It's to spread the weight of the machine on a larger area, to prevent compacting the soil.

+Vera Nagelhout A 900/60R42 tire has a higher footprint than 480/95R50 duals, has the same combined width, is cheaper, it's lighter and can be operated at lower pressure than the dual. So I can't understand why you americans want only skinny duals and triples.

Rosen Ignatov Thats called 'Crab steering' this enables the machine to drive with all six tires along each other, for minimal grond compaction to save te soil.
