Seeing the crowd waiting to get in immediately turned me off ever going to NYCC; I'll experience the con vicariously through your footage thanks Jim. Steranko looked like a really cool older guy when he was young, then he simply grew into the role. Keith Giffen is an under-appreciated genius. His Legion art with Larry Mahlstedt on inks is stunning, his contributions to the Bwa-ha-ha era of Justice League remain funny and Ambush Bug is one of my favourite DC characters. He's one of he few creators whose new work I always bought regardless of which character or title because I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.

Great video Jim. Sorry I missed you at the show. The Thanksgiving Creation shows were the absoloute best!!!! Always picked up great books at those shows. I would save for months in anticipation of going, usually all 3 days.

I use to sell at Orlando comic con back in 1993 and 94. Every dealer was able to get 3 stan lee auto. There was a new artist who did vampirella at the time was walking around signing for free. I think his name was buzz or something

Good evening Jim I hope you feet are well recovered, I enjoyed the coverage immensely. Well done on your finds. I love the additions to the PC well done. Alas no gold keys were purchased. Was there a Gold Key Specialist at the event? Cheers Al The Goldkeyfourcolorkidownunda

the longest time I spend at a show is about 3 hours. Unless I am particapating in some event or want to hear guests talk, or get in line for "Artists Alley". I don't mind looking around and enjoying the people and surrounding. But after 3 hours, it can get boring. Depends on how much money I can spend.

I'm fairly certain Judge Dredd homaged that Crack Comics cover in its 80's UK run. Or else it's uncanny close

Bronzeville love your show. Can you explain to me why you need to fill runs? I never understood the reasoning for it? It takes up space, most issues have no value, and when you go to sell the entire run, most buyers will ask for 50% or less of what you spent on it. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

An interesting take on it. I would think that the title itself determines the value of a 'complete run' of it. For example, a complete run of certain golden age titles (such as ""Marvel Mystery" or "More Fun") would be quite valuable. With that said, it' would also be out of the price range of most collectors.
@dakoitcave817
@dakoitcave817 11 ай бұрын
@@wylierichardson-tu6zs that entire run has value. However Superman and Superboy and Justice league, green lantern titles for the most part have had little desirability- it’s been that way for decades. Only a few books from those 50-80 year runs have shown considerable value. For me, I never collect runs. If I want to read them I go to the library check them out, or seek out collected omnibus. Even then the stories are not particularly great. So I’m again at a loss why people want the complete runs.

@@dakoitcave817 If the creator of this channel likes those titles enough, then it's probably worth it to him to track down those issues. Collecting takes many forms. I used to be a 'golden age' snob, and would only collect titles printed before 1960. However, in my current phase of collecting, I have begun to appreciate the more recent material, and I often buy newer issues in 'dollar bins' wherever I can find them. It's just a question of changing tastes. Anyways, good luck with your own hunt.

While I imagine prices were high due to vendors needing to cover their costs for selling at NYCC, the vendor at 8:34 had some great prices on a few of the books I saw when you panned the selection, especially when you consider you're not paying a buyer's premium, shipping, etc. I would've dropped a lot money at that booth.

It seems like Heritage and Hakes use their displays as eye candy and marketing. I don’t think attendees are going to drop big money on some of those books. And those are most likely consignments so they won’t be working out any deals. Crazy amount of trinket vendors there as well. Curious to know how many comic vendors were setup. Elite Comics 11 did some excellent live sales from the show floor which were great.

You may be right, but I think the hope of all of the sellers there is that buyers with deep pockets will show up and do business with them, or at least consider doing so in the future. No one makes money through 'eye candy' alone - they actually have to move their merchandise to make a profit.

I have been to NYCC two years in a row, and both were on the 'opening Thursdays'. Yes, even tho it's a workday, it was still jam-packed. I would imagine that the other 3 days are just as busy, but I am not speaking from personal experience.
