Well, at least Kuching Archdiocese embraced its past by rebuilding it somewhat in similar feature like what old St Joe used to be. Old st joe church was in a sad state back then. Perhaps that was why they dont wanna keep it, as it is not structurally sound (or maybe bcoz too "traditional" in a Catholic sense. Well, it was 1960s. Everyone was in the 60s mood, all funky, all abstract thinking. And somehow the idea of combining native architecture with a place of worship was something cool, until they realised demolishing an iconic, straight to the point Catholic building, was a bad idea....).
