I have bolt 2 and mapping is just perfect if you go off route device slowly puts you on the correct route instead just to force you to turn round
@xerckd Жыл бұрын
I absolutely love that. Sometimes I pick an existing route, but like to make little deviations because of construction work, easier traffic, better road surface, better views, to make a shortcut or just because I feel like it... I never have to worry about getting lost.

I got the roam V1 three months ago for only EUR 250 including shipping from their original website, including 3 sensors: speed, cadence and heartrate. I think that's because they want to clear the V1 stock now they have the V2. An absolute smasher of a deal as I wouldn't pay full price for the little hardware changes of the V2. Their software capabilities are the same (summit segments are also on the V1). I was so positively surprised by how easy it is to set up and use and I'm sure I haven't explored all features yet. I still love using it. The screen is large enough for me to see all major data points in one view.

I'm seriously disappointed that they didn't increase the screen size. My eyes aren't what they used to be and I don't want to have to invest $500 in special prescription cycling glasses just so I can read my speed and power. 20% bigger and I would acutally be able to read the thing. (I have astigmatism, btw, so not easily correctible with either contacts or simple "reader" add-ons) Update: in spite of my misgivings, I did end up getting this computer to replace my v1 Bolt and it is a big improvement in many ways. But seriously, Wahoo, come out with a bigger screen that better fits this huge form factor!

As a Garmin user looking to update or change computer, I do not know the purpose of the LEDs on the side? Does the Element indicate the names of the roads (the next one that you are looking to turn into?)
@xerckd Жыл бұрын
By default, the LED's on the led indicate your heart zone with matching LED colors and the top leds are used to "point" your next nav point (left, right, continue) or flash red/green whenever you leave the route and when it respectively found an alternate route that will lead you back to your set route without having to go back to the point you missed. I believe you can set up the LED's to visualise a limited number of other diagnostics, like cadence.

You talked a little about built up environments, I live in Tokyo and I can tell you most bike GPS are rubbish. The Karoo2 is too hard to read (lines going all over the screen trying to follow roads, often I have zero idea which direction it wants) and the old Roam is laggy, it doesn't respond well when zooming in and out of Tokyo and also it sometimes locks up when rerouting. However its my choice as when I am out and what to find a cafe?.. The Karoo 2 cannot do it, even if you give it a wifi hotspot I can never find anything to route to. Useless. And Garmin? Lol no, their international units don't work in Japan and they charge near double for a Japanese unit, and even then its difficult to navigate with one. So its Wahoo by default for me. But honestly if I could just run google maps on a bike GPS with phone grade GPS and hardware I would be far happier.

After my second Garmin Edge 520 died unexpectedly I decided to try something different - the Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt instead of the Garmin 530. Boy! I'm glad I did. kzbin.infoUgkxXZCtB-wGdHVTBSz8RswePK5vllHNi06N The display on the Wahoo Bolt is much easier to read. I like the configuration of the display more (up to 7 items visible on page 1 without scrolling and the first item chosen is larger characters than the next 3 rows that have pairs of items (still very readable). I also like the configurable item selections. The Bolt synced with my Garmin ANT+ Speed sensors on both bikes easily so no additional investment was required there. While the rated battery life is a couple hours less than the Garmin 520/530, I easily get a weeks worth of 1+ hour rides before recharging (and it's never really low on charge). At the end of a ride syncing to the Wahoo app, Strava, and Apple Health app is painless.

Wahoo Roam V2 does not display street names on the map, which is so surprising. Buttons only in 2024, is not good since this prohibits users to enter destination address directly on the unit when you do not have the phone when riding. What is the point of having phone always with the unit. Seems like It has 2015 year SoC/Chip inside, it is a very old hardware. Compared to Garmin 840, this wahoo Roam V2 is no match. Garmin from GPS routing, to POI, ability to enter address on the unit with touchscreen, ability to disable touch and use buttons if required by some users, battery life is longer, health advance stats in Garmin APP, ability to load 3rd party data fields, and more. Routeless ClimbPro is just awesome.

Wahoo are my bike computer brand since 2019 only because they have buttons. The whole experience of changing pages / zooming fields just cannot be compared to fiddly touch screen interface, which is good for the office, but not for bike riding. Especially with gloves and/or mud/rain.

Matt screen, matt screen, matt screen, matt screen (YAWN) matt screen, matt screen, matt screen.. FFS just drop a screen protector on the Garmin and you have a Garmin with a matt screen.. its not rocket science!! And im sorry, but I find that Garmins are much easier to setup than Wahoo… and the Garmin connect app is better and a lot more stable.. USB-C, raised buttons, improved GPS and more colours were much needed, but is it worth upgrading just for this? If I were looking to upgrade I’d probably dip deeper into my pocket and move to a Hamerhead Karoo 2.
