Just a tip, in New York everyone walks everywhere. Taking a taxi is only a good idea, if you CANNOT walk there. Bring flats then change into your heels.

I know how you feel about taxi's the reason you probably couldnt catch one, is that if you cant tell where you are like the direction of all the roads, one ways, etc like how all the avenues intersect the the street like 42nd street intersecting 7th avenue just as an example then depending on where you are standinng or walking typically you aren't in a taxi lane, you can tell where the taxi lanes are when you see other people trying to catch one, because there's usually a line waiting for taxis.

it can be hard to find one, but when you you can kind of tell when a taxi driver is looking for people to stop by for people. I do not live in New York City but i have been a few times and learned that taxis dont just stop when they see you, you have to be in a certain area like a bus stop almost

You have to look for the taxi that has their light on, on top of the cab. The ones with their lights off means that they're occupied with other passengers.

Number 1 rule in New York City: You're supposed to get into the yellow cab and THEN tell the driver you're address, otherwise you will never catch a cab :(

Here's what u do. Get in the taxi then tell the driver where ur going. They are not allowed to say no then. And if they do, take the number, call 411 and report it
