Hit the LIKE BUTTON if you are excited for this massive Switch 2 info update. This was a crazy way to start 2025, but a good one. Samsung made the RTX 3050 mobile GPU on 8nm, but an entire custom Nvidia SOC for Switch 2 would have the CPU in it as well, and Samsung also makes 4nm/5nm chips. BTW, even if 8nm, Switch 2 Docked performance will be awesome (as I've been saying for all of 2024). The only thing this leak shows some proof of is that it's a Samsung SOC, but not the chip size. Also this seems like the first time (that I can recall) Nintendo basically saying DLSS (AI upscaling with Neural Networks) is something they are patenting up to 4K (and even beyond 4K). They had the upscaling patent before, but they never listed all the resolutions so detailed before for what they could output to. Definitely looks like a major Switch 2 feature. Recently, Devs said they are excited for Switch 2, saying it will get most AAA games ported over. That's what people should be focusing on. I’d say it’s 100% ok to be excited for Switch 2 guys. Hype on!

DLSS belongs to Nvidia. Nintendo can not patent it. They can either use it or create another method. Makes no sense to even bother. Just use DLSS. Or did Nintendo skimp, and bit include Tensor cores, etc. Wouldn't be surprised.

The N64 and GameCube were impressively powerful for their generations, yet that didn't sell more games. They dropped out of the "hardware wars" and they've done fine. Even The Switch is still chugging along and some of the games look amazing. Just go play BoTW again, remember the hardware it's running on and remember that it was a WiiU game in reality. The Switch 2 will be plenty powerful enough for a gaming console. In fact, it's going to surprise everyone that has low expectations. Just like the WiiU and Switch did. In the console world, architecture, and optimization tools and documentation (support) can make all of the difference. Being that the architecture isn't too much different than the Switch that means that devs will have an easy time adjusting and doing their magic.

I've seen articles on the internet with headlines like "The Switch 2 Might Not Be As Powerful As Expected" and then the writer brushing the system that it may "only be as powerful as a PS4 Pro". Like whut? What do these narrow-minded people expect? That the console would be as powerful as a PS5 or Series X/S? PS4-PS4 Pro was exactly what the average Switch users were expecting the Switch 2's RAW capabilities to be at. Plus the graphical fidelity gap between PS4 era games and PS5 weren't that even noticeable anyway. We've pretty much peaked during the PS4/XBone days. Also the PS4 Pro didn't have any form of modern upscaling techs like DLSS, which the Switch 2 is rumored to have. So yeah, PS4 Pro-level performance + DLSS could prove to be a wonderful combination in terms of balancing performance to battery life ratio. AND hopefully encourages more developers to think outside the box by being more effecient with the limited (but capable) resource they're eventually going to face on the less than powerful PS5 and Series X console that is the Switch 2.

@@thebravegallade731 yes, but depends on how desperate they are. You pay for the bad yield, chips are sold by wafer. Samsung’s yield is lower than TSMC. Samsung’ chip # per wafer * bad yield < TSMC’s chips # per wafer * higher yield . Samsung’s chip # per wafer is lower as it is determined by process node. Combined with lower yield per wafer, you get much less from Samsung, and it has to be so much cheaper in order for them to make sense, since TSMC’s node comes with other benefits, better power consumption at lower wattage, no need to redesign motherboard for a mid generation refresh other other components will need tinkering (this saves money). I doubt going with TSMC is more expensive, even if its, as long as it is too much more expensive, its extra benefits will even out the cost.

So it looks to be about a 200mm² die for Switch 2. Laptop 3050 is exactly 200mm². At 8nm, it's going to have to be very cut down. Tensor will be rudimentary, just enough to enable DLSS functionally. Battery will need to be at least 8000mAh or playable duration will be terrible. You would be looking at half the Cuda core count of the laptop 3050. People talking 1080p AAA @60FPS are being ridiculous. So I would think it has to be 5nm. Otherwise performance at around the 7-10W mark for handheld on such a cut down SoC will be terrible. At any rate DLSS will be mandatory for any decent performance and duration of play. It's quite simple, there is only so much you can do with such a small amount of power. The whole 8nm drama arose from the T234 chip being designed for 8 AND TSMCs higher end nodes being fought over by costumers who would likely be willing to play more than Nintendo. Nvidia has already opened up for custom SoCs so there is a decent chance the Switch SoC got a special "rework" to like 6nm or better, which Samsung could produce basically uncontested. Samsung has expertise with ARM chips, usually just not high end nodes. Its all still really mysterious if you ask me

It's been interesting discussing the 4nm vs 8nm stuff for sure, good news is, the specs that have leaked (Cuda Cores, TDP) all support that the Switch 2 will be awesome while docked. In handheld mode though? Hmmm, we'll have to wait and see what node is the final one for that. If it's 8nm, they might only get 2-3 hours of battery life while very downclocked, which also makes DLSS in Portable mode (as we talked about in today's video) extremely important.

For bigger screens it gets better the higher the input resolution is. sub 1080 likely wont look good at a 4K screen I imagine but maybe upscaling to something and then use nearest neighbor could push them to 4K? Imagine a Switch 2 with two slots for 64gb cartridge. 128 gigs total or one slot for Switch 1 and the other for switch 2 or two of each. I hope it isn’t that powerful because I don’t want a movie/ long development times for exclusives.

That upscaling is NOT from Nvidia. This isn't DLSS just because it uses a neural network, like... what? We've known for a while that Nintendo were working on their own upscaling tech. It might be to give devs multiple choices OR because according to Digital Foundry, DLSS is not a free lunch especially not in a low voltage portable environment. When you say stuff like that, it really puts your whole credibility on the line.

The thing I'm worried about is the almost complete lack of rumours surrounding any new gimmick, we seem to have a more powerful switch and that's it, which would surely be the only time Nintendo is trying to play it safe. There was some brief rumour about cameras a long time ago but nothing since. That's not necessarily bad as Nintendo gave up using the I.R sensor in switch pretty early.

There won't be anymore gimmicks or big changes in designs now. They have found the perfect console to sell their exclusives on to a huge audience.

They should bring out 2 versions. A powerful Switch for people who play more on tv (no OLED, weaker battery), and a cheaper weaker one, who play on the go (OLED, better battery) with little price difference.
@Wiimaster.Күн бұрын
@TjaVideos Personally, I would much rather prefer this strategy. A standard & basic version that is less expensive and affordable without an OLED display. And the other variant being decked out completely with all the bells and whistles as well as an OLED display. That way, no sacrifice has to be made in terms of features/capabilities but maybe so financially. Simply save a bit more and get the upgraded version. But honestly speaking, I highly doubt there'll be 2 variants available upon release. Maybe a mid-gen refresh.

Are you new to Nintendo? Every time they do backwards compatibility they have it so you can just put in the older systems game right into the system. Wii played GC games. Wii U played Wii games. DS could play GB and GBA games. 3DS could play DS games. That's how Nintendo always does it, Switch 2 will be using similar cartridges to the Switch it will be like the 3DS, there will be some difference on the cartridge that makes it so Switch 2 ones don't work in a Switch 1, that's all. Like how 3DS cartridges had a nub.

I think those photos just don’t show any SD Card slots because it might be on a separate daughter board. I mean, noise about them using microSD Express cards as the extra storage option is there for a reason, and if they still used the older standard then a lot of games would load painfully slow.

Nice video. Not a criticism, I enjoy your insights. I tend to think prices could go higher if XAI207 rockets. But understand the logic for sandbagging estimates. My opinion is XAI207 breaks 1, perhaps reaches 10 ATH, if conditions are right. But broader forces are at play now. We’re moving into really unknown territory. And these entities are shrewd. I think there’s massive manipulation ahead. If XAI207 survives that, well, we’re likely in for a good pump.

TSMC make chips for almost all manufacturers. Nvidia, Intel, AMD, Qualcom, none of them have the domestic production capability to meet demand. They all outsource production to TSMC.

The Switch 2 will be the first generational leap console we've seen in decades. Nintendo has been competing against the last two generations with a system no more powerful than the 7th generation (ie 360, PS3) and still manages impossible ports to it.
@silversonic12 күн бұрын
I think I recall Samsung announcing having some partnerships in place with TSMC regarding AI chip production a few months ago that also involved nVidia. It's not impossible that TSMC could be aiding in other chips as well. But there is always the possibility there will be a V1 and a V2 system just like the OG Switch. The V1's battery life is about half that of the V2. So if battery life does turn out to be crappy, hold out for V2.

Do not be fooled, almost every GPU made by Nvidia since 2018 has been able to do 4k DLSS. How it runs and how bad it looks depends on the spec of the GPU and the aggressiveness of the DLSS setting (IE, if you’re scaling 1440p to 4k or 420p to 4K).

@@initialfd-3716 8nm to 7nm is not a "die shrink" it's a process change. 8 and 7nm don't measure anything. They're marketing terms for 8nm and 8nm EUV (extrema ultraviolet).
