Deep-sea researchers have completed the first full-size digital scan of the Titanic, showing the entire wreck in unprecedented detail and clarity, the companies behind a new documentary on the wreck said Thursday.
Using two remotely operated submersibles, a team of researchers spent six weeks last summer in the North Atlantic mapping the whole shipwreck and the surrounding 3-mile debris field, where personal belongings of the ocean liner’s passengers, such as shoes and watches, were scattered.
Richard Parkinson, founder and chief executive of deep-sea exploration firm Magellan, estimated that the resulting data - including 715,000 images - is 10 times larger than any underwater 3D model ever attempted before.

Imagine what it must have been like to listen to and watch the huge hulking ship heave rise and split apart as the ship hit the sea floor traveling at an incredible speed. All these years later the wreck is still so deep into the sea floor. Then pitch black night freezing cold and the ship is literally gone. Must have been just hard to believe. May all the lost souls Rest In Peace.

@jupitersailing

You'd need to prove 'souls' exist, and then you'd need to prove they were hanging out around an icy shipwreck, desperate for a rest. Then you'd need to make one materialise so it could vouch for what you say, that it did exist but was busy resting. I wouldn't get started with all that Yankee god bollocks if I were you, they are so demented with it there in the US that they'll bore you to death inside 5 minutes. Just try to stay a safe distance from them.

Funny how nobody says that about anywhere else that claimed many more lives. Those souls I'm pretty sure are chillin, and likely don't mind photographs being taken every 15 or so years. There's an absolute ton of misinformation about this event and having this scan provides vital factual forensic information that helps redeem those poor souls who were demonised. Surely that's also helping put some to rest now

The more technology and findings what we thought happened that horrible day may very well change. It won't change the number lost or the fact that it sank but we might find new informationon the how and why (as well as could it have been prevented). History is a mixture of facts and possibly different perspectives from witnesses with best info available. The more we learn the closer the truth. Totally amazing I agree.

@@nunah7977 With the technology (or lack of) of the day, highly doubtful the outcome would be different. It is highly doubtful that anything learned from the Titanic would benefit us today, with the ability to monitor weather, along with GPS navigation, sonar, radar, etc. Not only that but few people tranverse the oceans, compared to 1912, on ocean liners. The truth, however, may satisfy people's curiosities.

What if such an assist ship steered the iceberg INTO the TITANIC? At least it should have verred the iceberg AWAY, preventing a colision. If they didn't have an escort in the Artic Sea of Icebreakers, at least one, but they had them, why not use the Icebreaker technology?😮

Why do we think anything they have told us is true? I heard that they really used that ship (old) that looked like the Titanic and sank it for insurance and probably to kill off the men who were working on shutting down the federal reserve. I don't believe a damn thing people are showing. This video is fake.

In those days ships safety was determined by the Captain. As this was the first big tragic event, there had been no need for icebreakers up till then. The skippers knew the route, and captain Smith did have knowledge that there were large " Growlers", so he changed course to bypass them. Unfortunately this particularly large iceberg, had drifted further down south than usual, and directly on the new course set by Smith. He thought they would clear the ice pack so he kept speed on. 1st Officer Murdock swiftly took evasive action, but even though he glanced the berg, and cleared the mid/stern danger, the damage was done. He did not have time to consider alternative actions like aiming the bow head on. After the accident there were patrol ships that monitored the ice areas

Yes, I couldn't remember the name of Olympics the older ship that looked like the Titanic. I think it was sunk on purpose for insurance and to kill off the gentlemen bringing down the federal reserve who were on the ship.

A lot of useless words,because the area damaged by the iceberg,is under the sand. Event with the 3d model you can't see it. Some researchers,did use sonar back in the days,for see the damaged area

Why is there no huge gash running the length of the ship on one of the sides if it was sliced full length by an iceberg? The skin on both sides look normal. It had water tight compartments from front to back. The majority of the ship is intact except where it broke in two pieces after striking the bottom! The watertight compartments were obviously there to do there job on this majority main section of the ship! It should never have been able to sink without the vast majority of them being damaged! Survivors never saw any iceberg they said! There was much more going on here than an accident!
@johnrogers9481
@johnrogers9481 11 ай бұрын
I believe the gash is on the starboard side and is below the sea floor level, as the ship sank deeply into the ocean bed. Also, each compartment was not like a totally sealed box. The bulkheads or walls between compartments went up only so high. The water weight pulled the frony of the ship down and water filled and then spilled over into the next behind compartment!

@dovetonsturdee7033 11 ай бұрын
Actually, most survivors saw the iceberg. What makes you think that they didn't? The ship was designed to float with four watertight compartments compromised. Unfortunately, at least five, and possibly even six, were damaged.

what about moving the huge pile of sand away from the impact point to see weather or not she was torpedoed or if she hit an ice berg or if she was sunk on purpose.
