While you were under there it would have been the perfect time to change the rear differential and the transfer case fluid. I’m almost wiling to bet that the gear oil in them has never been changed. If Honda is anything like Toyota the front differential is probably part of the transmission. Invest in a can of Penetrating fluid. If that doesn’t loosen the nut or bolt. A metal plug like on a diff or transfer case responds well to 5 or 6 medium force apps with a hammer. Whenever you do the brakes check the caliper slide pins. The tend to seize and then one of you rake pads wears out in no time. Use silicon brake grease only. Anti seize on the back side of the brake pads where the caliper piston and the caliper itself touch the pads. After a brake job remember to pump the brakes until the pedal firms up. I’ve seen people drive off and go flying in the ditch or into a parked car because the pedal went to the floor.
@BrentsVanLife3 ай бұрын
Great explanation of what right to do on a brake job. It’s been a while since I worked in automotive and done brakes. Thanks for the tours in rest diff & transfer
@Zeek8003 ай бұрын
@@BrentsVanLife many people ignore the diffs and transfer case ( in an AWD or 4X4 ) and they are relatively easy to change the fluids on. It should be done every 40,000 to 50,000 miles on an AWD and every 30,000 on a 4x4 that sees some or lots of off-roading, trailer pulling etc. Another thing people “ fall for “ is “ Lifetime Transmission Fluid” or Sealed transmission. There is no such thing, the transmission fluid should be replaced every 60,000-70,000 miles at the very least. I’m curious what it is that signalled that the sway bar links needed to be replaced? Oh and ya a can of penetrating fluid is a problem solver at times. Give it awhile to work after spraying it on and in most cases the nut comes loose.
