I’ve always wanted to do metal detecting but I feel like I’d end up doing it a few times and then it would get longer and longer between times of doing it until I eventually stopped, so I’ve never bought one. That being said this was a great video, well explained and you seem like a top bloke! Thanks

Thanks TTS, If you know someone with a detector or find a local club dig you could have a go with one. Or if there is a bigish rally near you or that you could get to some manufacturers will let you borrow on to try. I know that XP and Regton Ltd that supports me will do this. If you do decide to purchase one, you can use my 10% discount code SSDISC at the Regton Ltd checkout (on most items). Or ring Regton, let them know I put you in touch with them and they will give you advice on which detector would suit you. Good luck.

Just bought the 200i. The 400i was too expensive for me. Thanks for your video it explained a lot. I'm kinda wondering where I can do it now since I know the land behind my house is an SSSI and that the park near us doesn't permit it (it's in their FAQs). So I guess i'm going to be hunting around my own garden for a bit lol.
@SuffolkSifter Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. Do you have a beach near by? Most beaches can be detected. Or do you have a metal detecting club local to you? Take a look of Facebook for organised digs near you, for around £20 you can have a days dig. There are several big rallies over the year, Detectival and Rodney Cook Memorial rally to name just two.

People do use them, but personally I would get a mainstream brand, even if it is second user. Maybe a Garrett, or Simplex. Depends on your budget, I use an XP Deus 2, there are some good deals to be had on the older Deus 1, or even the cheaper simpler to use XP ORX.

@SuffolkSifter3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, Many thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it. Garrett is a great brand and the 200i is a good entry level model. It should get you into metal detecting. I started off with a Garrett ACE 250, that got me into the hobby. When you are truly 'hooked', then maybe think about upgrading to a higher model? @@SuffolkSifter thanks for the reply. I've always wondered what lies beneath where we walk especially near where I live (not far from you in suffolk) in North West Essex where it is extremely rich in history with nearby Hedingham Castle and Colchester further to the east so the garret 200 is a starting point I suppose. I only asked as going on the horrifically inflated prices of many, I just wondered if the 200 was woefully inadequate for the job but I'm happy with it as a starting point at least. I have a friend who is quite experienced in the art so will try and learn from him. Thanks again
@SuffolkSifter3 жыл бұрын
@@ianross04 - Going out with a buddy is great, you will learn a lot. You don't have to spend the earth on a detector, you may well decide to upgrade after a while. @@SuffolkSifter Sour grapes? Poor sports? Upset over not winning? These are the people that I do not want to associate with! Win, lose, or draw I give credit to everyone and my comments are about how I feel about that person on that video. I think I have only given one or two thumbs down in all the years I have been on you tube and they were on people that said it was OK to trespass and when caught ask forgiveness. My comments would always be to ask permission first never forgiveness after. I guess when I get set up in our new home I will start posting my help video, then hunt videos. I went out yesterday in 91 degree temps! I was soaked in sweat! I did find one fired US Civil War .58 cal three ringer bullet, a bent up percussion cap, three small round balls (maybe from a buck and ball), and a piece of lead that looks like it might be from the back of a US Breast Plate or maybe from a small round belt buckle. Keep making your videos my friend! You are doing a great service to all who watch! ;-)

I know you might have just used those as a demo of some gloves but those don't look very strong to me. They also look like sweat inducers. my advice spend a bit more and get some breathable work gloves with a C or D cut rating.
