I mentioned that I would lay out the main theory that I had for Vaults 31/32/33. I thought Vault 31 was a scientist-led vault that kept their distance and oversaw/was in control of 32 and 33 to research the effects on humans of a variety of things. And Vault 4 was written in the show to show a different kind of scientist-led community and viewers could compare the two. 32 was the experiment vault, where 31 would force the dwellers to live in various conditions to observe them (starvation, overpopulation, giving them complete freedom of choice, etc). The experiment would change if the dwellers ended up all dying. 31 would mark a failure and start over by replenishing 32 with people from 33, which we saw Betty do that sort of solidified this theory in my head even more. 33 was the "normal" vault with only these goals: repopulating and keeping dwellers happy, friendly, and super cooperative so they would happily go into 32 if the time ever came. The triannual trades with 32 were for 31 to observe if 33 dwellers would ever "pick up on" any odd behaviour from 32 and 33 ws only ever informed of big things like overseers passing. To me, it seemed like the death of the 32 dwellers in this season was not the first time that happened in the history of these three vaults. The only thing that stumped me with this theory was Moldaver's motivation for breaking in and taking Hank, which we now know doesn't have anything to do with the vaults themselves. She just needed someone to punch the cold fusion code in and maybe she knew that the inter-connected vaults was her only option. So perhaps these three vaults ended up being the only Vault-Tec run vaults in California? Anyway, the way that things actually played out is way better than the theory I had! I had also thought of the possibility of Vault 31 simply just being an entrance into 32 and 33 to put in people from the outside, perhaps sent from another Vault-Tec location somewhere else. Then at one point I thought maybe 31 was filled with a bunch of Mr. Handy's. I'm so curious what theories you all had! Let me know below. And thank you so much for watching this with me! Your comments on all of these episodes have made me so happy. Cheers. ❤ kaiielle.com

Don't forget Moldaver has beef with Hank, for nuking Shady Sands. She knew exactly who he was, where he was, and how to get him. But she didn't have the other piece, what Wilzig was bringing to her, in his head. Until she had that, she couldn't trust Hank to give her the real code. She needed to test it live, with him there in the room. The heartbreak for me is that Moldaver appears to have been keeping Rose alive, just to show her the lights turning on and Lucy killed her before it got dark.
@Tijuanabill4 ай бұрын
I think it was strange wording, how Moldaver referred to Hank, in one of her lines. She says, "Your father has been around for a very long time....part of an organization that thought they had the answers to everything." Well, with that wording, that sounds like something other than Vault-Tec. Lucy knows exactly who Vault-Tec is; it's literally written on her shirt, and every object in her home. And Moldaver knows that Lucy knows who Vault-Tec is. So what organization is she talking about? The Enclave? Is that who was watching from the shadows, in the big meeting?
@whysnice47684 ай бұрын
@@Tijuanabill I'm pretty sure she just described Vault-Tec like that. Lucy only thought of Vault-Tec as this good thing that gave them a purpose and a chance to make the world better. Moldaver turned Lucy's entire world upside-down by describing what her father and his awful organisation (meaning Vault-Tec) actually are.

Why Moldaver is surrounded by bloodthirsty raiders to come into Vault 33 only to kidnap Hank in the end is the only plot hole to me (so far; there are still ways to explain it in later seasons I guess) Like she could have been trying to get into Vault 31 instead when the message of the triennial trade with 33 came on the terminals. Or something. It’s the most “mystery box” aspect of the show and the big saving grace of it is that it fits the Fallout lore to a T. Just like in the games, if you think about it too much, it kinda falls apart.
@Tijuanabill4 ай бұрын
@@mikhar I think she was just using the raiders like any good special ops squad would use local "freedom fighters" (gangs/warlords). The raiders were just a distraction, and expendable. She knew all along where Hank was, and how to go get him. But she didn't have the other piece, that Wilzig stole from The Enclave. If she took Hank sooner, then she would have had to keep him alive all these years, or trust he gave her the real password, with no way to verify it.

16:05 To me, it reads that Moldaver is the head of the remnants of the NCR, and that's why she said that everybody knows her in episode 1. And why the surface-born denizens of Vault 4 revere her as "flame mother." She was probably already in the NCR's government, maybe even president, at the time Shady Sands was nuked.

2 things that i noticed on a second watch through of the series. 1) this series has now taken both the earliest and latest timeline spots for the WNC quote. The wife says it days, if not weeks or even months before the bombs drop. Previously a character from F4 was the earliest to say it in the timeline. And Ghoul takes the latest, as the end of this show is the farthest along the timeline we've gotten to see for the whole series. 2) this episode recontextualizes the opening of episode 1. The horror on Ghouls face when he sees the first bomb isnt just the horror of the bomb landing. Its the horror of already knowing who did it.

It is very telling that Mr House (RobCo guy for those who don't know) did NOT go with the vault plan but actually gambled on the surface dwellers. New Vegas is populated by ex-tribals and ex-raiders, because House thought that was the realistic alternative to "vaultdwellers".

Amazingly well-written show, there are hints and foreshadowing layered throughout the whole series. I feel the loose ends were left deliberately. I'm pretty sure they'll show in Season 2 that NONE of the Vaults were actually supposed to really succeed. The offer to share the Vault experiments came from the figure watching the meeting, they were giving Barb instructions. They talk a bit about the reason for the Vaults towards the end of Fallout 2. Without too many spoilers, they were supposed to show which 'method' for society works, after which someone (we can guess who - meeting guy is probably one of them) swoops in, wipes them out and runs with the idea. Even the fully-nuts corporations in the meeting are being manipulated.

Kinda wild how good this was, one of my favourite things is how everyone had their good and bad points. Yes, even Hank. He's a truly shit human being and the worst husband ever but man he's raised two great kids solo so he's sorta weirdly and wildly a good father. Coupes apparently obviously leaning evil but one detail easy to miss so I'll throw it out there - he's dressed like a Fallout 3 regulator. The Ghoul is a lawman. A cannibal, junkie lawman. Positive karma somehow despite the torture and murder which is very Fallout lol. Lucys complete hopeful obliviousness is hilarious but also a massive liability and flaw. That flaw predates her leaving the vault but gets hidden from view as she's the entry point to the series for the audience. She has no idea about the other peoples motives in the vault (unlike Norm) and uses and discards NotBurt like a toy in pursuit of a higher ideal just like Hank would. I could go on forever but ... thanks for the reaction.

But take a close look at the bomb drop scene in episode 1: the observatory shows up in a panning shot. Edit: I can't tell it you realized it, so just in case, Griffith Observatory is a real place. I've visited it.

It's possible my low-key favorite part of this season are Coop's expressions at the end, first when Lucy picks up the gun and it's ambiguous what she's doing with it he looks like he's doing a bit of a trust fall letting her shoot without protecting himself. And then a slight twitch of sympathy or maybe a bit of respect, or a mixture when knows she's learned to do what is necessary and executed her mother. Also I think it's significant that Max says the reason he joined the Brotherhood is to hurt the people who hurt him. The question is whether he sees the responsible party as Hank exclusively or VaultTec collectively. I suspect that he'll focus on VaultTec and lead the Brotherhood in a war against VaultTec. Because when VaultTec repopulates the surface there will be war. I just don't know if that happens in the show or later on in the games. Re: war never changes and interviews Walton didn't know it was the tag line of the series. Interesting theory video that may spoil something in S2: "Is The Ghoul Being Scammed"

It was everything I hoped it would be, and gave me more to think about. I also immediately replayed Fallout 4, and am planning to replay all of the other games (I just wanted to also build a settlement, 'cause I love that stuff). I thought everyone involved did a phenomenal job. The acting, writing, cinematography, effects; it ALL worked. Fallout 4 had a DLC (Automatron?) that involved BrainBots, and dug deeper into why they are not a really great idea.

"The number Hank types in at the NCR compound is 101097 - a callback to the original Fallout's release date, Oct. 10, 1997" And I agree, but it's a shallow nod to lovers of the franchise. There are lore inconsistencies, most prevalent of which is the lore surrounding ghouls, the process of ghoulification, their relationship to radiation, and their need to eat. Bethesda could retcon by simply stating that there are different types of ghouls. Some need to eat, some don't. Some like radiation, others throw up. Some lose their voice and some don't. It's all up in the air still. But I'm not here to rag on Bethesda or Amazon Prime. The series is what it is. It's not a game, it's a TV series. Enjoy it for what it is. And I must admit the cliff hanger at the end has me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait. Did I see a smiley face in the Welcome to New Vegas sign or was that my imagination?

And since they introduced Mr House, it seems natural to assume that he's part of the second season. So the Courier worked with House, but what did they do with the NCR and Caesar? Chet will also have the chance to step up in season 2. He's kinda Norm's only hope, absent Lucy returning or something, and he looked by the end like he might've ended up too conflicted to just pretend he hadn't seen anything in 32.

I really enjoyed watching you watch this show that I loved so much! I've never played the games and I've preferred watching reactors that DID play them more than those who didn't. You are in the minority of reactors that seemed to grasp the reasons why Maximus' sometimes made some hasty and questionable choices. I liked that. You gave his character a chance to get his stuff figured out just like Lucy and The Ghoul were given a chance. You took the show in stride and were enjoying it. Most people are extremely hard on Maximus but not on any other character and it gets frustrating. I've heard some people explain that when playing the game it's sometimes necessary to do something downright bad because of the nature of the Fallout world. I've also heard it said that it's hard to know if you should do something good or something morally questionable in order to simply survive and continue on your mission because it's such a twisted world. Sometimes the right thing to do would normally be a very wrong thing. That's how I saw it when I watched the show even though I never played the game.. and I was rooting for all 3 of our main characters (and Norm and Chester!) to learn and grow. I am SO glad that you were that way during your reactions. It put you in the top 2 of my favorite reactors for this series. Oh! And I loved the sheer joy on your face when you saw that New Vegas skyline in the final scene! ❤ I also watched your gameplay from New Vegas and it was really interesting seeing the choices offered to your character! Maximus yet *again* acting before assessing the situation. 🤦♀ No! We do *not* want Hank out of his cage!! **grumbles frustratingly** 😒 19:05 - Hank actually thinks his point is proven when Lucy pulls a gun on him? He ust KO'd her guy, and the reveal of Hank being behind the nuclear bombing of Shady Sands, killing over 30,000 people in a jealous fit after his wife, Rose, leaves him with their two children in tow, and are found to be living happily in a booming city that didn't need Vault-Tec to thrive. 🤨 19:15 - Epic entrance once again! 🤭 22:42 - Stimpak?..Hello? 🤕 23:37 - Deathclaw skull!! 😮 23:44 - I had the exact same surprised/giddy look the first time I saw that New Vegas skyline! 🥳😳🤓😜😃

There were a few control vaults that were supposed to run as advertised... Things often broke down anyways but they did exist. There were also a few vaults with special roles, like supervising the other vaults, that the people lived pretty well in

I have watched the entire season 3 times; and more reactions than I can count. Fallout New Vegas is my second favorite Fallout game. But New Vegas as part of season 2 makes perfect sense. You missed a significant Easter egg for Fallout 4 New Vegas, at 23:57. 23:57 took my breath away

About the revelation that VaultTec dropped the bomb themselves, I don't personally think it's exactly what's being 'confirmed' there, just that they WOULD have done so if needed. There have been computer entries and other bits of lore in the games before (esp Fallout 2) suggesting one faction or another including the Enclave planned to start the nuclear exchange themselves, but they ended up being caught off guard by the war just starting on its own (maybe by China?) before those factions were ready.
@RocketSurgn_4 ай бұрын
Also, if your patreon members haven't already said the Enclave started from a hard line 'shadow government' faction within the US government including much of the top officials and President, rather than the overt US Government itself. They do want to be 'their' version of what they were trying to make the US into, but were even more hard line than the pre war government was. They had bunkers around the country they planned to evacuate their people into before the war started, so they could use it as a chance to create their dream society, but because they were surprised by how soon it started. The unnamed person in the shadows of the VaultTec meeting (in the Dr Stranglove room) might have been an enclave rep, it seems very possible they are setting up that VaultTec was working with the Enclave, so the plans to 'drop the bombs' were actually cooperative. That would also explain the Enclave scientists being able to work with the Cold Fusion device that's only supposed to be usable by 'trusted vault tec' folks.

I loved watching through this series with you. Loved the clips at the end. I know you're playing through Jedi Survivor right now but any thoughts on doing another Fallout play through? I'd love to see you play through 3, 4, or New Vegas again. Much love ❤
@kaiielle4 ай бұрын
It's tricky. After Survivor I want to play the Red Dead games. Then by the time I'm done those, both Star Wars Outlaws and Dragon Age Veilguard will have been out for a few months and I reaaaaaally want to play both of those sooner rather than later. Then the Alan Wake/Control games are high on my list along with the Horizon games. 😂 Too many games, not enough time. I need some offline games too, and FO 3 and 4 were planned for that. IDK what to do. 😂

I totally get it, I've got similar issues and I'm not even streaming! Stream the games you planned to stream and enjoy Fallout in your free time :)

This show is written so well, nearly everything is pitch perfect. The things I want for season 2: NCR is found out to be weakened, but very much still around, possibly fractured into several sub-factions, which are now at war with the brotherhood of steel. I think we are going to get a new vault in the New Vegas area that Barb(and daughter), and the vault tech upper management are in, like the shadowy guy in the upper level watching the corporate meeting (and seemingly giving Barb orders) Vault Tec's CEO/owner maybe? more creatures, like super mutants, and deathclaws Lucy needs to find a "failed" vauilt to really drill home to her, that vaults like hers are the exception, not the rule. Finding out how Cooper became irritated to begin with, perhaps he brought his daughter to a vault, and they refused to let him in? but they let his daughter in, and he expected to die, but turned instead? so he basically "acts" out his character IRL, until it becomes habit.

I've enjoyed your commentary! I wanted to mention some influences for Fallout in general and this series in particular. If you want to get into the whole post-nuclear apocalypse thing, you should check these out. First, films: A Boy and His Dog (1973), Mad Max (1979) and it sequel The Road Warrior (1981), and in the case of this particular TV series, Dr. Strangelove (1964). As for the video games, they definitely took ideas from a couple of preceding games from Interplay and other studios, notably Wasteland (1988). Other people here could probably add to this list. This of course is not to mention all of the stuff from the late '50s and early '60s that influenced the whole vibe of the game world (cheesy science fiction films from that era, especially).

Without that chip how can they process all that urine back into clean water? Oh, wait. Vault 32 still has a water chip. Do you suppose they will share? I wouldn't count on it. Maybe Betty isn't as smart as she thinks. That is unless she has pulled a water chip switcheroo on the new occupants. Can't wait to find out.

Another thing in the game they added is dialogue stopping everything in the background which is what I like to think is what happened when the ghoul was talking to the brotherhood. I also tried playing NV and 3 only to be met with crashing so I went to 4 where it’s not as much.I think that monster would have to be shown because that’s how entertainment is, if they focus on something, it must be used at some point. 9:05 Afaik, all the vaults mentioned here are vaults you can find in the games. 9:35 Literal lore bomb drop too. lol 9:48 Did you miss Barb here? 16:40 Not quite the same but FO3 had a planetarium, as well as a few satcom arrays. 18:10 Wilzig warned her. In the end, she became a different animal altogether and ends up wanting something different compared to when she started her journey. I'm sooooo stoked for the Cooper & Lucy team-up. Not sure if I'd rate this show over Arcane or The Boys though.

The Elder who wanted to start new Brotherhood with Maximus, he was in the first wave. Does it mean he died? Who were the other Vault-Tec people in the background and in the shadows we did not see? Will Thaddeus become a ghoul or rather a super mutant? And Vault 31 is said to be for the younger management, so which vault do the core Vault-Tec occupy then? Is Norm going to comply or threaten Bud? Maybe Chet will grow a pair and go find his buddy, but his wife will be a problem. Will there be a revolution in the vaults? Will Maximus blame Lucy for her father's actions? And what does Hank want in New Vegas? It was said there are cryo suites. Will there be deathclaws, radscorpions, geckos and more wildlife? So many cliffhangers and things to think about.

Of the inventions in Fallout universe, this show had Cold Fusion, The Ghoul process, Cold Storage (aka Fallout 4), and living in a vault or surface. What is missing is the Cloning. I think Moldaver is cloned and that's how she lived so long. I also think Dane is a young Moldaver clone. She is manipulating Maximus while staying in the shadows (mostly).

Also Moldaver before the war was always in the Hollywood cemetery. A possible place where the rich would probably always want to try to live and look fabulous forever.

We also got super mutant (i think the hand of the humanoid on the trolley in the enclave lab early on in the series), robobrains, serums and other chems/substances, we see a junk jet, and cybernetics on the mechanic girl. Sure theres others. They did a great job looking into the games for reference.

re-watching there’s definitely some issues to nit pick, but that doesn’t negate the fact it is a great show. One thing I noticed is that during the scene of Lucy going to the elevator, they specifically had to show us her pressing number 12 on the keypad right after telling her not to go there twice and I just think that was a little too dumbed down for no reason they should’ve ended that scene with her side profile and her pressing the keypad, but we couldn’t see which number and we had to put the pieces of the puzzle together ourselves rather than be shown like a child. She pressed 12 we all knew what she was going to do anyway so there was no real need to do that. And that’s what I mean by nit pick its just little issues or the fact, they brought up the water chip, but then completely ignored it I’m pretty sure we didn’t see anyone go and fix that.

24:00 If you go back, all the music in this show is 1940's-1960's pop, and all the songs are featured in Fallout 4. In F:NV, all the music was country and/or western, or at least western-themed (don't @ me). If there is one little thing that bugs me about the show, it's that they basically transplanted the visual and audio style of Fallout 4 into the Fallout 1/2/NV setting, where it doesn't belong. I mean, jeez, Coop is a goddamn *cowboy.* Play some goddamn cowboy music. I assume they did this to appeal to Fallout 4 players.
