Kia ora Shona, one of the beautiful things about being Maori (or Pacific Islanders) is that we know the spirit of a person (who has left this life) has no bounds, and you can call on them regardless of where you may be.... as for Pakeha... If you feel it, dig it! your spirit ends up with the same understanding as any person that walks this Earth As for the video: Too much Rawiri Wharemate :P Kia Kaha E hoa

Oi no disrespect meant...I was havin a laugh...I have great respect for the Maori. I even been adopted by a family back home in WA...although I will admit I do have a problem with them pakehas that come here, the ones that hold onto Maori culture like its their own...it isnt..white NZ ers are mostly the same convict blood that took Australia from the aboriginies here. Anywho...GREAT VIDEO..SHOULD POST MORE HEY

This haka was originally performed as a protest against Ta Apirana Ngata, who introduced alcohol prohibition in the East Coast so that money wasted on beer at the pubs would instead go towards paying back the mortgages on dairy farms he helped establish. He would often lead this haka, despite it being an attack on him, so I guess he gradually 'owned' this haka over time. As far as I'm aware, the composer of the 'Poropeihana' section is unknown. The other sections are borrowed from other haka.
