New statistics show heightened mortality rate from fine particulate pollution across Allegheny Count

A new study finds that county residents have a higher mortality rate from fine particulate pollution than other parts of the country, particularly in the poorer towns of the Mon Valley and parts of the city. KDKA-TV's Andy Sheehan reports.

You are kidding right? I remember goung thru pittsburgh to the car auction when the steel mills were operating! I saw soot 1/2 an inch thick on porches, sidewalks etc from the mills! They been closed for years now this🧐

Yea they made the particles smaller which is why is even more dangerous because it gets into your blood stream instantly. Sure the sun shines and the soot isn’t an inch an a half that doesn’t make the air quality not dangerous or toxic unfortunately.

I worry about this because I have COPD, I'm terminal and I'm moving to Allegheny County pretty close to this steel mill. They've invested tens of millions of dollars into pollution control. The only thing they're controlling is what gets out by mouth.

So let me see if I have this right, all of a sudden it's more dangerous to live in the city with the Coke Works for example doing a much better job clean the air than they did let's say 50 or 75 years ago? Others will tell you that there's never enough to satisfy people who make a living talking about our air pollution. They never mentioned how much better it is from decades ago but always tell us now how terrible it is. I do not know anyone who is against clean air and clean water. These people will not be happy until all of these mills are overseas and we are dependent for everything from different continents.
