I am so fed up with all the car manufactures giving us what suits them and not what “we” want. I do not want everything on a touch screen. It’s dangerous fiddling about while driving.

The name always makes me smile. It's named after the nomadic tribe that lives in the Sahara, but Touareg in Arabic means Godforsaken.

It would be good if you also mentioned whether this car or other cars have or do not have heated radar and safety systems, like you did with the heated sprinkler system.

You do know if the screen siwtches to anything but the apple carplay screen you was on, you can just touch anywhere on the screen and apple car play will be resumed. You dont have to select the tiny app connect icon...... maybe actually learning the software before making silly criticisms.

I always enjoy what car reviews, however I am often frustrated by the lack of numbers. How far will this car go on battery power if you buy the hybrid? How long is the car, especially for a big beast like this. It may not mean too much, but what is the boot capacity? And most importantly, you don’t actually mention the price on the video. Apologies if it comes up on the screen, but I am totally blind so wouldn’t be able to hear it. I’m debating whether to buy a big posh SUV like this, or just to buy a Kodiak. I’d save myself a big chunk of change, and how much would I actually gain in terms of boot space from the Guide Dogs and so on.

Why, even with a digital dashboard, are the Speedo markings at 20, 40, 60, 80 etc instead of 10, 30, 50, 70 to align with UK limits? This really infuriates me. Also the car, like so many, is simply too wide for UK roads, parking spaces and garages (I must be one of a few who still uses my garage to park my car in)
@ViewBothSides

yes, interesting isn't it. Germany has a fundamental challenge with software which means they're seriously under-represented in global developments. It's due to a continuing dominance of "engineering", where 20,40,60 sounds more logical to someone who's frankly clueless about usability but doesn't know it. Plus German management think they can manage the software development without ever looking at the product.

Yes the Q7 and X5 are similar budget wise…but if you want all the functionality/tech you get as STANDARD for that price on the VW then you’ll be paying way more on the Audi and BMW

@beatles4sale2007 9 ай бұрын
Considering the Q7 came out in 2015, and you can pick up a 3 year old one for £35K on AT (and get 7 seats) I’m not sure really what a 70+ grand VW based on a 9-10 year old platform, is targeted at? And like all German brands this obsession with haptic, piano black, fake exhausts and touchscreens is mildly annoying. Not for me I am afraid….good review though, covers the bases for a buyer.

If VWs design brief was to produce a car with zero memorable features, job done I reckon. I can't think of a single reason I would choose this at 70k over competitors like the new Hyundai Santa Fe for example, which even in Ultimate trim manages to come in at 15K less as well as offering three rows of seats and a really interesting design. I don't know what's happened at VW over the past few years as creativity, ergonomics and usability seem to have left the building. If I want a large car with piano black tirm and dodgy software, I am pretty sure I don't have to pay £70k to get one. Great review though as always 😁

The new Qashqai is a much better value for money SUV. Top of the range Tekna + has everything the VW has and more. Obviously not as big or as powerful, but a great little SUV for half the price of the basic model. If you don’t need to tow a big caravan, it is more than adequate and luxurious.

@@Fascinations746 No V6. Instead it has a small four-cylinder 1300cc turbo charged engine that I have seen 52mpg from. It is certainly quick enough in sport mode. 0-60 in under 10secs. 127mph top speed. No air suspension, but excellent multi link suspension, keeping it flat in the curves and reasonably good fun to drive.

Every Touareg I've owned (which is why I never will have another one) has had the same problem. Rain runs down the drainage system from the roof and then it collects in the nearside passenger footwell. No problem eh? Erm.....underneath the passenger footwell are all the main ECU's! Cost me thousands to put right. Never again. Love the truck, I hate the design. A 4x4 which gets damaged with rain water!! That V6 diesel is amazing.......stereo....fab! The bills.........for fixing it when it goes wrong are mortgage material. If I'm lying....VW UK......loan me one for a years test.

Because this vehicle is discreet and subtle, things that Americans who love to show off don't understand. They don't understand the concept of a premium vehicle coming from a non-premium brand. This vehicle is just as good as SUVs from Lamborghini, BMW, Porsche or Audi when it comes to platform, engines, handling at high speeds and technology. This is the reason why this vehicle is no longer available at the US.
