I love my Dragon's Lair Replicade that recently arrived. I didn't pre-order Space Ace but hoping to be lucky and pick up one of their reserve units when they become available. Also looking forward to receiving my pre-orders for Zoltar and Ghouls 'n Ghosts, hopefully in time to display them for Halloween!

Nice review Doug. It still amazes me that both New Wave Toys and Numskull have managed to painstakingly capture the fidelity of these cabinets at such a small scale and yet Arcade1up insists on doing everything to avoid that formula.

One of the many reasons I’ve given up on Arcade1up. They simply choose to do things as cheap and quick as possible, with no regard to authenticity or proper gameplay

It’s helpful to understand that Arcade1Up is a completely different kind of cabinet. Comparing A1U to New Wave or Numskull is comparing IKEA to Frank Lloyd Wright. Arcade1Up’s product is flat packed and assembled at home as a kit-It can look close enough to a real arcade machine that you can put several into a room and generally recreate the feel of a true arcade experience that you simply cannot get from a scale model. Son I’m thankful to have both. I have enough Arcade1Uo cabinets that I don’t “need” more but will likely find room if and when I find the right deal for the right machine… However, I can ALWAYS find room to put up a small shelf and have a working accurate scale replica of far more machines than I would ever have physical or budgetary space to own at the same level of detail. TLDR; if Arcade1Up’s had the accuracy and attention to detail you get from New Wave Toys or Numskull, it would increase costs/price an order of magnitude.

@@cooltoy I feel the same way, though the Terminator 2 cabinet is surprisingly better than I expected, even with the forced border for the Sinden lightgun functionality. But, definitely agree that Replicade/Numskull have this figured out right (just hope Numskull can figure out their manufacturing cadence...Replicade is crushing them in the production side of things (though, I appreciate Numskulls efforts in producing a solid product)).

@Thor KC no one is saying comparing the two is an apples to apples comparison by any means. Arcade1Up can't even get their games to emulate properly, the one thing they should focus on first and foremost. They have been caught numerous times now, rushing half baked products out to market and lying to their customers about known issues with their machines. Hell Arcade1Up even tried to copy the New Wave Toys Replicade line recently with their "Collectorcade" line and they didn't even bother to use actual arcade roms on their machines. 🤦

@@cooltoy Yeah well, I can excuse the differences between manufacturing quality, I have no excuse or explanation for the dumpster fire that is the Mortal Kombat CollectorCade. I wouldn’t call it a copy of the Replicade line as it is not to any sort of scale and Arcade1UP has no one to blame but themselves for the choice to use 16 bit console ports.

Looks great. The only thing that grates is the side art sticker. Looks a bit cheap. Would have liked to have seen a full edge-to-edge vinyl piece. Good review, thanks.

New Wave Toys will typically have some inventory available once they fulfill all their preorders. Typically happens a few weeks after the preorders are shipped, so you still have a chance coming up on the near horizon

A gun game and racing game would be the toughest to pull off but Glen's Build-a-cade proves they are both doable. Also within the next year there will be a few companies with 1:6 scale v-pinball which should be interesting. Hopefully Replicade does pinball as well since they are so awesome with the smallest details!

I'm really stunned that Arcade1up hasn't done more after the Terminator 2. It's a solid take on the genre, and think they should do a Sega multicade, like they did with Golden Axe, which included so many of the great Sega arcade platforms of that era. Would be willing to pick one up with Virtua Cops and HotDs.

I have the recent re-release of NWT's Dragon's Lair and now this. Does the Space Ace screen seem a bit more blurry/grainy than the DL one? Not sure if mine is defective or if it's normal.

Mine is the same. The first thing that struck me was that the screen looks blurry even in its default mode. I've not tried it using a HDMI output. It definitely appears more blurry than the Dragon's Lair one which I also own.

@@giallifan I went back and compared the NewWave boot-up logo screens side by side and they seem exactly the same, so I'm going to say that there's nothing wrong with my unit physically. I think just the Space Ace transfer is either not as high quality, or it's an illusion hidden by the fact Dragon's Lair is very dark and masks a lot of it. In any event, the HDMI output isn't good, exacerbated by the larger screen, or whatever it is. Definitely more degraded looking, but that's "normal."
