After eighteen years in the making and billions of dollars spent, a fourth and final weather satellite meant to protect the United States nears its final stage before launch.
In 2016 the first in a series of four next-generation #weather satellites was sent to orbit, changing the way forecasters have been able to see, and predict, the weather. This satellite was GOES-R, now known as #GOES16 since it reached its orbit. This new generation added three times more data, coming in at four-times the resolution, five times faster than the previous weather satellites.
Now #GOESU is nearing completion ahead of its April 2024 launch on a #SpaceX Falcon Heavy.
