Definitely sounds like your high idle is kicking in. It happens on all new diesels when cold outside. It is increasing RPMs to keep the engine at proper operating temp. Nothing wrong with your truck.

Correct but there is something wrong with his truck if it’s smoking especially since it’s stock,the DPF should catch any particulate matter and when it dies burn off it does so very clean and turns the soot into fine ash which is alt less harmful to human lungs . His truck smoking is a problem.

High idle is the truck doing a Regen. Won't hurt it at all keeps you from having to go to the dealership when the DPF gets to dirty.

Higher idle isn't an issue, it does that to prevent future issues. A diesel is not supposed to be left idling because it doesn't have a "butterfly valve" on the intake as a gasser would meaning you're dumping more fuel into the engine. Idling constantly can cause an issue known as wet stacking. The higher idle burns more of the fuel the truck would otherwise be wasting.

Mud claws are a very soft tire just keep a eye out had them on a half ton and the truck would be covered in rubber after driving

Definitely go with the delete. Best thing I did on my 6.7. More efficient all around, more power and no more dealing with the def.

On my 17 6.7 they did an update and it frequently high idles now. I bet they put it on when they redid the fuel system. Totally normal for it to high idle in colder temps to get everything hot and the emissions clean. Grab an adapter for forescan, you can turn on how full your dpf is and see it in your gauges. I would avoid the extended warranty and do a delete. Totally different truck deleted. No where near 4K though. About 1800 for a delete pipe and tuner. You can just unplug the egr. Don’t broadcast it though, the epa can find you through social media. Deleting it gets rid of most of the modern problems

Well one problem I'll see about taking the emissions off what happens if they come back in a couple years and enforce it again? With getting the warranty you got everything you can get fixed. Try to stay warm.

I’m guessing the idle thing will be the dpf cleaning. Saves you having to go out and drive it hard to clean it. Surely it’s best to do the warranty and play it safer and then delete it later down the line, at least the truck will be covered for now if you go warranty

This is just my opinion as a heavy diesel mechanic that works on these things daily,delete the entire truck , trade it in , your usage is not what the 6.7 is designed for,it’s built to run on the road not stop and go all day. Grab a 7.3L gas engine,and don’t look back. The 6.7 has fuel system issues and your having one now as evidenced by the smoke. You idle way too much for a diesel,it’s ramping up on its own because your letting it idle which is bad for it it runs too cool at idle. If you keep the truck do not delete it , deleted trucks are illegal to use on road even though you may no longer have emissions testing it’s still illegal and technically your extended warranty is at risk as well.

It does your DPF regeneration when RPM’s going up and it stinks. It uses your DEF fluid to do it and it’s been done usually when you are driving, so you are not noticing, but it can still kick on if the time for it to be done when you are idling it and also you can notice little bit of white hot smoke. It is all normal.

Sounds to me like it’s just speeding up because of cold weather. Our diesel does that when left idling and it’ll go down when I hit the break

Yeah they have a high idle feature to warm up faster in the cold. I traded in my diesel and went back to gas. Short trips and heavy idling are bad for modern diesels ill never buy another one

My gas f250 idles at over 1,000 rpms on a cold start sometimes in the winter it gets close to 1,500 during winter and when warm around 600 in park and in drive with foot on brake at a hair over 500...amazing truck hit 410,000 miles a week and a half ago, can't wait to cut grass again but still 2 more months of winter in Oklahoma I'm so bored🤬!!! Wapacha!

Hey bro... A little insight I'm about a hour north of you and I had mine deleted and tuned for 1600. Another thing and way more important is to get the disaster prevention kit. Those cp4 pumps will always go out. Dont matter which version you have. 400 bucks will save you 10k. Just my 2 cents

EGR delete.... Get a toner. Get one that's adjustable you can set different horsepowers I've got one online I've got mine set on 75 horse additional letter fuel mileage pull anything I want.... Just do some research the guys in Soddy-Daisy are very good they're off highway 27 can't think of the name of the place...

I'd probably get the warranty for the $4K, rather than deleting it. The warranty will cover everything bumper-to-bumper, including DPF/emissions related problems, I would think. It's not like the $20K parts failure was caused by the emissions equipment, was it?

deleted at 50k on my 16 f250 6.7 best think you could do for that truck. Emissions on these trucks is the only weak link. Get rid of it NICK. ZERO PROBLEMS I PROMISE. Make sure the person that does it can reverse the delete when comes time to sell. I paid 800 to have mine put back to compliance before resale. Three grand in my area from my mechanic to buy the parts and do the job( ez link). Ask around in your area quietly and you will find a mechanic willing to do it. Don't make it public known about anything, and don't change your exhaust tip. You need to be as stealth as possible as not to roll coal, especially through town. I went with a 7.3 gas motor after selling my diesel with 425,000 miles on it (deleted after around 50k). Im in the same business you are and it get the job done anything under 50mph. Over 50mph the diesel hands down. The 7.3 gas is different animal over the wimpy 6.2. gas.

If you knew anything about combustion engines you would know that idle time is the worst time for any engine. But you don’t. Secondly, buying an extended warranty and committing to a deductible is at least $5000. If you had any faith in the product itself the provided warranty would suffice. Falling into the extended warranty scam proves to the auto maker that the consumer expects a short lifespan therefore offering a product with a short lifespan. If you spend your money wisely, then take care of your investment as if it were a one million dollar diamond ring, the value in the long run would be as much or more than an extended warranty. Dude who cares what the auto maker thinks. That is completely irrelevant. If you knew anything about diesel trucks you would know they have very expensive repair bills. SG ninja uses his truck as a work truck, it gets used and abused everyday, things are going to break no matter how well you take care of it because parts on a machine don't last forever. If you actually used a machine for work everyday you would see that things randomly break. So it is actually very wise for him to spend 5000 on a extended warranty which could save him from very expensive repair bills in the future. Hell he just had to get a fuel system rebuild that cost 20k on the truck. It wasn't his fault that his pump exploded and sent metal shards through out his fuel system. You never know when something is going to break. Better safe then sorry.

Deleting the emissions is not going to keep you from having injection pump issues. The injection pumps fords use are trash from the get go. Once again, deleting the emissions(dpf, egr, scr) will not keep the truck from having fuel problems, if anything it will make it worse by adding more power.
