As you were filming the wayward mouse while waiting on the great penguin event, it brought back memories of a trip to Niagara Falls I took with my family. As we where walking across the bridge I noticed a raccoon in broad daylight looking for food on the side of the river. As we looked and took pictures a sizable crowd of people surrounded us to see the raccoon. One of the seven wonders of the world was right before us and a plain every day raccoon was capturing everyone's attention!

Your (Teeem) story made me laugh. There is a book sold here and in Australia called, LE'S TORK STRINE and one funny anecdote I remember, concerned a famous author book signing in Sydney, (or Seedney if you prefer) and a customer standing in line when asked her name said EMMA CHISIT. The author dutifully wrote in the flyleaf of the book, TO MY GOOD FRIEND EMMA CHISIT,. The woman looked quite put out and slowly and in a loud voice said, NO, I- SAID- HOW- MUCH- IS- IT?

So glad you got to Timaru for penguin o'clock. Hope you weren't too hungry and that the cat didn't 'help' you with dinner. I like that you didn't buy wine when had to pay for the tasting! Exactly how I feel. I love Gibbston's Blanc de Pinot Noir - a dark rose. We bought some in Arrowtown to take home but it had 'evaporated' before we left Central Otago🤣. I'm sorry the honeymoon is nearly over and hoping you have some more adventures to keep your fans entertained over your summer, our winter.

Ha! Just to confuse the issue, in Maori i's are pronounced more like 'ee' so your first pronunciation of 'Tim' is, strictly speaking, actually more correct for 'Timaru', though almost no-one actually says it like that :)
@ScenicSouthNZ4 жыл бұрын
I was also going to say if you said "Teemaru" it would be the correct pronunciation in Maori

Thank you for helping me out! I wish I would have known all this BEFORE hahah oh well

So, you and "Teem" made a good team, eh? I am sure that most folks there were calling you "Jin-efer," anyway. Kiwis are known for the prominent vowel shift in their accents, particularly short "e" to short "i" so the word "tent" sounds like "tint" to us. And the long "o" sound in Australia has become something like a tripthong, with three distinct components. Kind of cool to hear how the same language has evolved differently over time.

It’s very interesting how we all had different accents!! Thankfully Tim “Team” was a great sport. 😂

Good old Timaru I grew up there until I was 17 but still love the place, love the countryside around it with those awesome rolling hills & views of the mountains. The penguins are very cute, really delighted for you that you got to see quite a few, hopefully it made the late meal worth the wait lol. 🙂

That's how you can tell the difference between a NZ and Australian accent, in words like Tim, Win etc. NZers say it kinda like Americans do, but Australians elongate the i so it sounds like Tiiim or 'Teem'. They also pronounce the 'e' differently to NZers as well. Aside from that, they're very similar. When Australians say 'six', to NZers it sounds like they're say 'sex'. It can cause a bit of funny confusion lol
