I had no idea this existed until now, I think the reality is as long as there are high places to jump from there are going to be people who jump from them, this isn't an architectural issue it's a mental health issue.

No it’s actually the opposite or maybe both. The guys who created the vessel namely the one guy he was warned for over 10 years that people were gonna jump off of the vessel and they even offered him to put a plexiglass shields along the outside railing of it and he said no because he said he would take the risk of people jumping. There’s a whole documentary that’s been done on the vessel and about mental health in general and it states the people who are suicidal only really wanna jump off of places that are ugly… So instead of putting those big mesh nets on the side of bridges to keep people from jumping they’ve started to put big floral arrangements and things like that to make it look more beautiful and it’s brought the suicides down astronomically. So this guy was just an asshole. He knew the people would jump off of it he was warned he was given ample time to put up safety measures that they encouraged him to do but he still went ahead with it anyway damn the consequences

New York is such a surreal place to live. You have this billionaires making playgrounds for the uber rich just next door to some of the worst poverty in the nation. Like people eating thousand dollar diners on a sidewalk shed as legit starving people walk right through. Spend this money to help the community? how about this metal egg with stairs.

From the architects perspective he’s probably like dude how can you get mad at four suicides when thousands of people have jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge

The Vessel isn't killing anyone, just like the Golden Gate Bridge isn't killing anyone. People are choosing to kill themselves on these structures. These people will always find a place to jump from.

How did anyone not consider this a safety hazard day 1 lol. Stairs on stairs nothing else. Perfect for falling.

How is it a safety hazard? Nobody has fallen, all of these people jumped off killing themselves.

@Wylder Watkins Does that mean if someone jumps off their balcony or over the railing at a mall the architect is to blame? What if someone jumps off a bridge, is it the architects fault that the railings weren't high enough?

Kinda looks like that third eye brain structure/pine comb scared geometry thing. Personally, when I’m in a spot somewhere where it’s high up and you’re not “industrially protected” I’m like whoa, I could die, can’t believe they’re giving people that kinda, um freedom, just leaving themselves open to that legally, wow

How many deaths have other buildings in NY had? The golden gate bridge is a suicide hotspot too but no one wants to close it? People who are determined to die will always find a way. Can't really blame the builder or building!

Men this is not the same as a bridge is a public area can you understand??? They could have put higher windows outside and inside but for the "beauty" of this stupid building they don't have put it. You can't stopp a fucking bridge it's not the same. Are you 13 years old to not understand that?

I mean, the Golden gate Bridge is the most common suicide spot and they don't shut it down. Great story though Bent.

Not even close to the same thing. When someone jumps off the GG bridge into the Bay, their body isn't splattered on concrete for hundreds of people to see and be traumatized for the rest of their lives...and that's if they weren't hit and killed by being underneath the falling person.

@Wylder Watkins there's a fear of people dying when constructing anything. Construction sites BEFORE completion are dangerous and used for suicide.
