@Musicradio77Network3 жыл бұрын
I’ve never owned these miniature arcade cabinets, but the original arcade versions of “1942” and “1943” are really darn good, but the NES ports were mixed. The NES port of “1942” was really bad since it was the very first Capcom game for the NES in 1986 and it was developed by Micronics where they developed horrendous ports of the classic arcade games that were ported to the NES like “Ghosts ‘N Goblins”, “Athena”, “Tiger-Heli”, and others that were bad. The other NES port of “1943” was really good, but the low on energy sound was annoying. The biggest flaw in the NES port is where you get one life, and after you died, the game is over, and when you continue your game, you start over at the beginning of each stage where you left off. It also gives you a password feature where you can continue the game. “1942” was the first NES game to have a continue option where it gives you unlimited continues. I played “1942” for the NES and it was a terrible game, and it was the first NES title under Capcom before “Mega Man” started and it became a hit, and went on to make more Capcom titles for the NES where it became bonafide hits, and that’s why Capcom made awesome games for the NES back in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.

I had 1942 on the NES, it was a'ight. The game itself was already outdated by the time it made it to my grubby little hands, and there were already many more-advanced shooters out there. I recall the NES graphics and sound to be rather bland. The music was headache-inducing. It was the first game I ever rented, I remember that.

It *is* running the arcade ROMs. All of these Replicades, (and also Numskull's Quarter Aracdes) do. It is NOT a port of the game. EDIT: from the website: "officially licensed by Capcom featuring the original cabinet artwork *and* *both* *1942* *and* *1943:* *Battle* *of* *Midway* *arcade* *ROMs* "

You know I've wondered that myself. I think the original code is in this device but it has to be updated for the hardware it's on. With no real coin mechs, or dip switches, etc... a lot of the original code would probably be useless. The fact that they went to Capcom, got it licensed, and got this close to the original is pretty impressive to me.

George made some really good points about this very topic that just didn't make the final edit. At $99 they would be an instant-buy for most fans, but that extra $20-30 pushes them just outside the acceptable price for a lot of consumers. We don't debate the value for the money, but cost is a definite barrier for a lot of potential buyers.
