That DIRTY LOOKS album is absolutely one of my faves. . 3D! Yeah, you own a lot of stuff that I have been collecting for years! 20/20! The Fab Poos! The only Ministry album I totally dig! Tenpole Tudor! Yes! And you are right, it is their second album. Yeah, every album a classic. That A Flock of Seagulls album is one of the best of the era! Bow wow wow! Yup, you nailed it, my friend! Thank you so much!

Ian North - you can really hear the punk undertones in the power pop and new wave sound. Flaunt It - cool cover. We saw Flock of Seagulls live only a few years ago at Disney - there was one 15 yr old who was apparently the biggest fan, because she was the only one standing and dancing, and her jacket had pins and patches of the band.
@bipbopboom2 жыл бұрын
Great Flock of Seagulls story!! I wonder if she was one of their daughters? I couldn’t fathom a 15 year old even knowing who they are, but I’m a little out of touch. Thanks as always Kris!! Cheers!!

Nice. Ten Pole Tudor, such a great band. Eddie sang of the The pistol’s Great rock and roll swindle album. 20/20, great power pop. After the Raspberries and Big Star it seemed Power pop took a dive until Cheap Trick, Dwight Twilley, Phil Seymore, The Romantics, The records, etc.
@bipbopboom2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Terry! Much appreciated! The first time I heard Ten Pole was on the Swindle soundtrack as a kid. Yeah, there was definitely two eras (at least) of power pop. That 78-82 era was just great! I’m not super knowledgeable, but I dig the artists you mentioned, the Romantics, Records,Dwight Twilley. Also throw in the Nerves and the Real Kids for some of the second wave pioneers. Thanks for leaving a comment and dropping your opinions and recommendations! Reading them makes these video fun! Have a good one!! Jon

@@bipbopboom right, The Nerves. They wrote the song Hangin’ on the Telephone that was a small hit for Blondie. Power pop is so good, and it’s still going strong.

Hi Jon. I have the Milk 'n' Cookies original LP and the CD reissue on (I think) Captured Tracks. Been looking for that Ian North LP forever ... I used to think the 'Yellow Pills' power pop zine was named after a Jackie Lomax song called 'Little Yellow Pills'. It's only since I got the 20/20 album about a year ago that I now know different ... I saw Ed Tudor Pole live in a tiny pub venue a few years ago. A real energetic and eccentric character ... Tom Baker was, in my opinion, the best Doctor from 'Doctor Who' ... Sending all my best wishes to Stephen Schnee for a speedy recovery. He is an absolute star.

Thanks Frank! Appreciate it! Yeah, that Ministry is a good one. I might have to put it on, it’s been a while since I heard it. Way different than what they became later on! Wow, I literally just picked up that Fabulous Poodles record a few weeks ago on a crate-digging trip. My understanding is "Mirror Stars" is a compilation of their first 2 UK albums for the US market. Best wishes to Stephen Schnee, the guy that introduced me to The Legal Matters.
@bipbopboom2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris! Yeah, that blurb on the Fabulous Poodles is not exactly accurate. It was only the US debut and not exactly power pop, more of a pub rock sound and I don’t think the record was mint as the label said. Ha! Thanks for watching! Much appreciated! Cheers, Jon

@@bipbopboom Heart problems huh. He's still living so the Doctors can work on him. Heart attacks killed both my parents and Grandfather Gass. I lived a hard life and had one when I turned 50 and survived it. Then 6 years ago a heart specialist told me I was dying, I said bull I ain't in no pain. He told me some patients like me don't show symptoms but my heart was starving & leaking so I was dying and it wouldn't be long before that happened. So I got the quad bypass with a new type of heart surgery. They don't stop your heart. They just pull it out of your chest and work on it while it's still pumping. After the operation I had the head pharmacologist of the hospital pay me a visit because the morphine they were giving me wasn't working even after I complained and they upped the dosage. After he found out I used to invibe a lot of drugs once upon a time he mixed up some concoction that finally worked. Super stoner shit but after two dosages I asked them to cut one drug in the concoction in half. LOL... I didn't wanna be trippin just not in pain... LOL
