Hey Mike, great video - as always. I bought the TicWatch Pro 3 GPS in January 2021 for 3 Reasons: 1. Wear OS instead of Tizen or something like that 2. 3 day battery 3. Mobvoi promised the update to Wear OS 3 There's still no update available. I think the promise itself is about 3 years old now.

Mobvoi promised to update Ticwatch pro 3 and Ticwatch pro 3 ultra to Wear Os 3 but it didn't happen and I am still waiting for that update which it seems it will never come! with this situation I won't buy any other smartwatch from this company again!

If only they could have delivered and updated the pro 3 ultra to wearOS 3, many people would probably have upgraded to the pro 5. I don't feel the support for this one will be better than it have been for the Pro 3 Ultra.

Agreed. I only bought it because it was advertised as getting wearOS3. I'm surprised a class action hasn't started yet for people to get refunds.

That's why you don't really buy things on promises. After my ticwatch pro lte died, I decided not to go for the pro 3.

I will never buy another Mobvoi product again after the way they handled the Ticwatch Pro 3 update. Now, they're releasing this update with Wear 3.0 and Google isn't far from releasing Wear 4.0. If you think this watch will get an update to 4.0 any time soon, if ever, you're in for some serious disappointment. Do not buy Mobvoi products if you care about updates.

I like many others was annoyed with the TW3 and lack of updates. But honestly I gave in and got the TW5 over the Samsung 6 classic and I don't regret it at all. Samsung almost got my money but comparing the pixel watch, classic 6, and TW5 there is no denying the TW5 was the best choice for me. Love it and wear it constantly and people are always asking me about it. It is the perfect look, size and does everything I need it to do.

I've had both the TIcWatch 3 Ultra GPS and a Garmin Instinct Solar for the last 2 years. If there is no smart assistant anymore, which I barely used anyway, and you don't really use the voice calling function much, then it's the Garmin Instinct Solar series I'd pick every time. The newer Garmin Instinct series has the ability to produce unlimited battery power with sufficient sunlight exposure daily. I've been a smartwatch geek since my LG G Watch R, circa 2015, and the longer I analyze my use cases the more I realize that unless you are really serious about sports tracking then all you need is notifications. I you really are a fitness fanatic then you would probably better served by a Garmin Fenix or something by Coros or Suunto. As a Smart Home geek also, I'd be tempted back to Wear OS if the was better integration for tiles or widgets for smart home actions or routines, including those for Alexa. I know there are workaround, because I have implemented them, but they are clunky.

Nice review Mike - what's the vibration motor like? I really liked my Pro 3 Ultra but the vibration motor really grated - could hear it much better than I could feel it and it wasn't at all discrete! I'm guessing this was due to the body mostly being plastic and might be a bit more like Huawei and Samsung watches now it has an aluminium body? Here's hoping as a high pitched noisy buzz you can hardly feel is not great for a >£300 watch!

Does anyone know if the Tickwatch Pro 5 has anything akin to Garmin's Body Battery feature, or the Fatigue Assessment that was available on the Tickwatch 3 Ultra please? Considering upgrading from Garmin Venu 1 to Tickwatch Pro 5, but body battery is a useful feature I would miss.

Their previous versions had terrible vibration haptic feedback. Has that improved? I couldn't even feel when getting notifications with the TW3. Thanks

Agree… I’d love a “battle” between the Galaxy Watch 5 and this one. My Watch 5 has really good battery life and interface IMHO… would be interested to see how the TicWatch could beat it.

The watch looks nice at a glance, in terms of design. Question tho - what is the standard software support for watches? Like, flagship phones are like 4 major OS, 5 security years? Watches are like, 1? Or none?

This is TicWatch. Updates and TicWatch cannot coexist. So, basically this watches highly unlikely will get any major update. I unfortunately have one of their watches.

I must say, you want to stick to Samsung, Apple or Google. I am still stuck on android 9 with a security patch from October 2021with my Tic Watch Ultra GPS and I've had it a year now. I think the wrist gestures should have been brought over to WearOS 3. I particularly enjoyed the flick of the wrist to scroll up or down for my message.

The number 4 is considered an unlucky number in Chinese because it is nearly homophonous to the word death. That's why they never use that number, to be more specified. But still I'm waiting for the update, after I'll see some changes in the news tech about Mobvoi maybe then i will buy the TicWatch 5 Pro, except from this great watch.

Mobvoi is a chinese company. Hence there is no watch 4, as the number 4 in chinese mythology is pronouced as "si" which sounds similar to "death". Hence any or most chinese manufacturers avoid any product with number 4 as its considered unlucky.

It's a smart watch, so the software is quite significant here. Not a great track record in this separtment. No assistant, no sim support, one model fits all, updates may never arrive. I'll skip this one. Maybe our Korean fellows can come up with something better than this in August. But the hardware itself is impressive. I'll give it that.

Samsung did have a Galaxy Watch 4 series, but most Chinese companies, which Mobvoi is, skip the number 4, because to them, it's bad luck, like the number 13 is for the U.S. Google is fhe reason Google Assistant isn't available for other Wear OS 3+ powered smartwatches, besides Samsung & Google themselves, at the moment, which is dumb & is also the reason why all your other Wear OS 3+ powered smartwatches (Fossil, Diesel, Citizens, etc) use Alexa.

Not sure why Mobvoi went with this design? They could have gone with the Amazfit GTR 4 look. I just don't believe this form factor suites a smart watch and that is why Apple will continue to dominate the space. It would be interesting if Samsung were to launch a square and a circle to see how the sales would pan out, why is this so hard to figure out?

Smart watch Design is so boring. What is a smart watch should look like?? It should be doing other interesting stuff rather then just monitoring health. Company should be thinking out of the box in 2023 and upcoming year. Why would I buy one comparing to a norm.

I like it too much when there is competition like that, it will force Samsung and Google to pay attention to the quality but especially to the pricing of their products 😈 But, on the other hand, this TicWatch Pro 5, despite all its qualities, has flaws that make it clearly never my choice, and not that of many other people. Its design is almost soulless, blend, it's me, or construction feel, seems and appears really cheap 🤔, no wireless charging (proprietary charger), only one color (that's really personal, I don't like black watches, so black smartwatches and I don't think I'm alone in this case), but especially TicWatch recent past in terms of software tracking, it's not very famous, and will be a dealbraker for many people. Ps: on the other hand in view of the performance of this TicWatch, the Pixel Watch 2 which is supposed to come out with the same processor looks promising

Will never buy anopther garbage Tic Watch. My Pro 3 GPS never got any updates past Oct 2021. No Wear OS 3 update as promised despite having the most capable processor on the market. Strava no longer supported due to missing Wear OS 3 update. Google Assistant broken, can't make calls or send messages. The power button has now failed and I've gone back to Samsung. Mobvoi will happily take your money and abandon it's customers. Worst smart watch company out there. They flood KZbinrs with free product and paid endorsements to get you to buy their garbage product.
