Yes, fortune cookies are very edible and people eat them all the time. They're almond cookies, to be specific.
@KevlarX211 ай бұрын
I like them, my family usually give theirs to me.
@coleensakamoto684411 ай бұрын
At Chinese restaurants they usually serve 2 kinds of cookies. Almond cookies & fortune cookies. The almond cookie is round with an almond sliver gentley pressed into it's center. The fortune cookie is NOT an almond cookie. It is thin, folded in half once (after a small piece of paper with a fortune typed on it is placed inside of it) then bent in the opposite direction. I think I am safe in saying all Chinese food restaurants give them out, one to a customer, and delivered to the table along with the bill.
@mokumboi1911 ай бұрын
@coleensakamoto6844 Back home, at my cheap Chinese family spot, the ingredients were printed on the wrapper. It said almond extract oil and they tasted distinctly of almonds. Admittedly, I've lived abroad for 20 years, so maybe they're different now. Also, I am not familiar with these almond sliver cookies. Not that I recall anyway.

I live in San Francisco. There's an "authentic" version of every known Chinese cuisine somewhere in the Bay Area if not in the city itself, including outposts of some Hong Kong places. But I still go to Panda Express. Call it a guilty pleasure. It doesn't have to be authentic to be enjoyable. Most of their stuff is remarkably sweet, unlike "authentic" Chinese food. I have a sweet tooth. Works for me.
@RJKookie11 ай бұрын
I find it ironic that at the time when the Cherng family opened their small family-run restaurant in Pasadena, serving a mostly non-Asian clientele, they had to lure customers with freebies and such - but in order to survive the founders ended up adapting and creating their own genre of fast-food - opening the first Panda Express at the Glendale Galleria food court. They basically adapted Chinese food to an American audience who were primarily shopping inside a mall. I also have a sweet tooth and love Panda Express, but I also love hitting up the variety of asian cuisines in SGV and Alhambra and Monterey Park. Too many food snobs or Panda Haters don’t realize the incredible backstory of this iconic franchise. Panda Express food is enjoyable (my location and their cooks are consistently good) and totally convenient - that’s what keeps me coming back for more.

@@demonic7610 Yawn. This attitude is so 5 years ago and boring. You don't have to visit San Francisco to experience property crime and the consequences of homelessness. The Wall Street Journal, which has bashed San Francisco for years now, recently ran an article under the headline "Midsize Cities Struggle With Snowballing Homelessness". The article goes on to say, "Midsize cities like Grand Rapids are testing out new ways to handle unhoused populations that have surged since the pandemic, as a record spike in the nation’s homelessness numbers has grown far beyond expensive coastal areas with entrenched homelessness problems. The city’s efforts-which have been particularly wide-ranging-demonstrate the difficulties communities face trying to make a dent in reducing homelessness. The number of homeless people counted in Grand Rapids increased more quickly than the nation as a whole this year . . . ." By contrast, the number of people living on San Francisco's streets has been fairly stable at around 8000 for a number of years and they are concentrated mostly in the Tenderloin and Mission districts (thanks to the city's putting nearly all the services--soup kitchens,. shelters, drug rehab programs--for them in these neighborhoods). The Tenderloin has some great Indian food and the Mission is San Francisco's Hispanic neighborhood so if you want those foods, you may have to see a few tents (the feces on the sidewalk thing is vastly hyped) and people smoking something out of tinfoil. Guard your eyes, take an Uber to your restaurant there (don't drive your own car--smash and grabs are real) and don't worry about violent crime--the city is still one of the safest in that regard. Regarding the open drug use, also real, the Federal task force and the new DA are cracking down as hard as they can on the Central American (thanks Biden) drug gangs selling most of the fentanyl and ketamine and even the local judges are now rejecting plea deals that don't involve jail time ("sanctuary city" advocates are screaming).

I’m laughing so hard right now!! Fortune cookies are delicious with a hint of coconut. Very American treat not Chinese. Interesting history worth looking up. Most are manufactured in New York and in March 2005, 110 lottery players had the same numbers. Normally it’s only three to five players. The FBI investigated and discovered the Fortune Cookie manufacturer had hand picked the numbers. Because of this the lottery numbers on the back are now machine picked and variable each day.

Panda Express is good but way overpriced for the small amount of food you get. I usually go to the mom and pop Chinese fast-food restaurants. They're cheaper and the portions are huge!

I love PE as a fast food Chinese restaurant...love their chow mein when it is not too greasy/oily. I would prefer a local, authentic Chinese restaurant or Thai, but PE is definitely good for unhealthy, fast Chinese food...if you can find one with good service. When I was a kid, there was a Parisian Bread bakery and outlet in San Jose (California) on 7th Street and they sold BAGS of imperfect fortune cookies - most of them were just round, flat cookies that missed the machine or broken halves...still delicious and always a treat.🥠🥖🥐

Panda express, I would be surprised if it was good, American style Chinese food is mostly hit or miss. Local restaurants ( not a franchise ) usually are the better choice, When it comes to chinese food in the U.S. , In my opinion.

Honey walnut shrimp and (of course) orange chicken are my go-tos at Panda Express. The honey walnut shrimp is simply... Divine.

Panda Express is good as long as you’re not expecting authenticity

I grew up in Ogden Utah. It was once named Juntion City. Any town that was a train town in the states during the building of the railroad was lucky enough to have wonderful, authentic Chinese food. It lasted for a few decades. After some time. The grand children and their children went on to school and studied other subjects. Not many original Chinese restaurants in the train towns anymore. I sure do miss the ones in Ogden Utah though.

We don’t get Panda Express very often since the closest one is over an hour away. My favorites are the Bejing Beef and Sweet Fire Chicken. They sell a Panda Express sweet chili sauce at the grocery stores now that is marvelous. It’s not the same as the sauce in the packets. I love it.
