Sadly no that was my initial hope, but it still thinks you are in a cave, so you are unable to place a village square and start a village

How far can you build/explore?

Flying around wise in sandbox mode you can fly anywhere under there. As for building and not dieing, as you can see in the video when I'm a certain distance away from the outside of the cave it lightens to daylight. If you build to the point where it changes and stand on ground you'll die within a couple seconds. You can always have a bed close by in the safe area incase you die while testing how far you can go.
