New Zealand Fly Fishing - Episode 1

Tuva and myself travel to New Zealand after a 6 months fishing adventure that has taken us to some of the best fishing destinations in the world. This is a series of films where we film and edit while traveling, and try to upload a video at least every week. In episode 1 we get hold on a car and start our journey to explore New Zealand. Hi, I fished the South Island of New Zealand for eleven months and covered all the rivers, lakes and sea shores that I could get to and camped wild. I had to stop at only three camping grounds to make repairs to my camper and to clean up. My best buy was a book called “John Kent's South Island Trout Fishing Guide”. This is a comprehensive guide to the South Island's incomparable trout fishing waters. More than 400 rivers and 150 lakes are described, along with their location, access, fishing season and appropriate techniques and flies. I talked to every person I met on the waters to get information and help. I would also go to a farm house that had access to a river and ask permission to go on to their property. I would often get permission to actually park my camper on the river bank as the people were very kind and helpful. This was many years ago and the kindness I was shown then may not be the same today as the “Freedom Campers” of today have spoiled it for the rest of us anglers. Check out the book as it’s the best guide book on fishing that I have ever used in fifty years of fishing these island paradise. Cheers mate. Harera

I don’t really know what people say, but they for sure are unique and really good fishing rods. Definitely worth checking out! Pretty sure you can order it on the web page of arctic silver fly fishing. New handles coming soon tho, so the old ones might be on some sort of sale. The new ones will be ready for next season on New Zealand I think! You are welcome! Thanks for the feedback

@rustiefly Thanks for feedback. Their website has very little stock at the moment, which explains pending launch of new handle I guess. I end a day of fishing with painful elbow joints for some reason (probably old age). Hoping this handle may help. Cheers again 👍

Yeah! Loooots of lots of lots of rivers on New Zealand tho. And some places they just don’t grow that large. In Norway we have many waters where the trout never grow more than 2 pounds. And it’s more wild and natural than this

I am enjoying your videos and the effort you putting into showing while your still on holiday- the long lens is great. I was impressed with your casting over the long grass- especially Tuva. Thats not easy when the fish is moving and your waiting for the right moment.

The New Zealand trout eat dry flies in the most crazy of winds it seems like. You just make 100 casts and hope one lands at the right spot haha

What's on the grip of your rods?

It’s Arctic silver fly fishing rods. They are innovative making the rod bend inside the handle. Quite cool when fighting fish, and a smooth casting experience. I can recommend to check out their web page
