Good point Mike. Tiger in his prime had no interest in "the Tour" or how other players were doing financially. He was exclusively about winning. Fine. Now as his playing career comes to a close, his priorities have shifted. He is however the same person.

Tiger n Tori’s idea not interesting at all. The big issue TW & Tory have, is they both aren’t Jack and Arnie. People trusted both of them, Arnie was easily the most loved and the players knew they had their best interest in mind. Both TW & Tory just proved with the Put Put game plan it’s all about themselves. As to what the PGA is now doing, I agree TW & Tory could care less about the other players on the tour. It’s all about what’s best for themselves and of course the king that being the pga. Phil thank you for taking the hits and having the guts for putting it all on the line for the other players and the advancement of pro golf.

I agree with Tiger being able to play is a big deal. But not for Tiger as much as the PGA. PGA have been living off Tiger for the last 25yrs. I see this as a continuation of the same style of operation with a few modern tweaks by the PGA. I can't see Tiger has any interest in playing Top Golf, but he would agree if it meant helping save the PGA. The PGA knows if it can get Tiger in front of a TV camera it's a cash cow for them and also connects them to the younger generation. They make it look like it's Rory and Tiger's venture and that keeps the players happy because they can see the PGA giving the player ownership. But not to the tour just a side project. In saying all that I do think it's a good idea. I just have a different idea on the motives.

We can foresee friction and push back from gamblers with their TGL "simulated" golf concept for the drive and iron shots. A simulator is programmed and may or may not produce an honest result from the ball strike. LIV has not announced any such virtual event. Perhaps LIV will get it right for the massive opportunity that is global gambling on golf.

Its actually quite ironic. The players have been upset for years that the PGA tour only caters for the big guns, specifically Tiger. Tiger 10 shots behind, maybe not making the cut? No problem, we will just air every freaking shot of his 3 over par round. Guess what? Tiger and Rory want some stadium skill challenge shit on Mondays. Everyone is all in and it gets the stamp of approval. All that LIV has been accused of is basically getting copied by the PGA and worse...more money and "exhibition". Pretty much laughable.

Stroke play is boring for the most part unless there is top players going real low, their is a rivalry of top players or some other drama. Majors are the exception because of the conditions and it would be even better to see tougher scoring conditions during the majors. I also would like to see with technology today as far as streaming goes the option to follow players that I prefer watching the whole round. Today I prefer watching KZbin golf like the guys from GOOD GOOD, it is so entertaining. You get so much more value for your time. Would the pga ever do something as fun as a best ball, scramble or 3 club challenge? How about a bringing back a big break type skills challenge for tour PROS?

Thx Ed. Good points. We def think the whole broadcast concept will move to following each shot of whatever player you choose. Robot cameras, drones, wireless feeds, shot trackers. Tiger being called a narcissist in this episode may anger Tiger fans but if he wasn’t a narcissist, he wouldn’t be Tiger Woods. Any person who is considered the GOAT of their sport, industry etc. requires some level of narcissism. Tiger woods (in his prime) prioritized his golf career over mentoring players, developing relationships and really doing anything for anyone else but himself. Which gave us the chance to see the greatest golfer whose ever lived. So any angry Tiger fans, as a huge Tiger fan myself, I agree he is a narcissist and curious why anyone can dispute that or feel that the need to other than their blind fandom to anything that may paint Tiger in a bad light.

The PGA tour has handled this so poorly, as has LIV Tour. The LIV tour is NOT compelling from a fans perspective. In fact, the most compelling aspect of it is just watching the PGA Tour's bizarre reaction to its existence. How the PGA Tour has not realized that LIV tour is just existing off of substantial, yet arbitrary money. Their backers are willing to throw tons of money at it for now, cuz that is what Saudis do. When they eventually get bored w the little to no profit on return they pull out and everything dries up and withers. Which is precisely what would have happened if the PGA tour would have just allowed the players to compete on both tours... their stance on ot is completely hypocritical. Even Rory mentioned they allow players on Euro, Asian, Japanese, Sunshine, and Latin American tours to play in dual leagues simultaneously, but what McIlroy didn't mention is that all of those leagues are members of the International Federation of PGA Tours... so they are all in association with or affiliates of the PGA Tour... effectively giving PGA Tour a complete monopoly over the professional golf industry aside from LIV Tour. IMO these are premature and irrational responses and actions by a league and corporation that is clearly desperate to avoid any legitimate competition or challenge to their monopoly on the industry. That authoritarian perspective annoys me by the PGA Tour, especially when it was nowhere near necessary. Honestly, what benefit does the PGA Tour gain by permanently banning players that leave from returning... outside of the (no longer valid) initial threat or deterrence of the ultimatum? Would the PGA Tour and say Dustin Johnson both not stand to benefit in a year if say DJ comes back and says "hey, I made a mistake in leaving. I thought it was best at the time... yadda yadda... Id like to come back full time?" Name recognition, deeper quality player fields, added prestige to the tournaments and league... I just don't understand that decision.
@ThinkingManShow

Thoughtful Sean; thanks for commenting. We think the Saudi investment model in LIV relies on new global golf gambling money. Gambling built on top of follow-every-shot streaming video coverage that LIV owns. The streaming video coverage will likely have a paid premium tier offering more shot-tracking data to gamblers. 18 holes with no referees to manipulate outcomes offers a unique betting experience in all of sport. $2-3 billion startup capital could seem like a bargain.

@ThinkingManShow
@ThinkingManShow 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good take Sean. Selling the TMRW idea to the rest of the star players (like Spieth) might be easier without using one's initials in the name. The other side one could argue is that the biggest stars are "committed to making it work" evidenced by "putting our name on it". Your theory is more probably correct however given that Tiger has no second thoughts about claiming dominance over all others. Probably never occurred to Tiger that his name could possibly be a negative (ever). Rory just along for the ride and continuing to star gaze at Tiger.

@@ThinkingManShowits just seeing moves like this that you let you know how desperate the PGA is feeling right now about LIV tour. I dont see this sideshow doing well. It also has to be live for there to be betting on it. Taylormade and others have tried skill challenges before. It's not compelling to watch. The best part of it is getting to see the players actual personality, but I'm not going to watch for that. The reason golf is compelling is cuz thr closer to the end it gets the harder each shot is to execute. Golf doesn't get more compelling than that. I dnt care what shots rory can hit on the range... Jan 2024 is still a long way off, so it wouldn't even surprise me if this ended up not happening at all, it could mainly just be a ploy to get less players to jump ship to LIV. Rory has been lying all year and flip flopping, so why would that change now? The lesser known PGA Tour players shouldn't trust him IMO.

He could make 25-30% of his putts outside of 15 feet, a freak achievement even among the best in the world.. Golf is now in a very unique spot in history, The Technology exists to have Simulated Golf courses in every school in America. The School just needs a 12 x 12 x 12 room and a GCQuad, or a Trackman or any of the other half dozen golf simulators that are on the market now, that are getting cheaper and better every year. I can only imagine how that would grow the game of golf… it could be a major advantage for mining Golf Talent, from elementary school all the way up to high school and even at the college level. It would be wonderful if we had a collaboration between the PGA and other Golf Lovers to help create and fund the initiative to get golf in every school district or .... Every School. We have the technology to do this now. Imagine if during gym class you take the kids to the simulator, two or three at a time, have them hit 10 to 12 golf balls, and see who naturally can hit the sweet spot, who naturally has very good distance, etc. You could identify natural golf talent at a early age, just like we do with other sports like basketball, football etc. I could also imagine that golf club companies like Titleist, Cobra and Mizuno might want to say that the school district uses our clubs it can produce the same kind of buzz and passion that happen with basketball shoes back in the late 70s and early 80s

What fascinates me about the pro-Liv supporters is how most of them spend more of their time criticizing the PGA Tour instead of promoting their product in positive ways. Logic would dictate that IF you have a truly groundbreaking, and innovative product that the bulk of your time (if not all of it) would be spent promoting your own product.

It isn't their product. If that were correct, I'd be the first to agree. Problem is it is the PGA that is doing really stupid but understandable at an animalistic level (I'm threated, I'm going to lash out, etc.). That's what these guys are talking about. I have nothing against the PGA but they are shooting themselves in their feet and probably other body parts. At least the PGA hasn't shot itself in the head ..... yet!

Merge LIV & PGA Just like NFL and AFL Play head to head, top 30-40 at the end of the year play elimination golf. Maybe 5-6 tournaments. Whittle it down to say 12 on each side then play a Ryder Cup event to prove which side is best. Then the team that wins , players go head to head to see who’s the best. No made up drama, best of the best playing it out to prove who actually is. No BS handicap score as I. The FedX Cup. Straight up golf with rules we all understand.

TMRW is piggybacking on the LIV and all the publicity from the PGA war against the LIV and all of that fallout, good and bad. It's the most exciting thing I've seen in Golf since Tiger Woods hit the scene. And it is about money. Personally, anytime I see a pro golfer and I'm curious, like he wins a tournament, the first thing I do is to look up the tournament payouts. No question about it, and why not? I see these young players, like Cameron Champ, a long ball hitter, only been on the tour for four years I think now. He is only 2nd in Driving Distance to Rory McIlroy in 2019 and 2020 and I think he's in the top 10 in 2021 and 2022. He's also the pro at a local golf course where he helps kids that can't afford golf, to get the opportunity. If I'm a teenager and looking at the career winnings of the young players on the PGA Tour, I'd be looking for a way to get in on it. Translates to more young people playing Golf. Then you see upcoming players like Micah Morris, 5 foot 8 inches and hits the ball as far as Rory and Cameron Champ. Gives me hope! I've been 5' 8" for a long time. I'd like to hit anywhere close to 300'. Used to hit my longest drive around 210. Now at 65 I think I could hit it 250 yards plus with all the great instruction out there that was not accessible decades ago. The amount of money these young PGA pros are making is fantastic. Imagine a guy in his mid to late twenties making $7.5 Million in just four years! Wow!

LIV has not said anything about virtual (thus far) and that is interesting. We also suspect virtual golf won't do well with gamblers in general because it's a computer that can be manipulated to produce a certain result. If virtual golf fails TMRW can simply change to another format. They didn't create the company to make a couple of extra dollars. They're doing it to take over the PGA Tour over time.

@ThinkingManShow
@ThinkingManShow 2 жыл бұрын
Gerry Swaim.............thank you for adding your thoughts. How do you figure TMRW is not competition for the PGA Tour? It is not competing for tournaments (true if that's your angle), it's going to compete for control of the PGA Tour itself (that's our point). Think of TMRW as a couple of new board members on the PGA Tour's board of directors. With success and profitability, TMRW will have support and loyalty from the top players. With that support and loyalty, a friendly or hostile takeover (if needed) of the Tour becomes an option for TMRW. The PGA Tour is helpless without the support of the top players. That is why the Tour folded so quickly in its fight against LIV and added hundreds of millions of dollars to tournament purses - in a blink.
@gerryswaim5650

@@ThinkingManShow That money added to the players, who already make a great living, just means less for the charities the PGA HELPS. Yes, if all any of the golfers are about is more and more money, then destroy the PGA and all hail the Saudi's. I've been watching golf since Arnold Palmer was a you man and have loved the charity aspect. I just think that anything that has been that great for that long should not have to die simply because the Saudis have money to throw away. And I also think it is extremely cynical to believe Tiger and Rory are just out for money at the expense of the tour. They could be just helping the PGA survive.
@ThinkingManShow
@ThinkingManShow 2 жыл бұрын
Gerry S..........understood. Tiger has no track record of helping anyone but Tiger. We are making a business observation that he is not doing TMRW to help anyone other than himself. That's just who he is; good or bad is in the eye of the beholder. Business interests and charity do not have to be at odds. Arnold Palmer started the PGA Tour for money; specifically to take money away from the PGA of America and deliver it to the players. You know this as it sounds as if you watched it happen in 1968. Why does pro golf need to have only one "league" in all the world? Why didn't the PGA Tour welcome competition from LIV Golf and rise to the occasion? It could have but it folded almost immediately when LIV had staged only 2 tournament; ever. Why did the Tour feel it needed to do that? If the Tour was an ideal place to work, no one would leave or elect to play with a competitive league.

You guys need to go for a long walk in the daylight😁 and not let your imaginations run wild. You asked a question - why did Jack and Arnie setup the structure to run the PGA Tour? It's very simple - it's a lot of hard, time consuming, boring work to run the Tour, and the players would rather focus on playing golf, designing courses, building their legacies etc. That's why Jay Monahan and the rest exist to take the day to day work of running the business on behalf of the players so they can focus on their priorities. Golf needs to evolve so that it remains relevant to existing and future golfers and viewers while retaining and protecting its history and traditions. If professional golf descends into 'Hit and giggle golf ' then Tigers and every players legacy becomes worthless and its simply about the money and just another niche sport. The game would then become less attractive to sponsors, and without them professional Tour Golf would not survives as we know it.
@ThinkingManShow

No question the only reason they've done a 180 on the wraparound season and now much bigger money to the players - including travel expense reimbursement - is LIV. Perhaps effective defense but they need proactive offense as well. This TMRW Sports separate company that investors and players own is likely the bigger threat to the PGA Tour continuing to exist as-is.
