I have a 2022 Domane SLR 6 and absolutely love it. Yes it’s not the lightest but I also own a 10 year old Time VXR Carbon everything sub 6 kg rim brake bike. I can average a higher average speed on the Trek whilst enjoying every minute due to unimaginable comfort. Forget the extra few grams and enjoy the ride which is why we work hard to afford and appreciate these bikes

I seem to be spotting this quite a bit. KZbin reviewers come out with commentary entitled eg 'is there still a role for endurance road bikes?', talk about how they might be squeezed between road and gravel but don't really answer their own question. Then, the comments under reviews of the best endurance bikes have plenty of comments like yours indicating there absolutely is!

Is a 300g weight savings a “dramatic” reduction when the prior version was clearly overweight? Isn’t this weight reduction driven mostly(entirely?) by getting rid of the headset Isospeed?

Got a 2016 Domane SLR, specced it up with a bunch of eBay Dura Ace, Mavic R-Sys, some lightweight finishing kit. It's an amazing bike, it cost less than half what a new SLR will cost you, and it weighs 6.6kg. I'm still not sure why anyone would spend $$$ to get a bit of a barge, albeit a slightly lighter, more aero barge.

The domane is not designed to be a lightweight hill climber it's designed for comfort the previous Gen donane was a good 300 grams heavier id say that is a significant weight saving that's nearly a pound. And it not all about weight when it comes to performance I personally prefer a bike that is more robust made with more material and thicker tubing then then extremely light fragile carbon frames with thin ass tubes

These new Trek Disc bikes are still heavy boats for what you pay. $4000-$5000 for a 21-22 lb bike. 7 years ago I bought an Aluminum Rim brake Jamis bike brand new on sale for $500 that weighed 19.8lbs. 2023 Gen 4 SL5 weighs 21lbs with pedals for $4500 plus tax, so over $5000 for a 21lb bike

I thankfully bought my Domane for half the price from Evans Cycle. But if I'm honest with you, it is quite disappointing that it weighs 9ish kg even with the SL6 componentry, and originally, cost north of £3k. Now seeing these new "lightweight" generations coming out and the pricing on it makes me sick and think "who on earth is silly enough to buy this, at that price?" It's just utterly disgusting to hear 10% this, 10% that! But I am not of those of the 10% of the population who can actually benefit from the "10% increase in aero at 45km/h." Like come on! This is greed upon greed, and deception and trying to take peoples hard earned money.

@@ReadyF0RHeady it is actully a whole range of bikes from Al 2 that you mention, then AL 3 Disc which I found a very good entry level bike with Sora and mechanical discbreaks, then AL 4 Disc with Tiagra and hydraulic breaks and then AL 5 Disc with Shimano 105. @@ReadyF0RHeady twoo things: That Trek is a premium brand, even their more basic range, is no argument not talking about the range (you can of course mention they are abit pricy).
