NEW: YouTube Community Guidelines System

KZbin’s Community Guidelines outline what type of content is and isn’t allowed on KZbin. Starting today, creators will have the option of taking a specialized training course when they receive a Community Guidelines warning. Completion of the course will remove the warning from a creator’s channel - so long as they don’t violate the same policy for 90 days. And, while creators were previously given one warning throughout the lifetime of their channel, they’ll now get individual warnings depending on the specific policy they violate if they take the trainings. This means more opportunities to learn why their content may have crossed the line, and the ability to take multiple learning courses at the same time. We believe this update will help the vast majority of creators produce content that complies with our policies, and help keep KZbin a safe and responsible platform for everyone.

If you have an old warning you’ll see the training by clicking in the Channel dashboard active warning card. Anyone who gets a warning starting today and is part of the gradual rollout will get an email and a notification in Studio. *Q: Can you appeal a strike?* A: Yes, you can appeal a strike and/or a warning! If it is, then can the channel owner make another one to recover its audience?* A: We remove channels if they receive 3 strikes in 90 days. Unfortunately, this improvement looks purely cosmetic and not really useful. It would be much more effective for training content makers and avoiding restrictions in the future to have the KZbin team bother to explain exactly what the violation is in each case. Where exactly was it commited by the author of the content? Now the practice is as follows: the author receives a notification of a violation with a restriction on the video or even the entire channel, but when contacting support or after the appeal is denied, no explanations are received. The author can only guess where exactly he committed the violation and doubt whether there was a violation in reality: in the title of the video, in the description, in the preview picture, or in some particular fragment of the video. The appeal is now being rejected by the KZbin team without a clear explanation of specific reasons and without the possibility of making corrections to the video. I doubt that passing the announced training will solve the problem of communication between partners, that is, content authors, and KZbin support. The problem I described devalues the very concepts of "partner" and "support". At least partners have the right to receive details, but in fact they does not receive proper feedback and respect from KZbin team.

I just got a warning today, it was about a video I made in 2017 and I appealed that it did not violate anything and was rejected immediately. How can we even trust this system if most of the appeal is automated by bots. Plus people abuse this system knowing that the appeal will just be rejected so they try to community guideline strike anyone who they don't see fit.

What concerns me is, at least when it comes to monetization, KZbin considers mass flags as "within 90 days". Even if the videos were uploaded years ago. A few weeks ago I got hit by a wave of age restrictions and suddenly my monetization standing went from good to bad because "3 videos in the last 90 days got demonitized" even though the vids were uploaded years ago.

Have you been witness to someone being reported and that reported person was given a warning without having been investigated? if that is so, someone may have either accidentally reported them (like amazon I've noticed) or reported them regardless if it was wrongful or not.. and the person having been reported gets a warning or gets kicked off (not sure either or) even if what their comment wasn't wrong or without having the opportunity to make it right.. this definitely is an issue with Amazon but is it also with KZbin? Or do you mean the negative comments need be investigated so they are taken down and if that negative commenter continues with the mean comments, needs be kicked off?

One of the many problems with this is that the appeal system only works if appeals are assessed by human beings with functioning brains. Currently KZbin does not do this. As a result 99.99% of appeals are declined though an automated process.

So, I just got a warning for a cellphone video of a politician being an idiot. It's a public video. It's posted all over X, Facebook, and other places. Possibly on other accounts on YT. All they tell me is "I violated a community guideline" but they don't tell me WHAT community guideline I violated. How do you appeal something when they don't clearly spell out what you did wrong? THAT would make more sense than "Training for community guidelines" that may still leave you guessing what you did wrong.

I love these option. The only problem is we received a strike 6 months ago and this month we were instantly removed from the partner program without a chance to make it right. We never received a second strike and really no chance to correct or learn from what we did wrong. You're not alone. Same story. Four times in the last couple of months. Just saved personal playlists. Family doesn't use their required viewer subscriptions to upload content like a "channel"... and the videos saved in those folders were approved content from other providers. They are now punishing ordinary viewers and not the actual videos or content providers they claim are in violation!

Quick tip: the only way to avoid getting your Playlist deleted is to make sure they are on *fully private* and only viewable to you, otherwise they are screened by yt's "gulagorithms"👍

I had a playlist of meme videos I had saved on my account from years ago, and I randomly got an email that it violated a community guideline and they removed it. My private playlist. So not only are they taking forever to “crack down on things” their form of private means that they can still go in and stalk every last thing you do or save and you get in trouble for something that someone else posted. I think the person that uploaded what they don’t like should get in trouble and have the videos removed and I should of been told that content from that playlist got removed due to the uploaded videos going against community guidelines. Making a PRIVATE playlist for MYSELF that’s set so “NO ONE ELSE” can view it, that is just MEMES shouldn’t be that big of a deal.

Punishing the average viewer for some non-existent violation instead of the content or creator they claim has broken some community guideline??? Why are advertisers allowed to break the guidelines when videos that do the same things are not advertiser friendly? There is currently an ad running on every video that says "raped and killed" uncensored within the first 5 seconds of the advertisement, in reference to a little girl brutalized by an illegal immigrant. This platform is a master of hypocrisy... The pacification of language is part of what is throwing our society into decline. I'm not fragile enough to be offended by these words, or spiral into depression when I hear them, however I will not stand for hypocrisy when it means that big corps take money away from the little guy. "Rules for the, not for me" I suppose... The people who run this platform are morally bankrupt, but it seems their bank account doesn't tally morals, only dollars and cents. We need to hold these people accountable. If this isn't the case, make a statement saying that creators can stop self-censoring words and concepts that are an unfortunate part of reality, but part of reality nonetheless.

There should be other options to correct the warning and the warning should be clearly explained. Options like, muting a section of video that is not within the guidelines perimeters similar to muting music that is challenged by copywrite, even though it is public domain in the USA. Changing hashtags, sometimes is needed to remove a warning and should be addressed in the warning. By giving the creator more options, shows us that KZbin is willing to work with us. I think the training is great to a certain extent. But as rules change, the goal posts are moved. We should have more freedom of expression as long as it falls within our Country of Origins laws. Just a few ideas that I thought about when I received a recent warning on a video, that video was removed without any explanation. I appealed on that video and won that appeal, and I am grateful for that. I thank KZbin for releasing my video, but still have no clue as to why the video was flagged in the first place.

I am having issues too with possible reports of individuals who simply don't want me to have my channel. I've click the necessary restrictions for adults over 18, and gave credit to music being played in my exercise, videos. I'm iffy on this. It's partly nice because now tools exist that walk you through the guidelines, gives you an extra warning, etc., However, being on KZbin is like being a tax prepper - the rules change so often its a full-time job to catch up. I am so thankful for this change. There are a lot of new rules and sometimes we don't know until it's too late. A lot of channels were getting strikes or getting demonetized which was a bit harsh considering the revenue these KZbinrs generate for this site. I think these guidelines and violations are strictly biased and based on favoritism. I just had a video of mine that was removed because it apparently violated the community guidelines. It was a game I was playing where the character said something and they called it hate speech. If that's the case then why was my video the only one that was removed?????? There are many bigger youtubers than me that played the same game and didn't get their video removed. I felt that was unfair so I tried to appeal it and it got rejected. What's worse is I'm not even monetized yet but the main issue is that idk why my video got deleted and others didn't and we played the exact same game. The character said something like he hates women but I clearly don't feel that way.

I think there should be a limit as to how long a video can be on KZbin before it gets grandfathered in or at least it getting removed for community guidelines violations resulting in penalties to KZbinrs. Example: I had a video removed on my channel 7 months after it was released, and it wasn't even an important release. It was me testing my streaming settings and my friends were just messing around in VC. While I did the mistake and accept that, I do believe KZbin should be held accountable for a system that can attack a channel at practically any time. But, I literally forgot the test stream existed, which takes me to the next point: Like the video says, most creators don't intend to break guidelines, but a lot of larger or long-term creators have too many videos to ensure that they're all compliant with whatever updates to KZbin's guidelines have. For the pay that they get, it is an unreasonable task to give them. This blurs the line between "unintentionally breaking a guideline by actual accident" and "I wasn't able to sanity check all my videos every KZbin update" and conflates the two into one. So, at the very least there should be a maximum amount of time when any strike has actual consequences. The video can still get removed, but creators shouldn't be paranoid over waking up one day and whoops, somehow your creation style literally violated one of their guidelines and over 3 videos were flagged at the same time. I've seen this happen to a KZbinr called MagnatesMedia, who almost got banned by accident simply because a corporation decided to attack his channel by claiming public domain works they both used as corporation's property. In a system like the one I proposed, there would be less videos to take down reasonably in order to harm another KZbinr, and would at least make it more reasonable since not everyone has the time to sift through hundreds of 10-minute videos to make sure they're all compliant in order to make sure they can't get struck down.

A need improvement would be related to the "3 strike copyright" system. As it stands now, one single company/legal entity could arbitrarily shut down your entire channel in 5 minutes by targeting multiple videos at once. For example, if you have a 5 part series that is infringing on one copyright (accidentally), you could get FIVE STRIKES at once. Goodbye KZbin account. In this scenario, a more fair, realistic way to handle this would be to issue the strike for infringement ONCE and then remove the other 4 videos. Of course, after acknowledging the strike, if you continue to break the rules, that same company/legal entity should be able to issue a 2nd and 3rd strike.. but you should not let companies be able to issue multiple, sweeping strikes all in the matter of 5 minutes or 1-2 days.

And, while creators were previously given one warning throughout the lifetime of their channel, they’ll now get individual warnings depending on the specific policy they violate if they take the trainings. This means more opportunities to learn why their content may have crossed the line, and the ability to take multiple learning courses at the same time. This feature will be available to all creators in a few weeks and will also apply to channels who had a warning applied BEFORE this update. The training option's a great idea, but I still think permanent deletion of a channel for three strikes is problematic. I've seen videos by creators who lost their channels after getting copyright bombed by companies (usually Japanese anime). Channels might be operating under what they believe to be fair use or for commentary reasons, the company discovers their channel and puts in a blanket infringement claim. In some cases, that's been for dozens of videos in one go. That resulted in multiple strikes and the deletion of their channel. How does this new system protect against that? Especially if the creator is locked out of their channel and can't respond before it hits three strikes. There should be a fair review process of the strikes by a human being before you completely erase a channel. Many channels represent years of work by creators, it seems only fair.

Yeah, but the example you name is not part of the same system. Copyright infringements is a separate strike system, and updates to the community guideline's strike system does not apply to the copyright infringement strike guidelines. I do agree that, in your example, it *should* count as 1 strike, and not as 12+ strikes, and I also agree that there should be a review process before channel deletion, but that's a separate system. (Also, considering the sheer volume of content posted to youtube each minute, as much as I would like it to be actually human reviewed, how many people will actually want to be the reviewer, and how many channels can they handle per day?)

​@@Nathan_Ninowell, human review would only be necessary for channel that the system detect to be deleted permanently. The system will inform KZbin, and KZbin will assign that particular channel to a human reviewer who will review the channel for any potential deletion or even send notifications if necessary

​@@Nathan_NinoAh right, thanks for clarifying. Makes sense. I think that's just the real main thing creators worry about is the three-strikes-and-you're-out with no review or appeal. You hear a lot of horror stories about that and it's the speed at which it happens. Maybe even if you had a warning that it would be deleted in however many days, so people had time to back up the videos they wanted to keep. So, if it's a different system then this one's fine. Training is a good idea, directing people to the specifics of the issue. I think that was another complaint people often had was lack of clarity on exactly why they got the strike. This solves that. It would also be nice if the system indicated whether it was the entire video or highlighted the section in the video timeline so people can more easily trim it out when possible.

@@writerinrwanda Yeah. I definitely agree on the fact that the strike system can be abused, and while I believe that a better system must exist, I don't know what that system would be like. As you said, it is a step in the right direction.

Infringement is different but I agree this needs to be resolved too. I had a channel that had a silver play button, 40 million long format video views, almost 200K subs, 500 videos that I had painstakingly worked on for 3 years and it was simply deleted one night. I had a strike that didn't fit the purposed crime and then it was just gone. Answer "you are dedicated to a community guideline violation" i was never told what that violation was. We spent over $100K with attorneys trying to get YT to respond but to no avail. The current system is not here to help creators, it is completely flawed and empowers trolls and haters to attack online creators. Since the bot system fails to understand the content, the bot favors the troll and doubles down. It is an impossible system to learn from and to feel confident making content with. Making content is my FT job, I have large channels on every platform and this is where I see the most severe weaponization. YT is the best place for a creator who wants to survive off of their creations but I'm hopeful soon there will be an alternative because the abuse that I have experienced at the hands of this system has been devastating for me, and it shouldnt be like this.

This is good stuff. I got a warning for breaking a rule that I didn't intend to break. However, I removed the content before this update, and I cannot take the training to resolve it. I feel like there should be a link to the training embedded in the channel dashboard notification so that in the case that someone deletes the video, they are still able to resolve the warning.

Maybe this is why I'm not able to find this so called training course for my warning I've got. Got hit for something back in 2020 and no way that I can find to remove the warning. I've no idea what it was about as they never tell you. I make nature videos so maybe it was a fish with no clothes?

Mike got taken down because I restricted community guidelines but they didn’t even tell me why they just took it down😢 I emailed them and then I got the email back saying that KZbin is not a provided email😅
