So, do I have this right: game has an amazing beta, game launches and is doing really well, players find exploits and ruin in game economy, instead of fixing the systems the devs remove game functions, player base dwindled, dedicated group of players continue for a couple years, first major expansion development split between new content and rework of intro areas, players come back, players get bored quickly, dedicated players hold out, second expansion rewrites existing area, players upset with quality, more players leave, AGS decides to scrap and rework existing game into something console players can purchase, and the dedicated players get a cosmetic for their troubles?

You forgot how the first expansion of Brimstone Sands was just a free update. Then they released Rise of The Angry Earth for $30.. with like 1/4 of the content. You mostly pay $30 to use the flail and mounts. The game itself is $40.. The expansion is like 1/16th of the size of content in the base game.. but only $10 less..? They'd have made far more money making the expansion free and just having mount skins.. instead they did both.

I played the game a LOT, I was almost in love with it!... but that love ended in disappointment. Thanks to the "wonderful" development team who instead of taking the courage to confront THEIR playerbase problems (for almost several YEARS now), focused on THEIR OWN visions which were not nearly about OUR problems and killed the game. Did they admit it? No. The game is nearly dead? Yes. And now they're releasing an update that relies on console gamers, abandoning the PC sphere and just changing the name of the game. I still HOPE that they will replace the current developers and put brave people who are loyal and faithful to the game at the helm of development who really want to see New World rise from the ashes.

The game itself is fantastic. I have over 4000 hours into it and I still play it on the daily. The reason why people are mad is because they stopped releasing content basically a year ago and promising us that the "big announcement" they were working on would be so good and so content rich that it would all be worth it. In the mean time, the community basically endured the content less and buggy version of the game until june where they announced console launch and pretty much nothing else. And what made people even more angry is that when they finally addressed the pc players, there was no apology. It was more of a "were sorry you feel this way". Theyve basically decided to toss us to the side regardless of how much weve endured. I think new world has one of the most loyal playerbases in gaming but they continue to kill us off.

It is a new expansion for the PC version and release for the consoles. It seems to add raids, targeting with tab/mouse is my guess and a new PvP map. Overall a small expansion. While GW2 releases a new expansion with way more stuff 2 months earlier.

The Alpha for this game was great. It was also an entirely different game. One that would've definitely had few but very dedicated players sort of like EVE online. Then they shifted to the PVE MMO on rails gameplay and the game absolutely suffered. Don't think I've ever tested a game that was better in alpha than in it's beta...

I like New World and really hope for two things they rework with this update: 1) The server system. It has a flawed design. Long qeues on releases and empty servers where people feel stuck unless they pay money or the devs combine serverpopulation. That and not being able to play with friends that have to create a new character later on on a different server. Move and entire guild or abandon that friend. What a choice is that? In my case it was leading to those who wanted to join us, to just leave the game immediately. Just look at guild wars 1 and 2 and copy their server system. You can say what you want about their games but the server structure is just working in my opinion. 2) Another problem is replayability and low time investment vs high time investment player. Low time players are hitting grind walls and leave at lvl 30 and players that play a lot, play through your entire content and are left with nothing to do. Other mmorpgs have the option to play a new character from scratch for those who played through your game. This is extremely disincentivized by your games systems. Just add classes with some basic abilities and/or just stats you start with and or boni to refining skills, still enabling all weapons (because a warrior could still benefit from the firestaff artefact, a healer might still want to use the defense and mobility of the rapier). When i think about another game you could draw inspiration from in this regard, its path of exile (every character can use every ability but starting stats different and through subclasses those classes can do certain things better than others). Gathering skills being either accountwide or having much less grind to level them. This would also make new world equip loads not as important, those are not fun to play with anyway, because when you use the same weapon in multiple ones, you need to respec it every time. When starting all over again would be incentivized, it would also mean that your long time players could finally see all the work you put into the story and leveling experience. Which is not the case atm. And it would make it a lot easier to pick up your game again after you didnt play for a long time. You could relearn the game with a new character instead of starting to try to figure out what you where doing before you left and what all the items in your inventory are meant for. A New world 2.0 release for consoles is the moment to implement those changes. I really hope you are doing that and do not just release it on console as it is right now :)
