Saw your channel for the first time! Beautiful landscapes up there in the north in the wintertime. And the light on your way to Tromsø after the customs - absolutely magic! And why do you think that these pictures might be boring for the viewers?? It is boring for the wrong (!) viewers, not for trucking fans. So, please more pan-nordic roundtrips!! Reminds me of back in the 1990's when I drove an International 9700 cabover up to and back from Quebec in Canada.
@Slipse3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex 😊 just out of curiosity, do you miss your cabover? I have a friend in Iowa, he drives a new Volvo "nose truck" and he wrote on more occasions, that he misses the old cabover. I would love the extra space, that you have in the trucks over there, but they would be a menace to drive around in the tight places we have over here.
@alexclement72213 жыл бұрын
@@Slipse Not really. Aside from deliveries in NYC and Montreal, I usually had enough maneuvering space for an extra meter of nose. Our trailers were either 14.54m or 16.06m long, with the 16.06m length being most common. I spent a full summer driving a short-nose Mack C-series (400 hp, 9-sp Eaton-Fuller Roadranger), and it didn't have any more length or width inside the cab, but the floor was flat and you could stand up if you were shorter than about 1.75m tall, which I'm not, but at least it felt roomier. I also once drove a Freightliner with a long, high nose; THAT was scary to drive in traffic! With the extra nose length, the longer wheelbase gave a better ride, and the engine was further forward, making the cab a bit quieter. Also, you never had to worry about your steer axle being overweight, like would happen in the cabover (our limits were usually 5,454kg steer, and 15,454kg on the 2 drive axles).
@alexclement72213 жыл бұрын
@@Slipse BTW, as to truck lengths here in the US; there are some regions and toll roads where very long trucks are common. The longest I saw was a combination on the Kansas Turnpike, where a long-nose Freightliner was pulling 2 57' trailers (17.27m) trailers with a 2-axle dolly. Total length was about 45m.
@Slipse3 жыл бұрын
There are some huge differences between our trucks and weight limits 😉 my truck and trailer weighs 22 ton empty, and the total weight is 50 ton. 8 ton on my steering axle, 18 ton on the bogie, and 24 ton on the triple trailer axles. - this is for Scandinavia only, anything south of Denmark is merely 40 total weight. The third axle on my truck is a tag axle, fitted for use in Norway, with a special software, that allows me to transfer the air pressure to the drive axle, so ie. going up a slippery hill, I push a button on the dashboard, and put maybe 15 ton on the drive axle, and the tag axle will only press with 3 ton - I can see the weight on the center display on the dashboard, in severe cases, I can even lift the tag axle fully loaded, and will have 18 ton on my drive axle. All this can be done while driving, and it just takes a few seconds to transfer the pressure. The empty weight for the truck is just under 10 ton, and the trailer weighs a notch over 12 ton. The reason for the trailer being this heavy is because it has a stronger subframe and the box is strengthened for the full side opening of the left side, and it has double compound reefer, for 2 temp zones and doublestock bars for carrying 66 europallets.
@alexclement72213 жыл бұрын
@@Slipse Our trucks were mostly 15 tons (30,000 lbs) empty, with a loaded maximum of 40 tons (80,000 lbs) loaded. Our trailer 'tandems' slide, so that we can comply to different state 'kingpin-to-rear-axle' length requirements (my state allows 42 feet, but California only allows 40 feet). Our tractors almost always have 2 drive axles, with a 'power divide' switch to lock them together in low traction situations. Side-opening trailers are very rare here in the states; almost all palletized freight is unloaded from the rear at a dock, refrigerated or dry freight. I haven't actually driven a truck in 16 years, not since the last time I worked in a transportation company (and haven't regularly driven in nearly 24 years), but I still have my license. I completed my engineering degree and now work in manufacturing. Also, I'm on hemodialysis, so long-distance driving is no longer something I can do. OTR driving here in the states is a job where there is little professionalism any more. Most drivers in the US today are semi-literate, and few have anything more than a secondary school education, if that. Drivers today can take as little as a 3 week driving course and get hired. Many states have extremely easy driving tests, and you'll find a huge number of licensed drivers who can't even back a trailer into a dock. Even when I left the industry, few drivers could properly balance out a load or fill out customs paperwork. I used to drive to Quebec, but few people wanted this run because almost none of them could manage driving in a French-speaking region. I can only imagine that things have become worse since then.

Thanks for another interesting and informative video. Can I ask what facilities are there in North Norway for trucks in the way of truck stops and overnight parking shower facilities etc, are you allowed to park at the delivery points? My experience of winter in Norway was based with the U.K. military at Bardufos for winter training. Also had the pleasure of working in Trondheim in the summer and winter. Best wishes for 2022 and look forward to the trip to Italy
@Slipse3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much Richard 😊🙏 It varies a lot when it comes to facilities, some places there are nice truckstops, where you can shower, hook up your trailer to electric connections, so you save some fuel, and it runs less noisy 😉 Most of the fish slaughteries, have parking space, toilet and shower for the drivers, because a lot of waiting is normal, and when the loads are ready, you need to have full drive time.. as we drivers usually say, there is nothing, there is more busy than a dead fish 🙄😂 It can be hard to plan to reach the better parkings, when you need to max out your driving/work time and often one ends up on a small layby with absolutely nothing there, so when you get experienced, you need to fit in the daily needs, where you can, before ending up in the wilderness for a night's rest 😉

Dvsl😁. Ser altid frem til dine film👍.

Hello Slipses. Watched you for the first time and hope your throat is okay. I have enjoyed it very much as I come from a family who had a truck fleet. I work for Scania in Australia (currently home on holidays ). How does your R660 go?? And is it fitted with the new gearbox?? Apart from that I hope you continue to have safe trips. All the very best.

Hi Greg 😊 Glad to have you on board 😊 yes my truck is fitted with Scanias new gearbox, it shifts like lightning, and it does wonders for the fuel consumption, specially on the straights. I think the engine is perfect for Norway, the torque is ample. Together with the new gearbox it is a perfect combination. In Europe all trucks are electronically speed limited to 90km/h, when driving 90km/h in overdrive, the engine only does 980 rpm, which is still in the full torque range (2300 nm from 950 - 1450 rpm) so all she does is the sweet rumble, and it pulls like mad 😁👍 So even in these hilly conditions, I seldom use other than the economy mode. It is a total breeze to drive 🤗

@@Slipse Thats great to here!! We are getting one of these soon as a demo but it is a 6x4. By the way, what diff ratio is yours running?? I see your truck is a 6x2 is that correct? As for the sweet rumble there is nothing better sounding!! Take care my friend.

Yes it is a 6 x 2, I am not sure about the diff ratio to be honest, I will have to check back in my boss's files, when I get back to the base, I have just started a new trip this morning

thanks for the videos, you are partially the reason why I angered up myself that I can never drive in Norway because no company goes there (at least I could never find one), so I said F this Schitt, imma move there and become a norwegian truck driver :D I started learning the language already, thanks for the motivation :D

you are welcome Johnny 😊 I hope you will find what you are looking for .. be glad you weren't here this week though.. the weather turned mild and rainy within 15 minutes, and it was like iceskating with 50 ton... I hate when that happens 😳

Hello can you make a video that no music just the sound of the truck
@Slipse3 жыл бұрын
Hi Leomar, I doubt it will happen, first of all, I think music is a big part of the driving experience, and phonecalls, or audio books are also being cut away from my videos. So it will be a bit of both 😉
