Finally!! It's time to put on the new wheels and tires that I have been trying to do for over 4 months. This video was originally going to be about rolling the fenders, but it didn't work out like I planned, so the backup plan was to just show the new wheels.
Wheels: American Racing, Torq Thrust, 15x7, -6mm Offset/3.75in Backspacing, Model VN3095765 amzn.to/3zwN9gT
Tires: BFGoodwich Radial T/A, 225/60/15 amzn.to/3BaSdJ0
The car is a 1966 Mustang Coupe with a factory V8 and 4 speed transmission.
Shot with GoPro Hero 8 with the Media Mod, edited on Davinci Resolve 16.

@@AndyKruseChannel it's either Torq Thrust, Halibrands, Cragar S/S like you used to have, or the popular wheels of the 70s, the Ansen Sprints.

Wesley’s Bleach White works well to clean those letters and white walls. New formula seems to take more elbow grease though.

Early on my videos were longer and I tried to fit more info in them. But over time I found that most viewers stick around for 6 minutes or less, so I wonder if all that effort is worth it? The next 6 Mustang Thursday videos are 10 minutes or more. :) Yep, I've got material loaded up through the middle of May, working on a bigger mod right now but it's soaking up a few weeks, so I had to "get ahead" a little with a few vids so I could do the current upgrade. :)

@@keepingupwiththejones2933 Yes and no. Currently my videos are meant to be a how-to so that I can help others with their cars. Those kinds of videos are meant to show the viewer what they need to know so they can get to work on their car. Installing disc brakes is hard to do with a 5 minute video, that's why mine was so long even though I essentially skipped the install on the second half of the car. But installing LED bulbs in the dash is difficult to stretch into a feature length film and remain entertaining. You're absolutely correct about the attention span, by son is living proof. I hope to transition towards more of a vlog style where the progress of the car is captured in the videos instead of stand alone how-to's. But for now, I might as well capture all the updates, upgrades, and fixes this car needs.

What mods are necessary to fit these wheels and tires onto a stock 66 mustang? I am aware of rolling the fenders, but is there anything else?
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
That's it, just rolling the lip of the front two fenders is all you need. :)

Looking back, I think I liked the wheels and tires on this car over my current Mustang. While big wheels and thin sidewall tires can look fantastic on classics cars (the whole car needs to be dialed in for that look), I think thicker sidewall tires look better on average. One of the reasons why I went 16s with my current car is the lack of performance tires in the size I wanted for 15 inch wheels. :)

Great result Andy! Question: how many coils did you need to cut to lower the car how many inches, exactly? Also, did you have to buy any other parts? And… how did it effect the handling?
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Unfortunately I did not measure the fender height prior to installing and cutting the springs. I ended up cutting 3/4 of a coil on each spring to get me to that height in the video. I also did the Shelby Mod (also called the Arning Mod) to help get me to the height in the video (both the springs and Shelby mod were done in a previous video). The stiffer springs were immediately noticeable, but the Shelby mod was harder to notice. Probably because I did both at the same time so it's harder to tell the gain in caster. If I were to do it all over again, I'd do it the same. :)

On My 65 I ran 225 45r17 and I had to get spacers , without I was hitting the leaf springs .. you running wheel spacers?
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel Жыл бұрын
No, but the correct backspacing of the wheel will allow you to run those tires without any rubbing, which you essentially fixed with the spacers.

@@AndyKruseChannel what are they back spacing on yours?
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel Жыл бұрын
I have 16x7 wheels, with a 4" backspacing (same as 0" offset). With wheel width , add an inch to your known size and that's your actual size. For example, I have 16x7 wheels, so my actual wheel width is 8 inches across, this includes the lip. So for back spacing the measurement is from the mounting surface of the wheel (where it bolts to the wheel hub) to the edge of the wheel. Hopefully that helps your situation, a 225/45 should fit on the rear without rubbing the leafs as long as your backspacing is 4 inches. You can probably get away with 4.5 inch or possibly 4.75 inch backspacing on a 7 inch wheel (which is actually 8 inches wide). :)
@chevroletbelair1
@chevroletbelair1 3 жыл бұрын
damn that took long :-) what backspacing is this? i ordered some 6inch width for front and 7 inch for the rear does the front 225/60/15 tire rub ?
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 3 жыл бұрын
3.75" Backspacing (-6mm Offset). The tires do not rub, but that's because I rolled the fenders a bit. I tried them out before rolling and the rubbed the front edge of the fender when turning the wheel, and also the top of the fender when hitting the smallest of bumps. Depending on your backspacing, you might be able to fit the same size tire on your car without rubbing, but that's a really wide tire for a 6" wide wheel.
@chevroletbelair1
@chevroletbelair1 3 жыл бұрын
@@AndyKruseChannel i think the 6 inch wide has 3.65 backspacing do you have a litlle more room on the inside of youre wheel ( i hope so :-) )? Maybe these dust caps fit? www.oreillyauto.com/shop/b/tire---wheel-16779/wheel-dust-cap-12667/9fc2e07f931e/1965/ford/mustang

@@chevroletbelair1 I believe you're correct, the 6" wide TT wheels are 3.65"-3.66" backspacing. I was able to order the same style wheel cap as the rears, but the back is slightly bored out so it covers the axle dust cap. But thanks for the recommendation! :)

@@jeepdad Sorry Boss, I've got nothing. I didn't do anything with the quarter panels on the rear, and the fenders in the front were done by hand and some wide-blade visegrips. It wasn't pretty and I'm not proud of the work I did. I didn't want to show it as I am not wanting people to replicate what I did. The paint is fine and it works, but I wish I could have gotten the fender rollers to work.

Would you know if a 275/60r15 would fit in the rear of a 66 mustang?
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 3 жыл бұрын
It may fit with the correct wheel backspacing as there isn't much room for error when considering the space between the leaf springs and the lip of the wheel arch. For a 15x8 wheel, you'd want to be at 4.5 inch backspacing. For a 15x9 wheel, you'd want to be at a 5 or 5.25 inch backspacing. But, honestly I'd get a little more data first before trying to shoehorn that tire in there. :)
