I'm so glad you reviewed this! I actually really didn't much like the harsh peppery notes in the original Black Opium, but I fell in love with Over Red when I smelled it at Sephora. I couldn't stop thinking about it for two days and had to go back to buy it - for my tastes, the softer, vanilla-forward base and juicy cherry accord are exactly what the original needed. I'm pretty obsessed with it, it reminds me of those chocolates with cherry liqeur inside! And the bottle is genuinely so lovely as well! I wish I'd had your code when I bought it, haha, I got it for full retail price... Interestingly enough, my neither my friend nor I could smell the coffee at all! And I got a compliment on it from someone I walked past 7 whole hours after putting on a single spritz!

I smelt basically all of the fragrances in house of Fraser about 6 months ago for myself (male) and smelt some perfumes and as soon as I smelt this it immediately became my favourite scent for a woman… I pictured a bit of a badass/edgy woman wearing it maybe with a black leather jacket and it was honestly the nicest perfume I’ve ever smelt! Unsure how good it is to a woman’s nose but to a man, this is VERY sexy!

I was excited to hear what you thought about this! my first impression was that I actually noticed the cherry top note quite a lot when I tested it at Sephora. I tried it again another day and it was definitely taken over by the original coffee and vanilla DNA but I think I’m noticing the cherry more than you did and it’s been making me really want to get it because I’m loving how it’s balanced. I think it is my favorite Black Opium release so far 🖤 I also own hypnotic poison so I see what you mean by this one is like a modern version of that

I really liked the deep coffee and the vanilla note of this perfume and to bring out more of the cherry I tried layering it with la nuit trésor intense which has sour cherry note🍒and I love it❤

I got a sample kf this a few days ago (and also tried it out in store). The tester in store was stronger than the sample with more of a cherry punch so I think the cherry will get stronger as the bottle ages. In terms of comparisons, this one is closest to Le Parfum in my opinion, with that added cherry top note. The cherry does fade quickly, but it moves to the background and doesn't completely disappear. Floral shock is the most wearble of the Black Opium family with Over Red coming in second. I love Le Parfum but it does seem a bit heavy for the office. Good for night time though!

I tried this with my husband and daughter, they hated it. The opening was a little too medicinal cough syrup cherry for them. Once the top notes settled, I enjoyed it, but the cherry wasn't the type of cherry i enjoy in perfume. My 2 favorite black opiums are le parfum and illicit green

I’m pairing it with the new Sweetheart Cherry (cherry & pistachio) from Bath & Body and it really helps the cherry note. I think Black Cherry Merlot from Bath & Body would do the same, as well.

Very positive and delicious review and it makes me want to try BOOR ) However, I'm surprised to hear that BO is a strong scent. It was always very mild sweet scent to my nose. Sometimes I even hardly smell it and that's why I find this scent very easy to apply. I also very often hear that La Vie Est Belle is sickenly sweet, but to my nose it is so sharp on the patchuli that I can't smell any sweetness or praline at all and can't wear it because of the harshness. I can see that everyone's nose is so different and everyone's perception of the scents is so personal.

The bottle is gorgeous and so is your top by the way🤗 I was hoping more syrupy cherry that stayed on longer, solved it by topping it with more cherry perfume. ALT CHERRY SMASH, lasts longer than Tom Ford Lost cherry. I have the LE PERFUM and I'm so in love with that one, I layer everything flowery, makes a delicious scent.

I bought this, loved the IDEA of it but it had NO projection-no sillage. It was non-existent after 30 minutes. I had to continually spray it on. The smell was great-for only a few minutes-it just didn’t last and left me very frustrated. I returned it to Macys very disappointed. I LOVE cherry and vanilla. If there is one out there that packs a bang and lasts that is true cherry/vanilla let me know;)

I managed to test this yesterday unfortunately they didn’t have it to buy but I’ve ordered it today I’m obsessed lol my favourite black opium was Blanche nuit, I also love Dior poison girl, I find poison the original too heavy on the marzipan, love Tom ford lost cherry but for the price it should be lasting all day it didn’t! I had the Zara dupe which was just as good but that’s been discontinued 😩 Could you recommend something to replace it please? X

I wanted to see your review to confirm what I’ve been commenting which is it sadly doesn’t have the Cherry note I was so looking forward to 😢. I ended up returning my bottle, as the original will work just fine. And I’ve been layering a true cherry 🍒scent over it, on occasion. This release was a bit of a disappointment at least to me 🤷🏽‍♀️

the "Red" doesn't represent that it has cherry in it. it actualy means that it is a "sweeter flanker" from the original. just like a blue fragrance represents something fresh and oceanic. green = earthy, spicy, woodsy white = clean, smooth, soapy while "black'' often means that a scent has notes that come off as more dark, serious, sophisticated, mature, elegant and daring. you get the idea. i'm a man and i bought this for my mom, so i know the smell, and from my perspective, i think i might actually buy it for myself and maybe perhaps my girlfriend too. so what i personaly notice from this scent is that this 'black' and 'red' together represent a darker seriousess that fades into a more playfull/sexy sweetness. and it works out very well, as a man i would like a scent that no other man has or wears. and i found this scent to be quite appealing and unisex smelling. for a female labeled fragrance, it has nothing floral or anything like that. so i think i can pull it off as a guy, lol. Great review. i don't pick up any cherry either. but if that ingredient was missing. you probably would notice a difference in the smell overal. but who knows? thats how it goes sometimes. 🖤❤

I absolutely love this stuff, it's dark and seductive and sensual. It reminds me of something maybe one of Tom Ford's.....or penhaligon's halfeti leather (which I love). I always hated the original BO because after a few minutes smelling it it's too much and it makes me nauseous. But over red... I LOVE! It tool the good parts of the og and left out all the nauseating mess. For the people who say it doesn't smell like cherry through it's development ... That not true. It smells like cherry all way but it's understandable to think that if you expect to smell fresh cherries, or juicy cherries. The perfume is not like that. It smells like dark chocolates filled with cherry liqueur. It's still cherry but not the fruity type
