It's a difficult one for me because I'm a synth guy so as soon as someone starts talking in the 2k range, a little guy starts whispering Dave Smith in my ear. That said, if I had to spend that much on a piano only, then that's the best sounding piano I've heard in a long while! Also, a highly under-appreciated feature is that it looks good. I know as musicians we're supposed to focus purely on the sound, but I think of it like a nicely prepared meal. If it looks good, you WANT to play it! You walk into a room with that in the corner and it makes you want to get on and play something. It's instant motivation and then the sounds keep you nailed there for the whole evening.

And actually, the world pronounces Fatar with the aaaaaaaahrr really drawn out in the middle eastern style with a long rolled "r" on the end of it. I've had it for about 7 months and for the price you can't beat it if you're into pianos/electric pianos and hammond sounds. Keybed does not feel like the best but considering the weight of the piano with hammer action 73 keys it's amazing. Again, I was spoiled by arturia mkii 88 fatar keys (really heavy keybed) for several years and then switched to numa. Dunno if they stand the test of time but so far no problems.

Hey editor! Have a question for you, if I have a kawai mp7se and if I had the choice between the kawai or the numa which would you prefer ? I feel like nothing can compare to the action on the kawai but I’ve always wanted to try a futar keybed. If I switched to the numa do you think I would be as happy when it comes to the patch and the action? I’m very picky

im in the same situation… some say the sounds on kawai arr great and others bad… some say numa sounds are bad in comparison to other keyboards.. numa has amazing size, capabilities and action for sure. kawai probably has better action but its bigger and heavier. the only things is that both are in the same price range, so idk…. i think i would prefer to spend 2k on a kawai rather than numa, although i like it very much, i think kawai is on another level

This is nice, but I'm checking out every keyboard hoping that, one day, a company will get super-ambitious and put Keyscape, Pianoteq, Omnisphere, Komplete in a hardware instrument. Not specifically those four things, but that level of quality and control. Is it likely? No. Is it impossible? Everything is impossible until it's done.

Why? I have all of those VST piano libraries and about a dozen more. Garritan Abbey Rd CFX (which I have but don't really like) is over 100 Gigabytes. If you put that in a keyboard it would have to be stepped down. No stage piano has 100 Gigabytes of sample storage. Thus why I prefer VSTs running on my monstrous music production PC.

You could use the USB audio interface in the Numa X GT and a 1-cable connection to an iPad loaded with Ravenscroft or PianoTeq to achieve this. Other boards like the Kurzweil SP-7 Grand that have an audio interface would work too. I'm using the audio interface in my Numa Compact 2X with an iPad and iOS instruments and it takes the keyboard to a whole new level.

I'd love to get my hands on one of these in a store, but it's not going to happen where I live. I haven't ever owned a studiologic piece of gear, but with their past reputation, I wouldn't put myself forward as a guineapig. For those technical people out there: The new NumaX Piano GT has the (new) Studiologic TP/400 action in it (they didn't specify any other terms with it, but I imagine this one may end up being called the TP/400WOOD if its line is the true successor of the TP/40WOOD like they claim it is, as there's also a TP/40LH, TP/40MH, and TP/40GH Or HH? I don't remember the last one. They're versions with different weightings. The NumaX Piano 88 and 73 both have the (new) TP/110. Again, they haven't specified any letters that go with it, but have called it the successor to the TP/100LR. They claim both actions are massively improved. I won't believe it until I touch it. I tried two different TP100/LRs and thought they were both spongy, stale, and awful. This instrument is certainly interesting, though. The way parameters are adjusted in the zones is super intuitive.

The CP88 has a heavy sluggish action which is tough to play fast, this looks way better. Plus the integration with synths, having aftertouch is killer. So stoked to get one.

I use to have a Yamaha YC 88 for about half a year and decided to sold it. It is an amazing stage piano but the Numa X Piano GT is in another league. From its construction solid build to its GT grand touch keybed and its integration with software use is game over. Yamaha and nord should step up the game cause in a near future i see StudioLogic taking over completely in the stage piano series line, 🙌

I also asked same question on Studio Logics KZbin video but still waiting for the reply. I am more in to classical style playing always look for best rough & tough action. Kawai MP11SE had amazing action and also Yamaha CP88 I have played lot on Roland RD2000 all three has a very good action. I am not a great fan of fatar keys because reputation speed is not that great and also within year it starts making mechanical noise and key response get uneven, very bad experience I had with fatar keys action, my instrument was Korg Havian30. I was very excited to buy a Numa Concert unfortunately in my country there’s no facility to try the Studio Logic pianos Numa Concert’s sound was so impressive in fact I felt it is better sounding piano compared to Roland Kawai and Yamaha. I am really impressed with Numa X-GT and again i am confused about the key action. I hope this new key action is will give a better response and a long lasting. Hope to see videos of TP400 key action there’s no video for key action, Studio Logic must make the detail video on key action and various styles of playing specially Chopin’s abd Liszt pieces so people can judge with even trying the piano. Thank you so much. I hope someone reply on my feedback. 🙏

I’m torn between the cheaper Numa X Piano 88 (with the TP/110 keybed) and the Yamaha CP88 (especially with the new 1.5 firmware with Hamburg Steinway sample and touch settings). I have the Yamaha YC61 and love it. However, I’m not keen on the acoustic pianos. However, the new Hamburg Steinway sample in the 1.5 firmware update sounds great in the demos I’ve heard of it! The acoustic pianos in this demo sound very bright and clangy but this could be done to touch settings etc? Im very familiar with the workflow of the YC and the CP looks very similar. The workflow on the Numa X Piano also looks very intuitive and the built in mixer could be great but I did notice quite a bit of background noise in the demo of this feature? I’ve heard about a lot of reliability issues with the Studiologic keyboards and the previous TP100 keybed had terrible reviews. However, Studiologic say the TP110 keybed is a massive improvement? Decisions :- Numa X-Piano or Yamaha CP88?

Advise: wait for a year and ask early adopters how they like the keybed. Their SL 88 Studio is (in)famous for the Fatar keybed that doesn't work after a year, with bad luck or with much use after just two months. It's not the keyboards fault, it's that Studiologic saved a few cents when they built it into the body. Tips on how to fix it for cheap are on youtube, luckily. That's faster than returning it and waiting for them to not fix it lol

This has a better action than any Nord. Nords use a cheaper Fatar action. Nord has the plastic something-40 Fatar keybed. The Numa GT has the sonething-400 Wood Fatar action. This is the closest thing to the action in a Kawai MP11SE. FYI, the Nord Grand has the cheap plastic Kawai action from the old ES8.

Owner here: amazing keybed and great action. It weighs a ton (seriously) but if you're looking for feel it's hard to go past at the price point. Downsides: soundbanks, interface, no ability to sample or load your own, locked into the Numa manager (terrible), Studiologic releasing banks like "Movie Strings" - ridiculous. If it had the ability to wipe all the factory banks (keeping the pianos) and the ability to sample and create your own banks THEN it would be a Nord killer hands down. Studiologic have got lost in their own hype as far as sounds go (trust me - Kontakt will far out do the factory banks on this unit) but because it's FATAR well yeah, action is killer. Also, the FX do NOT apply to the inputs so forget about individual instruments. The master FX do relate however that's very restrictive. Again, this unit sells on its action and feel. If you are on stage then this may be of interest but if you're studio bound then stick to the same action on a MIDI machine. Realistically, a laptop will give you a lot more flexibility and a greater sound palette. Studiologic boffins: please read! You could wipe the market if you listened to your customers a little more. There is NO reason to limit this unit to a locked and antiquated system of seemingly narrow and unusable soundbanks based on someone at FATAR thinking they know what the musician wants - I mean PlectraXPluck and ClariXPack? C'mon that's just silly. You make great keys no question, but you have absolutely no idea what is needed sonically (ironically UVI is featured on the website but it's ignored as far as versatility goes). Just take a leaf from the Roland or Nord book and you will be on your way.

Yc for me due the drawbars and stellar other sounds. As well as the stomp box style interface. This is compelling for the price though and it may be more useful if you have ton of kit to run while you play. I just have the one synth so YC for me

Trouble with StudioLogic is that they are infamous for their lack of support or build quality.

So much for my comment. I bought one. Seems like they've improved their build quality quite a bit.

How come no one wants to tell me how to get sound out of this wonder? I have been playing on a beginner Casio for a year. I am getting better. I needed an upgrade. I have an AAAS in Music Technology. Out of the box I turned it on, I got no sound. What a bummer.

Like - for video and demo. From what I've heard and compared, the piano sound is downgrade compared to Studiologic's previous stage piano - Numa Concert, despite all the same physical modeling from this company. Some of Rhodes sounds are acceptable and satisfying. Some, not all!!! Hence the conclusion that new and last does not mean better. Also don't like the orange stripe solution on the backtop. If to suppose, I want to buy this thing, then certainly not for the sound, but probably more for the keybed and midi features. But not a priority.

I can’t believe Studiologic and Kurzweil are using external power supply units (wall warts) for their flagship stage pianos 😔 Total dealbreaker for me, but great sounds nonetheless.

Bollocks! The TP40 Wood is one of the best piano actions you can get. I have it in the SL88 Grand in my homestudio and I even prefer this action to the 12.000 bucks Yamaha Avant Grand action in my living room.
