MG4 the ID2 will not be here for two years, and it will cost a lot more than everyone predicting. It will be starting at £32,000 if you want wheels, paint , etc It will be nearer £40k.

It won't be cheap in the UK. VW wouldn't allow it. The Ora cat was supposed to be around £25k and then BMW got involved and it's now £32k+.

Same here in the Volkswagen homeland.... The pricing of Volkswagens is pretty much shameless. But I think German manufacturers have to learn it the hard way. The Chinese manufacturers are able to produce almost equal quality for a much more affordable price. And that makes the MG4 the better ID.2.

@@almac9203 Fair enough, but technologically they have caught up to the Germans for sure. Amongst German car brands there’s a certain ignorance and arrogance towards EVs which makes them run laps behind. And at least I think: if you are in the market for a new EV, every buck you are able to save counts if you get a comparable (or maybe better) car for your buck. But I agree with you: Environmental, political and social issues are a big problem in China.

This car has restored my faith in VW. I was going to update my Golf 7 to the 8 but was appalled by the lack of physical controls for climate and volume. The ID3 did not appeal either, because it looks nothing like a VW inside or out. But this new ID2 is a return to form. It has the classic aesthetic feel of a Polo, and the tech of a 21st century car. It’s great to see VW back on track.

So by the end of 1974 people were still flabbergasted by the fresh appearance of this new car. From first introduction up to first sales didn't last longer than only 6 months. Which pretty much seems like "overnight", to the potential buyers back then. A very good marketing strategy it was. I'm sorry that people have to wait for the possible ID2 All for 3 bloody years. I take it you understand the difference between the Golf story and the ID2 introduction. VW sales division totally lost track.

For most buying such a small car 200 miles will be more than enough. And by 2026 the charging infrastructure has hopefully improved substantially. If you take a longer trip of 300-500 km 2-3 times a year and need to top up once or twice along the way, is it really a problem worth fuzzing about?

@@reececollison5101 The range of your petrol/diesel car is irrelevant. I don't think you've once worried about how much further you can get on your tank of fuel. Unless you're in the middle of the desert, it's a non-issue. The only reason it matters for EVs is if you don't have a means of charging the car at home, overnight. And, if you frequently travel long distances (more than your battery allows for), meaning you will be reliant on public charging infrastructure. Which means, long wait times at crowded service stations while your car charges up. If you typically drive under 200 miles per day, and can charge at home, the ID.2 will be more than adequate for many people. Same goes for pretty much every EV on the market today. Even a lot of PHEV's can get by on pure-electric range with a typical, UK commute.

It’s definitely not all that often, but the point is my car can handle 100% of journeys I need it to do. What’s the point of trading it in for a car that’s more expensive to buy that can only handle 95% of the journeys I need to make?

Probably the best looking of the IDs (except the Buzz), it has much more character than the bland ID3/4/5. It surely has potential to take raise the game, especially if they’ve fixed the interior and software glitches. Early ID buyers may wish they’d waited!

I have a polestar 2 long range, I have come to realise range is generally not that important if you don’t have long commutes. I’m actually getting more interested in these shorter ranged but cheaper cars. I would today much rather have quicker charge and smaller battery.

I did like the glimpse of an original Polo style dials dashboard graphics, a clever VW retro touch. The smaller E-Up is £23k new. We have one and an MG4 so genuinely interested by this. If this larger, longer range, more powerful Polo sized ID2 is launched at £22k, I’ll eat my hat. Does no one remember the pre launch pricing suggestions for the ID3, Model 3 and others?!

I love my id.3 and have absolutely no complaints about it - BUT I love this car. Range, price, boot space and interior design are spot on. I much prefer the look of the id.3. This looks a little old fashioned in comparison - externally. VW need to move very quickly to get this to market or pretty soon or it’ll be outclassed before it even launches. Things move very fast in electric car world!

Looks a whole world of improvement from previous efforts. Certainly inetrior and the slick user interface. The centre infotainment control wheel I think lifted from BMW - but no issues there. Pricing? There is big gap in difference in 'anticipating' and actual pricing in VW-land. I recall the ID Buzz being 'targeted' in the high £30'sk - or less than 40k. What is it now? Don't think you get any change - if any - from £60K . I 'anticpate ' this not less than £28k to 30k in reality. Which would make it no more than marginally of interest. Let's see .

0:42 the ID3 was the start? How about the Up and the slightly unknown car, the GOLF? Both, eUp and eGolf are great cars, and there are many of them still beloved and wizzing around Europe. Even the batteries (today on the smaller side) were quite adequate when new, other brands had much smaller ones…

Looking at at first glance the ID 2 wins hands down but in the video it looks like it’s the top of the range version from VW . Wondering what the specs are on the base model and no doubt have the smaller battery pack which I think will put a lot of people off . All being said it’s a very big step in the right direction for VW

Definitely. I'm doubtful that any car is going to be soft touch fabric and velour at that base price. Expect much of it to be replaced by scratchy plastic. Probably have to drop a lot more money for some stupidly priced executive long range model to see any of that..

Sounds great, but there is no way this will be price anywhere near £22k. I’m guessing £30k for the smaller batter and £35k for the bigger battery ( the ID3 is basically £40k now, so they won’t make the ID2 too cheap otherwise they would never sell ID3 or ID4 )

I also think that this will cost above 30k if you choose all options...but the ID3 is easily close to 60k with full options. Means it would be still much cheaper than ID3, which starts at 42k € at the moment...12k difference is a lot in this price range

I love the ID. 2. Much more VW. A pair of round headlamps and it’d be even better! I especially like the Beetle-style or 80s-style instrument display options. I mean why have a screen if you can’t play around with it and have a bit of fun? A very odd thing is the choice of a 60/40 split rear bench with the 60 side behind the folding front passenger seat. Would it be more versatile to have the very long load lefty that this offers and still keep seating for 3 rather than 2? Seems odd to me…

looks absolutely amazing.... but im affraid how a toned down serial production version will look like... smaller wheels, more basic and bare interior with "naked" plastic trims, there is almost no naked plastic trim in the concept = really cozy looking cabin, absolutely love it, also no gloss black trim, at least some physical HVAC for temperature....

Interesting that VW plans to place the battery pack under the bonnet... A small petrol engine weighs approx 100-120kg. Roughly speaking, 10kWh of lithium ion batteries weighs 100kg, so even the smallest 38kWh battery VW plans to put in this iD.2All would likely weigh around 350-400kg. Oh my goodness, the understeer during cornering will be MAHOOSIVE...!! 😵

This is wrong...the batteries are in the floor, like for any MEB car...it has a front motor, which is unusual for MEB, which has normally a rear motor in ID3/4/5 and now ID7.

Also, it will very likely use LFP batteries so at the size it is, I can almost guarantee that it won't have an official figure any higher than 180-200 miles. My MG4 standard range is a bigger car and has a 51KW LFP battery. It's official range is 218 miles.

Heads rolled when the ID line was launched. It was such a departure from typical VW styling and quality and thankfully, backfired. The last CEO was obsessed with chasing Tesla and woke advertising and changing the VW brand identity, when no one asked for it at all. I’m glad they saw sense. So much MK1 and MK4 golf in this design. Interior looks a work or art, and they’ve covered otherwise hard scratchy plastic in micro fibre to add to the element of quality.

For sure not...most likely cheaper LFP, since you will never achieve this price with latest technology. Perhaps you will see the Solid State in 2028, when they exchange the MEB+ with the SSP...and more likely in expensive cars from Audi and Porsche.

As a huge VW fan, I’m a little worried 2025 is too late. The ID4 and 5 are out of ‘the people’s’ financial reach, to a certain extend that also goes for the ID3. Most sales are lease. The factory worker however doesn’t get a lease; he/she needs to cough up dough. Meanwhile European governments are pushing people out of combustion engines with higher taxes on fuel and ownership. So within now and 24 months the big switching will start. And VW won’t have anything to offer. That’s something that should keep them from sleep in Wolfsburg.

SO, if it is slightly larger than modern Polo but smaller than Golf, it is then larger than Mk4, maybe even Mk5 Golf. New Polo is almost exactly same size that Mk4 Golf was. This size makes it perfect for me. Also, it looks like a ... Polo or Golf. And me personally, i have had all of the models until Mk8 (that i sold quickly, i specially liked Mk7.5 GTE).
