NEW STEAM LINK Wireless QUEST 3 App w/ Automobolista 2 - Is it Better than Virtual Desktop? In this video I will give you my opinion on the new Steam Link app and sim racing. This is new app released by STEAM that allows you to connect wirelessly to your PC to play your Steam VR games. I will be testing it out playing Automobilista 2 and giving my opinion of the STEAM Link app vs Virtual Desktop, Oculus Air Link, and also a wired Link cable. Which option will be best for Sim Racing? I will let you know what I think but also leave your opinions in the comment section.

- Thrustmaster T-GT II with Open Wheel Rim
- Thrustmaster T-LCM Load Cell Pedals
- VR Headsets: Quest 3 / PSVR2
- Consoles: PS5
- PC: RTX3080 / i7 10th Gen / 32GB RAM

Thanks for doing the comparison and making the video. When you use the wire/cable are you accessing the game through the Oculus software or Virtual Desktip? Cheers.

Virtual Desktop is only if you are wireless.

In the headset are you only seeing above the dash like shown in the recording? Seems like the fov is capturing more of the roof then the steering wheel and dash. I'm assuming your seeing more than you're capturing here? It's been a long time since I hopped in VR but pretty sure my rift S had more vertical fov then what I'm seeing here. Just asking because I've gone back and forth about hopping back in to VR for sim racing.

The VR capture in AMS2 that the game does doesn't represent what you actually see in game. You see way more of everything than the Rift S.

I prefer steam link. Everything is integrated with steam. Love it!

It made Alyx finally load and work very well (Quest3, 4090). No real reason for me to try it on the racing sims, though.

For me, it's wired, but others will say wireless for them, so I guess it depends.

I either need to buy a new link cable or I have a weird anomaly of a setup. (4070/5800x/Google Fiber) But SteamLink at least in Dirt Rally 2.0 looked good but there were constant stutters. And when I used my link cable I can't really notice a performance difference from AirLink. But I do have my PC wired to a mesh hub and my headset is right next to it.

"And when I used my link cable I can't really notice a performance difference from AirLink." If your cable is hooked up....do you have Air Link checked off? You may be running wired and not air link. Also I tried Dirt Rally 2 as well...wired is MUCH better. Which I expected.

@jcaashby3 I'm pretty sure I did. But I've had this cable for so long and its also super long. I'm thinking it's too long for my needs now or it may have degraded over time. But yeah I think I'll buy a new one but I'll miss having an excuse for me wrapping myself around trees and titans. 😅

I use a long cable with no problems. If there was something wrong with the cable, your connection probably wouldn't show green in the Oculus app.

@thecasualracinggamer makes sense to me. Promise I'm not bragging and truly just saying it and I'll admit maybe I'm so old I just might be slowing down in my 30s but I don't feel like I might have better setup other than going DD on a new wheel (and I definitely will). AirLink feels smooth for me.

I feel dumb. I realized I said "titans," thinking that was about large boulders in corners and just in the last few days noticed my navigator was saying "it tightens." Sorry I couldn't let this exist without explanation.

Just bought a used quest 2 and a used gaming laptop to try racing vr if I can on a I5 10th and a 1650 gpu .wish me luck 😂 and the fact that I have to fix the laptop first .hopefully it will be strong enough...

For a better budget laptop 4060 will be a sweet spot

For me(ryzen 7600x, 6600xt, quest 2) steam link has much less performance overhead ie i can increase the supersampling further. also i found that going into steam vr settings on desktop then changing my default api back (from oculus)to steam open xr reduced this overhead further still...

I always think the same, but I keep hearing some people get better performance wireless than wired.

I use wireless through virtual desktop and at the same time I'm plugged into the wall for power. Virtual desktop is just less of a hassle than USB and runs better most of the time

​@@soundscaperecordings1111 I don't notice a difference tbh. It's not like it runs over displayport when you use a cable, it still compresses it, only difference being that you send the data via usb instead of WLAN. And with max bitrate on virtual desktop I don't see a difference.
