They are all playing because one of them has the wii u tablet that creates all of those blocks. The first one who had the tablet was kootra and the second was Seamus

Kootra is using the gamepad. A new feature in Super Mario Bros. U is that gamepad users can spawn platforms, manipulate enemy movement patterns. Basically, Kootra can help or screw the others over.

Nova is the toad, Seamus is Mario, Dan is Luigi, Kootra was using the wii-u mote. Then Seamus and Koots swapped. The wii-u tablet can place blocks on the screen using the touch-screen to help/screw over people.

One is using the Wii U game pad, and doesn't allow hem to have a player. That person is only allowed to place blocks. The other 3 are playing with Wii remotes, so they are playable characters.

Just to let you know, there should be a button on the wii mote that lets you turn into a bubble. So whenever James gets left behind, he should go into the bubble mode so he doesn't get screwed.

No, the original creatures were Kootra, Gassy, Junk, Chilled, Sp00n, Nova, Ze, Seamus, and GMX7. Dan and Sly weren't original creatures but met people either friends of theirs or in the creatures (Dan met Sp00n and PBat introduced Sly to the Creatures).
