Meet the Suzuki Ignis!
The second-generation Suzuki Ignis arrived on UK roads in 2017 and over the years it’s been one of the Japanese brand’s most popular offerings. It occupies a rather strange place in the market as it can be considered both a city car or small SUV, depending on who you ask. WhatCar recently named it the best small SUV for value, yet it’s more similar in size to a Volkswagen Up than a Ford Puma.
The Ignis received a facelift in 2020 that gave it even more rugged compact SUV appeal with revised exterior styling, as well as the addition of a new hybrid powertrain. Like other Suzuki models, it's easy to wrap your head around the Ignis range thanks to three clearly defined trim levels and just one engine option.
So, which version should you go for? And is it the perfect choice if you’re looking for a small car with SUV capabilities?

I bought one last month and don't agree about the noise levels, the chunky rear pillars don't really make a lot of difference when you have the camera for parking. I find it an excellent car if you have a disability with the higher seating.

I managed to get two Big fish folding bikes into the boot, excellent with space for helmets and rucksack too! I enjoyed driving it but settled on the Vitara Allgrip which was fab and retained its value. Now driving a Swift Sport and leaving the bikes at home!

No, the headunit on the SZT AND SZ5 models is NOT an aftermarket Pioneer unit, it was briefly when the Ignis was first launched in 2016 but during 2017 it changed to the unit shown in the video which is a bespoke unit for Suzuki by Bosch. Some Ignis made last year and this year, alternatively have a comparable and similar looking unit by Navco due to supply shortages with the Bosch unit at the time.

I can confirm this, recently bought a 2017 SZ5 which has the Bosch head unit. Some of the others had the Pioneer units.

Loved it's looks, the seat height and build quality. Seriously considered buying one 3 years ago to go with our 67 plate Suzuki Celerio. However on the test drive I found it all a little narrow. So, instead I bought another Vitara this time the Hybrid. So impressed and the local dealer in Ashton was one of the very best I've encountered in 35 years of driving. 🤗

Hooray! you are reviewing a great little car. These are (taking in to account prices these days) reasonably priced. Unlike many rivals they have a more reliable 4 cylinder engine with a timing chain not the Stellantis and Ford stupid cambelt in oil arrangement. Well done Suzuki. By the way the Kamiq and Puma are not rivals to the Ignis. They are bigger and more expensive.

Replaced a splash with this. Miss the coin holder and spectacle holder. Also no heated wing mirrors or intermittent rear wiper. CVT very good but they reduced fuel tank. Also bought a spare tyre.

Can you get automatic top spec in the UK? Apperently Here in Ireland if you get the automatic you have to get the zT version which lacks of keyless automatic air con built in indicator lights in the mirrors etc Could you tell me if in the UK is the same? Thanks

In UK you can take a SZ5 with full top spec.

His comments about the CVT being sluggish at moving off and the overall 0-60 time requiring gaps to be carefully chosen at junctions are simply wrong - I have one of these and with the battery assistance it's actually quite nippy. I presume he must be confusing the performance of the CVT with the automated manual gearbox in the previous version.

As an 2023 Ignis owner who previously owned a 2018 model, I have wondered when the steering problems that I had experienced in the 2018 model had been improved. Now I know because this reviewer complains about the lack of feedback and self-centring in a 2022 model so it must be a very recent improvement. The steering on the 2023 model is fine. Regarding MPG figures; on a journey I have achieved 64 mpg but driving around town I rarely reach 50mpg.

If you can’t spell metric you can go back to inches, but if you do, all dimensions in metric are in meters, centimeters and millimeters IN THAT ORDER ONLY. So 37 hundred millimeters is 3 meters seventy. One hundred and eighty millimeters is 18 centimeters. Simple, no?

Sz3 has been deleted from Suzuki sales literature. Just had my complimentary two month check over from my dealer. I know it’s me but the auto start/ of starting procedure compleatly frustrates me when the car does not start for whatever reason. Otherwise love the car sz5 hybrid ignis all grip.

This is true . After 10.000 km the Motor seems running better and better. You must force Performance. 5.000 rpm or more! Now i have the Ignis III two years. Driving a lot every day! Vmax. 172 kmh over specs, gps controlled.

I had one but sadly got shut after a couple of months as it was very crashy over potholes. It felt like I was driving a tin can, my Suzuki swift I had before this was a much better car even though it had a hard suspension. My friend has the panda cross and it’s so much more comfortable than the ignis.

I test drove an Ignis more than a few years ago. The jolty ride was so torturous (including on the expressway), especially when riding in the back, that rendered its “comfy roomy high-chair back seats” useless. I might as well just go get a quiet comfy-riding used Mk5 Polo & forget about having “roomy back seats with leg room” in a nimble/convenient little car narrower than 1.7 meter wide. 9:46

12.4 seconds? 🤡Suzuki are always telling porkies on their performance. There's an Ignis Autobahn PoV vid out there - watch it. These are a really nice little wagon - unless you're looking for "premium" style quietness. If you want more, take the back seats out - 4 bolts - they weigh about 50Kg each.

Suspension is very hard, the automated manual clutch has been rubbish on our third! And biggest issue is it is still petrol just need to be an EV as it would remove the auto clutch. Sick to death of the silly "Suzuki comes a hybrid as standard"

Instead of wasting money on 1 Star poor quality shiit Buy Tata Punch👊, it's much more beautiful, has higher ground clearance, have 5 Star safety, and looks cute. It comes with EBS, Traction control, Brake Sway assist, Emergency Panik Brake Assist,quality Haaman Speakers and awesome music system and many more, also it's way better in offroading than Ignis.
