I’ve heard that if you use the same thumbnail 3 times you’ll get inaccurate results. You’d think you’d get 33.3, 33.3, and 33.3, or at least somewhere close to that, but people are getting vastly different numbers. Try it and see.

But no one should be uploading 3 identical thumbnails. When it comes to the video that Channel Makers put out yesterday is that their methodology is flawed. They started from a false assumption (that 3 identical thumbnails should give a roughly even split), but they don't take into account how impressions are applied by KZbin. I plan on addressing this in some fashion very soon.

@KZbinExpertNotFound because you have the same thumbnail, doesn’t mean that everyone responds the same way to a thumbnail (number of clicks), then subsequently the similar amount of time watched on the video. You’re assuming that every person will respond the same way to the same thumbnail. It’s doesn’t account for individual tastes and viewing behaviors.

@KZbinExpertNotFound I disagree. We are not all robots. Whilst people can be in the same pool for having similar interests based on their watch history, The number of times they see the thumbnail in their feed (impressions) before they click is going to depend on multiple personal factors (time to watch, other videos in their feed getting priority, etc.). How long they watch the video will depend on their general viewing habits, how they personally enjoyed the video, etc. Same interests does not equal same viewer response. We are all unique people.

If you're tracking stats on videos, make sure you're checking stats at the same timeframes on each video - so you might want to grab stats at 48 hours from publication, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, etc. Whatever you decide, but try to be consistent. As for stats, keep in mind that KZbin track a lot of that for you, but thing about which stats you find useful. Some would say track CTR over time, Average View Duration, etc. You could go deeper and map those by traffic source over time.

It helps you understand what thumbnails perform better than others, so you can "hopefully" use better performing thumbnails more often - which can lead to more views.

Thanks Doug, finally got mine a week ago I hardly noticed it appeared just noticed the menu was longer than usual 😊note that you do not see the thumbnail & compare until you add your first thumbnail then it appears allowing you to add 2 more thumbnails for new videos.

I've had 3 tests completed now. Neither had a winner. But even weirder, two of them didn't even give a watch share percentage.

@DougHewsonYT well even the one that gave numbers had that. And the numbers made sense. The others just didn't give any numbers at all. I'll probably run another test later if it starts taking off again..
