Appreciate the retrospective look at the new warriors. After reading Marvel’s Civil War event. I was curious about the New Warriors especially Speedball who was saddled with the blame for so much. I had endeared why would they be so cocky as to take on Nitro like they did. You helped me to see that the groups “edgy” personalities and somewhat reckless abandon created the right climate for that to happen. Thanks for filling the void.

Ah, rather unfortunate about the money situation. Hope you eventually sort it all out and enjoy many of the cool stories Marvel has to offer with this team!

For sure. I picked up the Nova and Night Thrasher series shortly after making this video. Good stuff.

Night Thrasher was 19. Rage was 13 and was kicked out of the avengers for being a minor. Pretty sure Speedball was older than 14.... I'll see if I can find some proof. Firestar was in her late teens and Vance a few years older. The eldest of the team was Namorita was over 40. And that's because she's Atlantean - they age much slower than humans.

new wariors and darkhawk were my favorite books in the 90s!
@Cosmic.Comics7 жыл бұрын
Just read that Darkhawk is getting a new issue and being brought back! Should be good times.
One of my all time favorite comics. It was also there just as I was getting into comics, and it felt awesome to be discovering the origins of the group as the series evolved. Rebooting this comic for Marvel would be a dream job for me.

So much bullshit from the half way point on. You didn't even get Firestar's superhero name right. Not once.

I first saw them in Thor 411-412. I remembered Speedball when I bought SB 2 and 4. Rage was in Avengers. I remembered Silhouette was a cool idea. But crossovers killed my interests.

Night Thrasher was in love with Silhouette and Midnight Fire is her brother. They are both the children of Chord. Chord is Night Thrashers tougher version of Alfred/Jeeves. All are of African descent. He seemed pretty cool at first but then he wasn't. At least not until he formed his super-group Folding Circle.

I was 11 when issue 1 came out and i really got into them. Some of the art really inspired kid me to want to draw comics. But man checking back to see what happened to them after i stopped paying attention was a shocker. Some of the later covers are downright horrible haha. The book obviously suffered from tonal whiplash never knowing if it was dead serious or over the top or ridiculous and then to top it off the way they ended up being the cause of civil war and how. They really got a raw deal. I love the comment about how diverse and thoughtful the team was constructed at first and how it was never the point it was just organic like it should be. Great video. Thanks!
@Cosmic.Comics5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the the thoughtful comment. I was going to follow this up as I worked through Vol 2, 3, 4, etc of New Warriors but the art and stories never capture that feeling of the first two years of Vol 1. But how do I justify that to my subs? Nobody wants an episode on Solar Man.

Well, I'll definitely be getting back to them. At some point I will dive into Richard Ryder and the Nova Force, Vance Astrovik will be covered in droves when do Guardians of Galaxy, and I'm pretty certain they tie in with the Celestials and a few other Cosmic storylines (such as the Dark Force to name one off the top of my head). But don't expect any of these videos anytime soon. Squadrons Sinister/Supreme, the Grandmaster, and the Serpent Crown are going to be tying the channel up for a bit. On the upside - several of these arcs are about to come crashing together.

The reasons you have are the reasons why Civil War happened. I didn't read New Warriors growing up. I had plenty of Marvel books in my pull box but too many great series going on at that time. I'll now be fishing thru all back issue bins looking for early New Warriors.

Really thinking about collecting these. Loved Vol 1 X force and these are basically the same concept just under the avengers. Fabian writing these also is pulling me in.

Good info. After finding a good deal I finally read the entire Night Thrasher series a couple of months back. A fun read that definitely helps fill in the holes in the New Warriors Timeline.

Agreed about Turbo, never liked her character. My first ever comic was NW #18, the one with Night Thrasher holding chord over the edge of a building. Also it was the same reason I started with the New Warriors because they had such a low issue count when I first started which ment I could go back to the start and know the whole story. Good video!

The Nova and Night Thrasher series are very hard to find. weather its the clearance box, or top shelf. these series didn't survive in the wild.

But for some reason everybody still seems to love Richard Rider. I have since picked up and read both series. It was nice to fill in the plot holes on Night Thrasher but nothing stands out to me from the Nova series.

CosmicComics I started picking up issues after picking up the crossover issues with Xforce. I just found issue #13 today which completes the first 30 issues, I have most of the issues up until #55

This guy has it all wrong worst of all all the ages that he says are wrong. Night Thrasher is only 18. This book was designed to be the Teen Titans for Marvel at the time Sono character was above 19 years old except for the cousin of Namor and that is pushing it to be fair she is in her early twenties everyone else is between the age of 14 to 19 years old the more this person talks the more he sounds just like he's whining about everything. I figure out about the same age as this guy and I was excited when the book came out all this guy does is complain about the comics he doesn't understand the relevance of it at the time he has misunderstood the comics and forgot the meaning of it of what it brought out to people from that age
