharper fine(hair whittling) cutting edge little longer and then dulls fast after that edge goes, know supersteel knives,,hold their working edge a lot longer then any lower grade steel but heard they don’t hold their hair whittling sharpness as long. Only thing can see using that lower steel for..do few cuts, Touch up and few cut more touch up etc..
