unfortunate ist misinformed info. The stats do NOT convert to focus, only a max of 30% using a tier 3 gem will convert to < element> dmg. thus if a axe does 100 dmg it will do 70 base dmg adn 30 < element> dmg. the actual dmg scaling from focus based atribute points does NOThing. STR will increase base dmg.. focus will not and thus will also not increase < element> gem dmg. as a secondary weapon you can level with anyting , even if you use zero atribute points toward that weapon you can level just fine with it. but late game trials/dungeons,pvp .. you be disapointed.. For a healer dmg output will always be low, you pick a weapon based on its utility not its Direct dmg output. not untill they add a actual focus based "dmg" weapon.

It will be interesting to see how this style plays out at high levels. I've been messing around with a life staff focus build and really like backbar War Hammer and backbar Fire Staff, both of them feel pretty good so far (level 25). I haven't tried the axe build yet. I'm half tempted just to focus (heh, not an intended pun, but I'm keeping it!) on the lifestaff and just grind it straight to 20 first. The kill speed doesn't feel too much slower than the other weapons I've tried out, though I have yet to get high enough to equip decent amber gems and they could significantly change things up.
@JesperHasteen3 жыл бұрын
I expect it will drop behind quite fast at higher levels, the amount of perks others get from the attributes alone will stack up against you. Maybe the fire or ice Focus builds can have something special with the added mana perks from Focus but obviously that removes mana that could have been used to heal.

Just want to say you got one thing wrong about the "stat change gem" and how it works. It DOES NOT make all the weapons damage scale off of the stat in the gem, in this case FOC. What it actually does is scale the damage that has been converted to the new type, again using the example in the video the FOC would only apply to the 30% converted damage. At higher tiers these types of gems will be more valuable due to a higher converted damage % but the lower tier ones are dreadful unless paired with the correct weapons. So yes you are getting more damage out of your axe with the gem, just don't go giving people the wrong infomation.
@StaffRecordPlayer3 жыл бұрын
important point here
@Maglouk3 жыл бұрын
There is no point at the moment to use any gem higher than 20% conversion due to how it works right now, I tried between 20-30, the total damage becomes the same no matter what % of the gem you have, as long as you have the same amount of focus, having a weapon that does 150 physical 100 nature damage, and one that does 100physical 150 nature damage doesn't matter, the damage added from focus scaling doesn't become more on the 150 nature weapon, it seems to just be a flat added damage ontop. The only reason to go for a 50% conversion gem, is if theres a benefit of having that elemental weapon be used on something with a weakness towards it. Players tend to have equal damage resistances so it wont matter in pvp. if someone goes full Str or dex build he will outperform you in terms of damage by quite a lot, but a focus build in heavy armor and con will do "enough" damage especially if they use greataxe since that weapon is borked with the heavy attack glitch, and will outlast them, if allowed to fight inside the healing bubble especially.

@Tibbles Your comment is undervalued in this thread. I see too many content creators saying what this fella is saying...its ridiculous. How these gems work is right there in the tool tip. And its very likely that his GA has higher dmg than his focus stat...the ele dmg he's outputting is actually 20-50% of his weapon dmg.
@Hewbroc3 жыл бұрын
@@brassbat That makes sense. I was so confused lol. So in the video you can see he has 136 focus and his base axe damage was 133. So he's only getting an extra 3 damage advantage? I mean if that's the case you might as well slot another gem like Opportunist or something until your FOC overtakes your base weapon damage by a more significant amount. Am I understanding this all correctly? I don't know lol.

Just a heads up: if your weapon already has an element due to perk Chain X, like Chain Lightning, you WON'T be able to add another element to it besides the one that already exists (Lightning in the given example). So what it means is you won't be able to use a Focus gem (it is only nature) on weapons that have the perk Chain X, unless there is a Chain Nature which I am not aware of.

Hatchet is better. But greataxe has a way more fun moveset. Charge - reap - execute combo is extremely fun or Gravity well - charge - execute. Plus the Greataxe looks way more Badass. :)
@hampustornros3 жыл бұрын
Not to mention that when you reach 200 focus, you will have a 20% increase to all buff durations, making your berserk last 18 seconds and heal 1 extra tick. Though if you want to go heavy on damage, something like the rapier might do very well since it's cooldowns are so low that in a PvE situation, it's virtually pointless to swtich to a secondary weapon. The best part about the build though is that you can use just about any combination of weapons in the entire game, you don't even necessarily need to use the lifestaff at all times and at worst you're still only losing 10-15% DPS while having great healing capabilities assuming you're at endgame with a T5 gem.

Unfortunately this is not entirely correct. The gems do not swap the weapon scaling of the weapon over all. So you don't change a Great Axe from scaling off for Strength to scaling off of Focus. What does scale is the Nature Damage this offers. So, the nature portion of the damage will scale off of either Focus or Strength. Now, when you do 50%(Best Amber) this is still good. But this will NOT scale your weapon entirely off of Focus. If you want to do damage with this, you need to invest talents that will boost weapon damage, such as empower, armor pen, etc.

Would be nice if you were showing this build fighting mobs higher level then you and elites. Fighting things that are 2-3 levels below you doesn't showcase anything at all, on top of fighting just one at a time. Example: During Beta I was running a tank/healer, commonly called a Paladin build, with nearly all points into Con (to 250) and then the rest in Focus, using Sword & Board with Healing Staff. The only stats in Str were from gear. Even at low level I could take on about 6 mobs that were all 5-6 levels above me and take them down fairly quickly and walk away at half health or more every time. I could solo Elite mobs that were 2 levels above me just fine. This build looks like it could be a good healer with some support but not much in the way of clearing large groups of mobs solo, at least it wasn't shown to be able to handle it and seeing the damage you were taking from mobs lower level then you I kinda doubt it. My build is very tanky and is certainly a good tank, with useful heals to support the group and mainly help take healing pressure off of the main healer because I can hold my own for most encounters. This is what makes this game great currently, it really does pretty well at allowing people to tweak their builds just enough to scratch that itch.

There are different tiers of gems that take different levels of jewel crafting. You do jewel crafting through stone cutting tables. Flawed Gems (Flawed Amber) are the lowest level and require 0 skill rating. Regular Gems (aka Amber) require 50 skill rating. The recipe is Amber + 2x Earth Wisp + Solvent. Or just buy Cut Amber on the trading post (was 200 gold on my server)
@Lantalia3 жыл бұрын
The low level gems are trivial, you just need the flawed gem itself, and and some appropriate elemental motes, and can cut them into socketable gems at the starting tier stonemason's table. Higher level gems need higher tier stonemason's table, and higher tier motes, so will not be available until people take territory are start upgrading the trade skill facilities, worse, workshops are probably higher priority (improved gathering tools, muskets, and bows), and making higher tier motes requires upgraded arcane facilities

@@Lantalia yea its the motes that are the problem... Ive got several hundred silver bars and 10+ of many uncut gems, but have never found a single mote.

I was hoping to make some kind of paladin which exert control over the battlefield while healing. Being also hard to kill if i get jumped on. I was worried i wouldnt be able to scale dmg but know that it can is a relief. I dont mind having low dmg so long as i can support and disrupt the enemy

Check out ser medieval on YT he has a great pally build and he definitely exerted control on PvP.

I still prefer my dex/con Bow/hatchet build. With Onix jewel. With bow I always hit the monster down before they reach me. And for small lower level packs, I use hatchet to kill it. also the mobility of hatchet + bow gives you the edge of finishing quests faster. Moving faster from monster to monester and chest to chest.

I've been waiting for a frontline healer. I want to use a rapier and heal staff cause I'm a "healer" in ESO and I think its hilarious when someone picks on you and you turn and burn them.
@djsk2443 жыл бұрын
youre still going to be a subpar damage dealer. you wont be "burning" anyone. The biggest PRO of alodars build is having the flexibility to deal DPS and Heal. Which means you have a ton of sustain for PvP and PvE, Rapier is a terrible weapon to pair up with the heal staff imo
