You are all lucky to be doing this on a mannequin. I had to do all this on real models and using real products (more often than not for the first time working with a perm or relaxer).

What state are you in? I had to do it on a real person too back in the 90's, but it was still simulated products.

For the retouch do we have to put the protective gel from the inch an a half down ?

I think you are asking about the left back, 1 1/2" retouch section?? If so, you first outline the section, put gel at the scalp area, then skip 1 1/2" and put gel on the rest of the strand. After this is complete, you will start the cholesterol application on the virgin front left section. Does this make sense?

The gel does go on the scalp. If you are talking about the relaxer (cholesterol), yes you do need to skip the scalp area at first.

Unfortunately not. Make sure you pack enough cholesterol!!

I was taught to use the back of a rat tail comb for my relaxer, is that wrong for stateboard?

The back of the rattail comb IS acceptable! I teach with the brush, only because I think it's easier, but the back of your comb is ok!!
