Ive had two very modified drz's in the past. Great, bullet proof bikes. Im actually pretty excited about the new one despite the increased weight. Its no doubt because of the super heavy catalyst exhaust, abs pump and the unnecessary rider aid electronics. Hopefully the ecu can be flashed, put on a full exhaust and get rid of some unwanted hardware to lose some pounds. I think it will be another solid drz for the next 25 years!

I'm closer to 60 now than 50. My bike of choice for today was a Yamaha XT250. Great bike, I love it, can't say enough good things about it. But If Yamaha would come out with about an.... XT325. I think that would be my Goldilocks bike. Not too small, not too big... just right. Keep it a 5 speed, I'm fine with that. Keep it air-cooled, nice for the simplicity. Keep the weight within 20 pounds of what it is now, but bump the power up 10% or so. That would be my forever bike. But since that's probably not going to happen I'm looking at the KLX300.

They had two boxes to check and somehow they decided to only do the bare minimum. My guess is that they had no existing gearbox that could just be dropped in and developing a new one would raise the price significantly. @@victoriazero8869 A manufacturer basically has 3 choices in throttle control (if emissions regulations weren't dictating anything): cable to throttle plates, zero secondaries; cable to throttle plates, with ECU servo controlled secondaries; or electronic Canbus signal to ECU which controls primaries without any secondaries. Which would you rather a manufacturer use, considering all the other products they make in house? There's no such thing as justifying anything. You make sound choices by design teams, engineers, and so forth. The most simple way to go is throttle by wire. If you don't stay with old school carburetors, anything less than throttle by wire is a half-measure, a half-step, a hybridized compromise system trying to blend manual cable throttle with ECU servo secondaries. If you're using an ECU to operate the engine, why go half way? ECU main throttle control requires control maps to operate the engine, traction control is simply a more accurate way to apply throttle than a human tugging on a cable and trying not to kill themselves. If you're not sticking to carburetors, going full throttle by wire is the LEAST complicated way to do it and offers the MOST benefit for future development.
