Vanguard and other "experts" have been calling for smaller returns for years.. I give you 2024 and 2025. DO not make any investing decisions on anybody / anyone guessing the future. Everybody knows what to do. Save as much as you can and hold as much equities as you can stomach for as long as you can. The rest will work its self out.

Well said, Goldman Sachs said it's 3% over the next decade. I'm not going to worry about DCA like I do any way.

Goldman just full of shit. If they are so good, they will not lose money on Apple card! They just don’t even know what happens in next year!

I set very conservative assumptions (growth - inflation = 1.35%), and adjust my next year’s budget right about this time of the year based on die broke at 100 (no LTC - rather die than live like that + there will be robots when I am there - mid-50s right now). Most of the year, my budget is higher than I thought - psychological win. Never worry about running out of money. Never worry about underspending. What happens after 100? If I continue to live, it would be off of reverse mortgage.

They will never truly run out of money. If they blow through all of their portfolio, they will still have Social Security. Assuming they have no debts into their 80's and they are no longer in their Go-go years, it should suffice. My one piece of advice for retirement. The first day you retire, get your health, fitness and diet squared away. This will save you hundreds of thousands of dollars in future medical expenses and extend your go-go years and overall lifespan. All the money in the world won't mean squat, if you physically can't enjoy it.

As Ari points out, 10% annual is historical NOMINAL returns. Don't get confused with REAL returns. My approach to investing is to treat my stocks like I would a business. I'm not worried about what the business is worth on the market, increasing or decreasing, as if I intend to sell it. My concern is the cashflow the business generates and returns to me so I can spend it. If you let the market get in between the business and the owner, you are dependent on market returns. I disintermediate the market by focusing on dividends from companies that regularly grow their returns.

Knowing that the plan is not set in concrete is the key to a successful retirement (Financially speaking, that is. I mean you could have $20,000,000 and be miserable). It's human nature when the market does eventually correct, people will cut back on spending. When it continues to correct, people will cut back even more. Almost like a self fulfilling prophesy. The more we are afraid as a society, the less spending we will do, the less profits on the corporate income statement, the less taxes being paid to the government. But for the planner, this is the ideal time to go out and spend on bargain prices! Remember the new car deals available in 2009?

Returns have to go up as will inflation, therefore earnigs will always increase as its relative to inflation. Sure you may not get anotehr Nvdia run on a company or very few will have their gains. I have great returns, so for my own bare minimal rate on my flowchart is 8% while wokring and give myself 5% when retired. Either way ill never run out of money floating off interest and going with the "die with ZERO" plan.

I mean, if the market is such 💩 as Vanguard predicts, we're all in a bad place. The folks who are case studies on this channel will be fine though with 2 mil or 5 mil or wherever they end up, they'll be better off than most.

when you add the long term care component, is that in addition to the base annual spending of the plan? So in this case a base spend of $96000 plus an additional $68000? So $174000 for those last 3 years?

In addition.
