It’s awesome that you were in the army. I was in the armed forces reserves here in Thunderbay and I did my basic training in Shiloh Manitoba . I loved being in the reserves and was going to join the army but I got hurt and then became disabled from a brain injury and wasn’t able to join and even had to retire from the reserves.

I enjoy being part of the reserves. I would devote more time to it, but we are very busy with work and our business.

Hi Chris and Mandy. I know this question is t about the video Chris but you being a doctor might be able to help me. I had to rush my dad to the hospital today in an ambulance because when I woke up I tried to wake my dad up and he wouldn’t wake up. He’s doing better now but still very weak. He has double pneumonia and an infected bed sore and also diabetes. Once the ambulance driver had given him oxygen and an iv he started to come around and by the time I got a ride to the hospital he was coherent again and able to talk to me. He hates the hospital and refused to go before Christmas when our doctor said he might have pneumonia. My question is once he comes home is there anything I can do to keep him from getting pneumonia again or to help treat the pneumonia if they send him home tomorrow because our hospital is too overcrowded with 75 beds in the hallways with people laying in them hoping for a room to become open.

I can't give specific medical advice with him not being a patient whom I have seen, and I should preface my comments by stating that I am not a specialist in Internal Medicine. However, I can speak in generalities and say the following. It is imperative for people who are medically unwell to be as active as possible. Mobilization improves lung function, heart function, blood sugar levels, and reduces the chance of bed sores. Patients who are too debilitated to walk should typically be given an incentive spirometer, which is a breathing device that they can use to help keep their lungs inflated so that the chance of pneumonia is decreased. It encourages deep breathing which helps lung function. Bottom line, is to try to keep him as active as possible, and practicing deep breathing regularly each day. Hope this helps!
