A lot of ppl are bitter about him leaving the Pads but that's the same shit he said AND more when he came to SD. The defense and arm where not that great and he relied on walking a lot. Luckily for the Yankees he is on a contract year and he will play even better. On the other side of the coin don't count on him signing unless you show him the money. Firstly, Ohtani is in a separate category given his hitting + pitching and the fact he’s won the MVP 2 out of the last 3 years (coming in 2nd the other time). Everyone is talking about him having the potential to be the greatest player of all time, so the expectation is that his deal would be unique and nobody else should come close. The second reason his deal doesn’t really raise the bar is because the value of his deal is actually substantially lower than most people recognize. The headlines will say “700 million dollar deal”, but because of the way it was structured with 97% of it being deferred to the following decade, the money that he’ll be receiving in 20 years from now is going to be worth a lot less due to inflation. This is why the tax-hit on the Dodgers is for 46 million per year for 10 years - because due to inflation and some other factors, the projected value of the money he’ll receive in two decades from now is ACTUALLY equivalent to 460 million dollars if that money were provided over this decade. The deferred cash is equivalent value-wise to just taking a giant discount in this decade (with added benefits of cash flow flexibility to Dodgers).

He seems very mature and seems to have a methodical approach. It came across that he sticks to his game plan and what works for him without being easily distracted by nonsense. He also speaks spanish and english equally well which is a huge plus. He appears to be the real deal on and off the field. He also came across as gracious to the reporters versus acting stuck up and making faces. The other thing I noticed at the press conferences is that the Yankees' media guy Jason Grillo seems pretty good at his job. He is good at knowing when to keep his mouth shut and knowing when to chime in, the NY media isn't easy to handle and he does well!
